    It seems breathy, angelic, and narcoticized is the default setting for indie rock female singers these days. And we may also need to reel in that trend too. But hey, if it ain’t broke... Which it is not on It’s Alive.

    It's Alive is a debut that should appeal to both lovers of old-school surf pop and anyone who's into the modern "surf" noise-pop style, but always wanted more waves and less whine.

    La Luz (which means "the light" in Spanish) have done an excellent job reprising the nostalgic vibes of West Coast beaches by mixing them with more urban influences, and therefore achieving a steady, cohesive album.

    Throwaway fun, for sure, but throwaway all the same.

    La Luz excel when they commit to the way the songs of that era worked, rather than settling for the aura or the pleasant, used-vinyl memories of it all.
