The band, here, is confident enough, skilled enough, and thoughtful enough to turn this massive piece--two lps of dark-metaphysical music backed by hardcore-tinged thrash--into one of their best works, if not their best work.

Howling, for the Nightmare Shall Consume is a landmark release for long-time metal miscreants Integrity, and a brave, brutal new direction for Hellion's life project.

Howling is full of venom, inspired by history and politics to create a dense mix of buzzsaw riffs and eerie atmospherics. [17 Jul 2017, p.52]

As always, Integrity’s affinity for chaos supplies much of Howling’s latent gravitas, especially on the first few listens. The record’s lurching pace is powered by a bludgeoning type of bait-and-switch mechanic; For every extended, arduous trudge through the trenches, there’s a shot of good, unclean fun.

Here, retaking the signature spell that Hellion and crew first conjured in the ’90s Cleveland scene, the band’s haunted hardcore gets a fresh coat of paint for the next stage of darkness. If you’re ready to enter the nightmare, this will get you howling.
