This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

The fact that he is able to go from a track with an 80’s pop vibe into one with a r&b focus like Peaches and then roll up with a beautiful acoustic track like, Off My Face or gospel pop track like, Holy....AND have it result in a beautifully cohesive project is impressive. The one thing consistent throughout the album and that remains flawless on each track is his voice...and it is as recognizable as ever. His rich, smoky, smooth, with a touch of raspy, tone has only improved with his years. His vocal ability at this stage in his career is clearly better than it’s ever been. I love the fact that he sings from his lower register more on this project, it’s his obvious sweet spot, but his falsettos remain equally as impressive. I appreciate the way he has chosen to sing clearly personal songs but attempts to connect the listener to them in a time when our close relationships have been tried- as they’ve been all we’ve had to cling to. Though not always direct in their meaning, he finds a way to keep the penned lyrics beautiful and meaningful but still connect them to real life issues in a new world of Covid-19. His subtle nod to issues of social injustice via MLK Jr is notable. It’s almost as if he shows awareness of the fact that the youth of today have been inundated over the last year with an in your face reality of chaos and injustice and it’s almost as if he wants to make them aware of their history and draw them in to want to know more in a subtle but clever way. The MLK Interlude placed squarely in the middle of the album ends with, “You died when you refused to stand up for right, you died when you refused to stand up for truth, you died when you refused to stand up for justice.” There, Bieber’s track Die For You is found and tells the story of paying the ultimate sacrifice for love. Is it an attempt to make a connection between social injustice/world issues and our personal relationships or show us it should ALL be personal to us? That I don’t know, but I am still thinking about it today. What is clear in the album is that Bieber is still human like the rest of us and relatably still has his share of struggles. Deserve You is evidence that he still battles feeling worthy of the life he’s been given and the love of his wife which he sings beautifully about. But just as evident? Is the desire of the musician in Love You Different to be dedicated to growing and appreciating the life he is living and the love of his life. I’m inclined to agree with most in saying this is Bieber’s best album to date, and will admit, unashamedly, that it will find itself heavy in my rotation. The only thing it’s missing for me? An inspiring, adult nod to songs like Pray and Believe. With an album titled Justice and his ability of late to encourage and motivate the masses through his positive IG posts, I think it would have been the icing on the cake and reflective of the artist he’s evolving into. Regardless, Justice is a 9/10 for me. Expand

Justin definitely took his time to create this album. His song with kid laroi blew me away. Deserve you and die for you give a very 80s influence, i can hear myself listening to them as i drive around with my car. I have enjoyed listening to it more than i did with changes, overall a great album

The upshot is that Justice is one of Bieber's steadiest releases, among the easiest to play from start to finish. The only overdone aspect is the low self-esteem and unworthiness the lyrics either suggest or flatly express in almost every song.

With 16 tracks in a wide variety of styles and moods, Bieber’s centerless sixth studio album is noisy and grab-baggy in a way that once was typical for him (and other major pop acts) yet now registers as shallow and unsatisfying.

His voice has a palatable smoothness; he’s mastered push-and-pull dynamics, and he swings effortlessly from a placid chest voice to a zephyr of a falsetto. That litheness and control are on full display across Justice. Even when the songwriting is spiritless and the production rote—and it occasionally is, as on the confessional “Unstable” and the saccharine “Deserve You”—he still sings the hell out of it.
