The inventiveness on display is undeniably impressive, but the process sometimes hides a little too much of the artist behind it. [Nov 2022, p.86]

But man, the strange experimentation between folk/almost hyperpop-esc ballads is quite sensational. Fascinating record that has some of Alex's best written/produced songs to date. Highly recommend giving this one a listen. Full Review »

A zillion voices, zillions of instruments/percussion, and mysterious references/storylines. No way to digest this in one sitting. Everything sounds beautiful, piano, various creaks. Singing is great. Effects are enriching. It must have been a challenge to make this feel cohesive. I’m thinking Brand New mixed with alt-J, recent Bon Iver, and Teen Suicide. Confident, experimental, bonkers. No standout songs…just enjoy wading through the pool. Full Review »

It's an admirable fleshing out of all the things Alex has done best. The leading "runner"s anxiety or "no bitterness" folky Americana . This record feels like a sweet in-between of the coutry Americana of "rockets" and bizzare folktronica of "house of sugar" . A really good record on par if not better than the rest of his enigmatic catalogue. Full Review »
