Jul 10, 2026Sooty, apparently the only non-human member of The Magic Circle, is exposed on the title track, a delightful melange of The Auteurs and Ennio Morricone, including the important observation that “practical jokes are never funny”. There’s observational ballast that’ll chime with the nostalgists. .... While if there’s a funnier song title than ‘Tommy Cooper – Chaos Magick’ released in 2026 then I’m yet to see it.

Record CollectorJul 10, 2026As ever, Haines stirs up affection and bemusement in equal delirious does, evoking a time of canted analogue curiosity in supremely evocative, immersive snapshots. [Aug 2026, p.111]

MojoJul 10, 2026Blackly comic, bordering on piss-take, it's a wild ride. [Aug 2026, p.87]

Jul 10, 2026Izzy Wizzy Let's Get Bizzy feels less like a major work from Haines than something he did for fun, and it's likely best suited for fans who already knew and enjoy his work, though it absolutely delivers on what it sets out to do, and if you grew up with mixed feelings about the images on that screen in the living room, this album's a must.

UncutJul 10, 2026Some of Haines' woolliest and most melodic music since Black Box Recorder. [Aug 2026, p.30]
