It’s an accomplished if somewhat safe set of songs; a JoJo on the cusp of finding her range.

While there are flashes of brilliance--the pulsating Alessia Cara duet I Can Only; the bolshy strut of Fab-- too many songs feel dated or unable to properly showcase JoJo’s raw vocal (opener Music is trampled under the emotional weight).

After almost 10 years in limbo because of legal problems with her label that damaged her career hugely, she managed to come back with such a personal album that talks about depression ("Clovers"), being in love ("Good Thing"), out of love ("Honest"), self confidence ("I Am") and lots of encouraging messages ("F*** Apologies", "I Am", "High Heels"). Her album showcases her experience as a recording artist and songwriter. The album opener is "Music": a emotional ballad that talks about her unconditional love for music and the loss of her father. Both standard and deluxe versions of the album end with encouraging tracks, "I Am" and "Rise Up". Full Review »
