It's certainly a feast for the ears, and possibly the most satisfying listen since 2011 masterpiece Underneath The Pine. [Oct 2024, p.103]

An ever-shifting, yet cohesive addition to a stacked discography, this new album may surprise listeners at first – but will ultimately sit as a pivotal, guiding light in the music of Toro y Moi.

Bear could’ve gone in a million different directions, and rather than land on a singular sound to explore as he has in the past, he employs a plethora of styles that collide into one mesmerizing tracklist that grows on you with every listen.

Hole Erth is definitely something of a departure for Toro y Moi and Bundick as he's never sounded quite as modern and rap friendly as this. Unsurprisingly to anyone who has been following him since the beginning, Bundick handles the shift with sure-handed aplomb, and everything he tries works out perfectly. As usual.

At times, the album recalls the pop-punk era of the late ‘90s to early ‘00s. But as a whole, Hole Erth is reminiscent of the blog era of 15 years ago—the place where Toro y Moi began, and a worthwhile part of his artistry worth bringing back into focus eight many records in.

With these songs, you can hear the love letter to aughts rap-rock that Bear aimed for, not a misguided attempt at catering to Fortnite players. Unfortunately, most of Hole Erth comes across like the latter.
