Jun 20, 2024For a band like Alcest, Les Chants de l’Aurore is an important artistic marker: well into their musical journey, Neige and Winterhalter are thriving in their musical wheelhouse. After all this time and the many copycats since Souvenirs, Alcest’s innovation still has places to go.

Jun 20, 2024Les Chants… mostly finds its own spot in Alcest's discography by being the most complete and accurate representation of what the band are all about. It's unlikely to turn naysayers into fans, but if you need an album to introduce newcomers to Alcest, this might just be the one to show them.

Jun 20, 2024Neige's constantly evolving approach to songcraft means that Alcest's music, for better or worse, will never be what it once was. While Le Chants de l'Aurore doesn't reach the same heights as some of their previous works (particularly the intricate Kodama or the aforementioned Écailles de lune), the album is still awe-inspiring.

Jun 20, 2024Unquestionably the most proggy proposition on the album, this tune [L’Enfant De La Lune] shifts through different passages like a receptacle for all the musical touches Alcest have at their disposal. As such, it’s part of a listening experience which often feels like something of a journey, and if the specific destination is ambiguous, the direction is very much into the light.
