UncutJun 26, 2025Here they have shuffled back a few years from the disco and jazz-funk infusions of 2021's Private Space to a more sun-dappled classic soul sound. It suits them perfectly too. [Aug 2025, p.32]

MojoJun 26, 2025The Stylistics would've killed for a song like Paradise, and I'm not sure they'd have performed it better. [Aug 2025, p.82]

Record CollectorAug 7, 2025A sublime soundtrack for summer nights. [Sep 2025, p.104]

Jun 26, 2025Flowers is another lunch-line scoop of hearty 70s soul revivalism from music's most dependable dispensary. It's just on the underside of too pretty for its own good.

Jun 26, 2025The laid-back neo-soul remains consistent throughout the album, as the foundational inspirations of 1970s soul are evident everywhere. Durand Jones & The Indications let the love and vocals shine on the blissful Flowers.

Jun 27, 2025Nothing is overly ornate. For the most part, it's a lowrider delight, all the way down to the weeping "Rust and Steel," where Jones compares the end of a relationship to a vehicular breakdown.

Jul 17, 2025There’s not a lot of sand or struggle in these tracks. The vocals never crack. The orchestra never misses a note. .... Only the late album cut “Rust and Steel” has much of a growl in it, and, no coincidence, it’s the track that hits hardest and stays longest. .... It reminds you that even the slickest quiet storm soul needs some fire in it. How about some more of that next time?
