On it's merits as simply music it is, good nothing to write home about but still good. It's what you expect from Beck, who is certainly not devoid of talent. In the world of Alternative music, however, it's nothing groundbreaking and the only reason he gets so much attention is that his name is Beck and is still riding the success of "Loser" his first and only groundbreaking track. His involvement with the cult of Scientology doesn't do him any favors either and I feel his music would be much better without their influence. Expand

  1. As musically dazzling as Midnite Vultures often is, the one criticism that can be still levelled at Beck is that his songs remain strangely soulless, failing to ever really grip the emotions or stir the soul.
  2. He's given us the year's most relentless gas--laughing or otherwise--of a party album.
  3. It's pretty much just a silly, goofy, fun record.
