It is always a challenge to rate such a personal album as Indigo. Do you rate according to the impact of the song? The vibe? The production quality? The vibe? The production quality? When it comes to rating albums by BTS and its members, it becomes even harder as they usually bring all of those things, but rarely in a conventional way. Indigo is an intense personal story that Kim Namjoon has chosen to tell through 10 genres and with a plethora of artists. But don’t make the mistake to think that it is not cohesive. BTS have never spoken in genre, but in stories.
What you get with Indigo is for instance a funky Still Life feat. Anderson.Paak, the combative hip hop track All Day with Epik High’s Tablo, a philosophical neo-soul song Yun with Erykah Badu and a poppy yet intense Lonely. My personal favorite is the half-drunk demo-recording of the everchanging Change pt. 2. There are so many moods and vibes on this album, but what is left behind is a recognizable tumultuous journey through one’s 20s and from my own memories of that decade, I have BEEN each of Kim Namjoon’s songs. I look forward already to having him poetically write up the next decade for us both as well.

Kim Namjoon shows his artistic genius with Indigo. Every song has its own color and Namjoon allows the listener an inside peak into his every day emotions. This album has a song for everyone and is worth a listen. Please honor his writing by taking the time to look up the translations to the songs. You wont regret listening to this album.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have been eagerly expecting this album and it absolutely did not disappoint. The mixture of genres and the diversity of the featured artists keeps it fresh and exciting with every listen, but still feels absolutely cohesive as a journey through RM's trials and tribulations through his 20's, and ending on a hopeful note of moving forward and not looking back with regrets. A truly exhilarating emotional rollercoaster. Make sure to remove the shuffle option to listen in the order the artist intended and prepare to chill, groove, dance, smile, reflect, empathize, look inwards, shed some tears and finish on a cathartic note, looking only forward and not back. No regrets, no nevers. Expand

This is a masterpiece, an album imbued with so much emotions and vulnerability that it resonates with you. Listening to Indigo feels like he's telling a story specifically meant to be hear by you, I've never felt more seen or connected. His lyrics speaks to me, the Melodies touches my soul. I'm so thankful for Namjoon and this album. I'll never stop listening to it

Listening the album from the first track to the end really taking me to RM’s life journey, as he claimed to be his life during 2018-2020? It’s all just make sense and he really think the order through. Kicked off with Yun, in which touch me so deep with “I wanna be a human ‘fore I do some art”. I think this is necessary to be mentioned because nowadays lots of artist forget this aspect towards their art. My personal favorite will be Closer. RM really picked the right artist to featured with him. When sometimes too much feature can ruined the song, RM, Mahalia and Paul Blanco holds each other’s hands and perfecting the whole song. The last bridge ascend me to another world.

The closing song, No.2 is heartwarming too. Saying good bye to his 20s with “No looking back” is what we all need to hear (and apparently most of the fans also find this relatable). What makes it even more special is how he picked Park Jiyoon to feature on it. I do remember the story of how she was having a hard time on her early career due to the agency’s persona put on her. I hope she’s also not looking back because this song felt like a pat in the back to me too. I had love mono (RM’s other mixtape) in other way, but Indigo is just THAT album that I need, especially when I’m about to bid farewell to my 20s too. Thank you, RM!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. RM has made yet another outstanding album! To start, the overall theme seems to show a person with multiple things that make up their identity. Broken down though each song has an individual theme that ties to the next song. Each song flows together and is overall a well rounded album. The placement of each song has been well thought out and. Yun is the opening track and gives the overall vibe of being tired of everyone who doubts and dislikes them. The title track Wild Flower is a griping piece of art that hits you right in the heart. It gives a sense of sadness and yet also a sense of peace. The last song of this wonderful album is No.2 which completes the album with the thought of being yourself regardless of anyone else. Expand

Indigo is an eye-opening taste of what RM is truly capable of outside the bounds of the K-pop powerhouse.

It’s too early to tell if the record will help the BTS leader achieve his goal of creating something truly timeless but, in this moment, ‘Indigo’ feels like a masterpiece with the potential to be remembered as a classic.

Some moments fall flat – Lonely is cloying, paint-by-numbers EDM-pop that doesn’t fully land. Still, Indigo is a polished collection that spans both pop and rap with confidence.
