I love the first half of the album, but she loses me after “Million Reasons”. All the songs after that aren’t that great in my opinion. I will also say that I like this album better than Artpop (although it’s a completely different sound).

Joanne is definitely different for Gaga, even if it doesn't bring anything new the table. Sounding like a mix between Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams and Lana Del Rey, Gaga taps into her inner country diva and though there is her signature oddness it doesn't push the envelope enough.

Gaga has a big rock/pop type voice that deserves a level of lyrical and melodically complexity. Tracks such as "Dancin' in Circles", which sounds No Doubt influenced, or "Come to Mama" just don't really showcase her talent.

The best way to describe it on a first listen is its a mix between her earlier stuff and her new style jazz stuff. You can tell she wants tobreak away and be a real musician and artist. Even if the tone is mixed there is still some good stuff here even if it needs more work.

Porque Lady Gaga não se reencontrou musicalmente? Porque pula de gênero em gênero buscando a "autenticidade" perdida na era "Born This Way".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Even though we can see Lady Gaga's true face, "Joanne" fails to deliver. There are 4-5 songs that are upbeat and "Gaga" style, but the rest is just a banch of boring ballads. Her vocals shine in this record (and that's why I gave 6/10 and not 4/10), but it's not enough. I like to see her evolve, but I'd like her to keep the upbeat and fun characteristics that made her famous. Expand

'Joanne' 'is a mixture of very classic pop songs, with no clear identity. '' Diamond Heart '' has a pretty good pace, '' Joanne '' (the best song in my opinion) has a lovely refrain, '' Million Reasons '' is a beautiful ballad, '' Sinner's Prayer '' is very pleasant although not very original, and there's also a surprising duet with Welch. '' Angel Down '' is a good piece, although it clearly recalls the atmosphere of Del Rey ''Video Games ''.

The LP has highlights such as a the guitar-heavy "A-YO," the late 60's influenced "Come to Mama," and the Florence Welch assisted track, "Hey Girl," but I feel that the standout track is the title track, naturally. The track ["Joanne"] is emotionally well executed and catchy; "Take my hand / Stay Joanne / Heaven's not, ready for you." without her eccentricity and eagerness to lead others along an artistic path that differentiates from other artists, gaga seems almost identityless on joanne. however, if you're a fan of country-infused pop rock, this album is really worth a listen, if not just for gaga's incredible talent as a vocalist. the songs on here are all sincere, down-to-earth and relatable pop fusions.

It’s understandable that «Joanne» finds Gaga performing authenticity, if only because it’s the strongest way to convey artistic evolution to the masses. While its modernity is expressed by mixing and matching genres or adding digital zing to familiar tropes, for all its bravura exuberance and pop slickness it is old fashioned to its core.

Admittedly, Joanne is better than I expected, with a few good songs like Joanne and Perfect Illusion, but it still leaves much to be desired. It's a mishmash of so many different styles, like soft rock, 12 bar blues, folk, western, '60s bubblegum pop, etc., and it really seems like Gaga has no idea what she's doing. There's no unifying theme or vision to this album like there was on ARTPOP and Born This Way. It's just a collection of random, halfway decent tunes, with almost none of the brilliance that Gaga is known for. Yes, a very personal album by Lady Gaga but, 'Joanne' feels a bit bland. For me this is her second worst album after 'ARTPOP'.

There is some good news though. 'Hey Girl' feat Florence Welch and 'Million Reasons' are brilliant tracks that just stand way above the rest. But I have to admit, a Florence only version of Hey Girl would be even more brilliant.

With this album Gaga decided to get away from the dance floor and the extravagant. Joanne is her most intimate and personal work. And like everything he does, it's fabulous.

Born This Way.

Resaltan: Joanne, Perfect Illusion, John Wayne, Hey Girl

'The Fame', 'The Fame Monster', 'Born This Way' and 'ARTPOP' are incredible albums because they make no apologies for being so upbeat, so loud, and so well made. Joanne isn't a bad album in comparison, it's just unbelievably boring. Mark Ronson's production is mind-numbing, most of the tracks never really go anywhere (the terrible 'Hey Girl' featuring the highly overrated vocals of Florence Welch) and many of the tracks are either undanceable or lack a proper melody. Why Lady Gaga decided to release an bar-come-country-come-rock-come-show tune album is beyond me.
It's so wet and poorly executed that you end up not really caring about the stories or the personal tracks. There are a few saving graces though, I'll say that much - her voice is amazing as always (if not a little fake on certain tracks i.e. the title track), 'John Wayne' and 'Dancing In Circles' sound like they could have been taken from the far-more-fun ARTPOP and finally, 'Angel Down' gives me faith that Gaga hasn't quite forgotten how to create dark pop.
I'll always be a Gaga fan, but this is the biggest let down since Jessie J's 'Who You Are'. Let's hope she very quickly plugs the synths back in, hires Red One, Zedd and Fernando Garibay and creates ARTPOP Part 2, like she once teased she might.

This version of Angel Down makes me long for those supposed seven other songs they worked on together.

When all is said done, all the reviews, the mixed emotions, I'm feeling lost. I am a fan of singers from Judy Henske to Leonard Cohen to Grimes. I'm not a genre-specific fan. I thought Artpop was much more cohesive than people gave it credit; it just had too many songs (similar to Born This Way). Gaga could easily be an album and a hit artist. That being said, this album just feels overproduced. This has never been a reaction I've had; The Fame was the ultimate postmodern pop album; The Fame Monster the deconstruction of the The Fame; Born This Way the Rock-Horror melodrama album; Artpop more a quasi surrealist pop album. The production matched the tone of every album. Yet for Joanne, the "authenticity" appears performed rather than genuine because of the production. This is made even more evident by the inclusion of the Work Tape. It may have even been a mistake to include the work tape because it shows evidence for Gaga's ability to actually curate an album that could hold up lyrically, musically, and politically with the album's influences and albums from this year. Sinner's Prayer, Million Reasons, and Dancin' in Circles are all songs that also would have been better served with a stripped down production. Rather than Ronson, it would have been interesting to hear Gaga work with someone like Mark Howard and RedOne.

The album is good in the beginning, where we have some interesting songs and nice ballads like John Wayne... but it gets tiring and weary when you still have half album to listen to, its lazy and poor production makes everything worse. In the end you understand the album expresses what Gaga’s career is: dead and boring.

It is with great pain for me to say that Joanne is not the record that will change me like The Fame Monster or Born This Way. Any shred of the avant-gaga flair is gone. The personal is no longer the performance and the external is no longer the internal (thank you NYT). Perhaps she is going back to Red and Blue while I am going forward on to Vulnicura. Any shred of the avant-gaga flair is gone. The personal is no longer the performance and the external is no longer the internal (thank you NYT). Perhaps she is going back to Red and Blue while I am going forward on to Vulnicura. Either way even the most avid fans of this record would not disagree she has gone backwards to her pre-gaga sound. The first half plays with some interesting ideas but with these glittering ideas comes awkwardly direct lyrics. In the second half of Joanne country bumpkin Gaga comes out to say, "Hey look what I can do,' and not a single fan was gained on that day (of course only time will tell to prove me right or wrong). Trolling aside Lady Gaga on the bonus tracks decides that pinot grigio is the correct wine to connect with her fellow woman-kind even though riesling is obviously better. There is a intense depression lying underneath the record expressed through Gaga's inability to pronounce the english language. This depression is also reminiscent of my now dead childhood.
The album clumsily starts with the powerfully sung "Diamond" and lazily spoken "Heart". "Diamond Heart" pushes through with some lovely build ups and power choruses. "A-YO" plays with some great guitar playing similar to Wild Beasts with a country flair only to be driven by the viciously mundane Megan Trainor-esque "blow it in your face" and the awfully tacky clappity beat as well as steamy lyrics that leave nothing to the imagination. She left the disco stick in the trash and instead just wants you to get off on her- oh and there’s a mirror on the ceiling? "Joanne" is drenched in painful, hurtful even, honesty as well as some delightful lyrics I wish I could ask Gaga myself in the chorus, “Girl, where do you think you’re going?” "John Wayne” and “Dancing in Circles" are some of the high points of the record but goes full on lyrically country bumpkin Gaga and touch myself Gaga circa “So Happy I Could Die.” While I wasn’t pleased with Perfect Illusion originally it sounds wonderful when listening to it in the context of the album because it’s the only moment that has absolutely no country so far. The next song that actually matters is “Hey Girl” and it is tasty as all hell. Florence and Gaga is an unexpected heaven. My only complaint is the utter abuse of the title; one should not be able to begin the verse and the chorus the exact same way.
Of course it goes with out saying, I am clearly not a country fan- but I do not believe many Lady Gaga fans are. But alas Yoü and I had a subtle twang- so I suppose it wasn’t completley out of the blue. While my review is attempting at some humor I am legitimately disappointed as Lady Gaga was my original musical awakening. There will be no musical awakening ushered on by Joanne. Now, I will proceed to play the banjo, grab a cowboy hat, jump on a horse, and pretend to like this album.

Joanne is trying so hard to be something , but spends most of the time trying to figure out what that "something" is. Most of the production sounds flat, the vocals sound quite awful and the narrative does not tell a consistent story nor stick to a consistent theme.

Unfortunately, therein lies the biggest problem with Joanne: for every time that Gaga seemingly breaks free of her shackles and embraces something more “real,” she quickly scuttles back into her comfort zone and hides behind glistening production. This probably isn’t quite the sound of the real Stefani Germanotta, but if you squint hard enough there’s a semblance of a real person in amongst the pop haze.

Joanne is certainly not the all-conquering opus it was intended to be and will prove divisive, but it remains a daring and exciting record, delivered from one of modern pop’s most unique and singular voices.
