Over the course of 12 bittersweet tracks, it becomes clearer and clearer just how lucky we are to be around for any time at all. [Jul 2024, p.105]

An impeccable, emotionally undulating, ultimately defiant set of songs from an old master. [Jul 2024, p.82]

With childhood friend Sean Coleman aboard to coax Brian Wilson-ness from the 1980s'-penned And You Run, and tunes as charming as Breezy Sweet Smile, let's be grateful that Eels Time! rolls on. [Jul 2024, p.89]

‘Eels Time!’ is arguably a touch one-track, and more casual fans may pine for the sonic diversity of ‘Souljacker’. Those who love E at his most contemplative, though, will find plenty to like.

Eels Time! is a fastball tossed down the middle. It will not have the overall significance of Beautiful Freak (1996) and (in vastly different ways) Blinking Lights and Other Revelations. Nor does it have the instant appeal of Shootenany! But it does reflect a singular talent who just won’t quit in the face of signs that have suggested he may not rise.

Throughout his three-decade career, E has brought a hushed beauty to the act of staring into the abyss, and his use of space on EELS TIME! (all caps for added irony) makes this lonely guy seem that much more lost in space. [Jul 2024, p.32]
