On ‘Lifetime’ she masterfully connects her eras, looping back, editing and upgrading the sound of rapture she’s cultivated through time. On ‘Lifetime’, she’s finally arrived at the sound of sweet surrender.

On Lifetime, de Casier not only manages to create a truly hypnagogic aura, but captured this elusive quality of oneiric purity and grace. It’s the sound of an existence beyond our own, prismatic and startlingly beautiful.

It's a confidently self-referential record that goes with her own flow, settling into a sensual downtempo sound as effortless as it is studied.

Lifetime, at its most novel, intimate, or adrift, proves that Erika de Casier isn’t the aura merchant that Still or Sensational may have deemed her to be. It’s a great collection of songs—music so inspired and surrendering that I’m now second-guessing whether or not Essentials remains her best effort.

If the results of Lifetime’s solo writing process are mixed, de Casier’s work behind the boards is wall-to-wall dazzling, from the extraterrestrial rave stabs that pan across the stereo field on “Seasons” to the mournful cyborg whose voice echoes her own on “December.”
