The anthemic, fist-pumping nature of the originals has been reimagined in a brooding acoustic darkness more reminiscent of Bruce Springsteen's then-previous work, Nebraska. [No. 113, p.81]

The quality varies but certainly hits the mark here and there. [Dec 2014, p.81]

A bit of a yawn considering most of the bands employed make no efforts to cloak their blue collar core. They sound too much along the campfire-and-malt-liquor rock rolodex Springsteen nailed to breathe new life into the tracks.

Ultimately, Dead Man's Town is a good idea executed poorly, an effort to peel back the veneer from Springsteen's songs that manages to toss away much of the core at the same time.

As a tribute, Dead Man’s Town: A Tribute to Born in the USA is fine enough; just falling short of the material it champions.
