A perfect mixture of enhanced pop and disco music. Certainly would not go out-of-date for the next 30 years and still would enjoy it. Levitating and Hallucinate are two of more of her masterpieces.

Dua delivers as usual that unique, deep and truthful voice that makes you distinguish her as soon as she starts singing. Throughout the album we can actually discover that her voice is the real protagonist and I do really appreciate it. Her singing feels natural and raw but it is not. She achieves to have a voice that just feels true to what she is singing and makes the listener connect better and deeper with the song. My recommendation? Just let her voice flow into you and move you, get lost in it.

This album serves as an example of a cohesive work that has been executed beautifully and thoughtfully, no detail was unfinished or unpolished. No song is a filler, she has chosen carefully to make every song count and thrive on its own. I can almost tell how many instrumentation was used in every song. The production is rich, beautiful (and expensive) but does not feel too much, its just the perfect companion and makes Dua's voice shine. It is an example of how sometimes, natural, minimalist but complex work perfectly.

The lyrics are pretty straight forward as Dua is. However, it's due to its simplicity that we find the beauty and connection with them. Lyrics are bold, fearless, sexy and empowering. Dua has told many times she's not afraid to speak her mind and this album is a clear example of it. She starts and ends strong in the album; a bold, empowering "Future Nostalgia" to make clear she has not come to play but to show how it's done (and she shows it very well) and a melancholic, real and deep "Boys Will Be Boys" to end it to keep things real and getting us back to Earth after levitating with her album. Personally I do appreciate that the last song was "Boys Will Be Boys" as if Dua is telling us through the majority of the album to enjoy, be empowered and feel sexy but ends with a strong "never forget what reality is like". Very clever move Dua!

All in all, I personally believe this album will lead the way of a new era for pop music and Dua will be a perfect and strong bold outspoken fearless leader, as it is a recap of every good sound that has been and a perfect start to pave the way for the new decade of pop. I perfectly see this album giving Dua's first Grammy for "Album Of The Year". Mark my words.

Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (39 min.), Pet sound (36 min.), Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols (38:50), Are You Experienced (40 min.); con i suoi 37 min. e 17 sec.

Dua is able to entice the listener with a retro sound that makes the listener nostalgic of music from the 80s and 70s while also encompassing a futuristic vision of what music should sound like in the future. A couple of these tracks don't work, but the ambition and execution of her sound is immaculate. I can't remember the last time a huge pop album was this well-constructed. The first three songs are knockouts and "Pretty Please" makes me want to move every time I hear it. If there is a better, more clever pop hook in 2020 than "Boys Will Be Boys," I have yet to hear it.

This album genuinely does not have a single bad track, every track features Dua's excellent songwriting, immaculate production, and top tier vocals! I was not a big fan of Dua Lipa before this album. While I liked her debut self titled album, it kinda left me wanting more, it almost felt like Dua wasn't utilizing her talents as well as she clearly can (which this album shows in a much better light). I had no plans of listening to this album on the first day of release, but after I saw the huge critical and musicophile acclaim the album was getting, I decided to check it out. And if you still couldn't tell by this point in the review, I absolutely adore this album. I am genuinely so damn happy to see this trend of mainstream pop musicians maturing and releasing their greatest bodies of work (Dua, Halsey, Ariana, Lana, Charli XCX, etc). This album is just another amazing body of work being added to pop music in the 21st century, and I couldn't be happier to witness it firsthand. In conclusion, this album is WORTH THE HYPE!!! The album is like a perfect mix of old pop school and very modern sound with the vibes of what we expect in future pop-culture. It feels like this is standard of making pop-music for next generation pop-stars. Clear statements and super-catchy songs. Good job!

Future Nostalgia is a great mix of 80'-ish pop bangers that really twist the medium pop music listener in a positive way. Dua Lipa's choice of not inserting any featuring into this record pays off, because she always maintain the control over the attention of who's listening to her. However, the three ending tracks kind of left me unsatisfied: I appreciated Dua Lipa's struggle in not sounding redundant, which is however the reason why Break My Heart andGood in Bed sound quite weak and too familiar with other past pop songs; Boys Will Be Boys, instead, is definitely a good track, but I didn't get why it was put at the end of the record, where I did expect something more adrenaline, in order to leave the listener with a good feeling. The curse of the second album was taken aback by the return of the '80s, this is incredible. An instance where exceeding low expectations has had more impact on the reception of an album than the work itself. Is Future Nostalgia a solid sophomore effort from a BNA winner - an award that carries quite a bit of baggage in recent times? Absolutely. FN is a cohesive body-of-work that adds diversity to Dua Lipa's catalogue and is filled with songs that fit 2020 pop music. To see it receive an 88 from critics is baffling, however, considering its only hit in the US was largely aided by a strong radio presence and nether followup as been able to resonate. An 88-scored pop album should be able to deliver more than 1 US Top 10 hit, and certainly more than 2 Top 40s. The success of those songs on the US Charts matches my reaction to the music perfectly: an average album with a few highlights > 1 Top 10, 1 Top 40, 1 Top 100. Expand

Make no mistake, her risks are still very within the context of a 4/4 pop structure, but she still finds such color and joy in her surroundings it's hard not to get swept up in her energy. Such risk-staking, however, can still lead to a few moments that could've used a bit more polish.
