Jun 14, 2024Dessner's patronage will hopefully propel her to the Radio 2 attention such consistently insistent, early evening festival potential singalongs deserve. [Jul 2024, p.104]

May 24, 2024Producer Aaron Dessner happened upon Atwell’s work and volunteered his services; Big Thief’s James Krivchenia, Beirut’s Ben Lanz and Sufjan Stevens collaborator James McAlister appear on additional instruments, an overlay of middlebrow US indie lacquer that – remarkably – does not overshadow Atwell’s individuality.

May 24, 2024On a surface level, the melancholy strum of a slow acoustic guitar can come across as another translator for yet more sad songs, yet Atwell tenderly works on herself beneath its topline, where more complexities also lie, refusing to change for the acceptance of others on tracks such as the steadily-paced "Fan Favourite", even taking on crunchy guitars in "Release Myself" for a change in pace.

May 24, 2024Some may say Atwell could have opened up further, but there’s no doubt this is an album of depth which deserves repeat listens and which will be loved by her fans as well as enjoyed by newcomers.

UncutMay 24, 2024Producer Aaron Dessner’s quick working pace and embrace of imperfection have helped deliver a rawer set of songs written when Atwell was weaning herself off antidepressants and feared feeling’s return. [Jun 2024, p.29]
