Demi Lovato and her crew made a great job; the vocal is powerful than ever, the melody is catchy, all of the songs are well written and produced - we can feel her honesty - and let's not forget all the concept with the photography. You might not like the genre, but cannot say this is a bad album, because it is not. DWTD: TAOSO is definitelyI don't have enough words to describe this album. Her vocals and songwriting have already been absolutely spectacular for years, but after a nearly fatal overdose in 2018, she went on hiatus to work on herself and her sobriety. Since coming on this uphill climb, her vocals and songwriting have skyrocketed, and so has her fame. The hype for her lead single, “Dancing With the Devil,” and the YouTube docuseries that went with it, was not overrated. She did not disappoint with those, and she certainly did not disappoint with this album. Every track is uniquely wonderful. There are some fun bops, such as “Met Him Last Night (ft. Ariana Grande)” and “My Girlfriends Are My Boyfriend (ft. Saweetie),” as well as soulful, heart-wrenching ballads such as “I.C.U (Madison’s Lullaby),” “The Way You Don’t Look at Me,” and “Butterfly.” There’s even several songs that are just so beautiful, poetic, full of powerhouse vocals, and tell such an insanely important story, such as “Lonely People,” “California Sober,” “The Art of Starting Over,” and many more. In addition, the “Intro” track (#4) is a powerful interlude explaining Demi’s journey and where she is today as a human being with many struggles. I’ve listened to many albums in my days, and I’ve been a hardcore, dedicated Demi Lovato fan for nine years, and I have never in my life heard such a wonderful body of work until this album. Though only four years spanned the time between Demi’s sixth studio album (“Tell Me You Love Me,” 2017) and her seventh studio album (“Dancing With the Devil... The Art of Starting Over,” 2021), her vocals, songwriting, and personal maturity in subject matter of her songs and in her own personality have grown so much. This album does not belong to just a former Disney star. This album belongs to a woman who went through so many difficulties and came out on the other side stronger than ever, fighting for a happier life she knows she deserves. And that is why the last track on the album is “Good Place,” an emotional song about finally being in a freeing place she’s wanted to be all along. I’ve never heard an album take its audience on such an eventful journey. This is going to be the best album of the year. Nobody could possibly regret purchasing this album, as everyone will find several songs on it that they can identify with or find comfort in. A must buy.… Expand

It started with Anyone, which is about her darkest days before her accident. Then she admitted that she was Dancing With The Devil, which could be a metaphor for drugs and alcohol. But it could also represent her struggle with herself, the devil is in her since she was a child. After the accident, she was temporarily blind during the medical treatment in the ICU. Madison, her sister is always her beloved one. It broke everyone’s heart when she wasn’t able to see her sister’s face after she woke up. The Intro is what it is about, introducing the audience her new world. Even though she had screwed up too many times since she appeared in this industry, she wasn’t afraid to rise up again and again, maybe this is The Art of Starting Over of her. At the past, she was so obsessed with love, it’s hard to see her not getting into a relationship for a least a while. But now she finally understands that everyone is the Lonely People, who’ll die alone. The songs like The Way You Don’t Look At Me, Melon Cake and What Other People Say are talking about how she was struggling with other’s expectations before. The interesting part is, there is Met Him Last Night in the middle of that part, which I believe it’s related with her drug issue. In fact, it wasn’t talking about the one in 2018, but the most recent one that she had admitted in the documentary. Then Carefully and The Kind of Lover I Am are telling us she always deserves love. After that, it’s the whole different side of love, which’s talked in Easy and 15 Minutes, it’s just because there’s always hate and tears after a heart was broken. Then it comes to the most savage song My Girlfriends Are My Boyfriend, the only comment for this song is ‘Yea! We don’t have to judge her, this is her life, her choice and her joy.’, after years of being with toxic people, all she needs right now is to stay with the people who let her feel joyful and safe, the gender will never be a matter. Then, there is a cover Mad World which might be about her feeling towards the criticism towards her all these years. And Butterfly, I believe this is a song dedicated to her birth father. Lastly, California Sober and Good Place is representing how she feels right now. As an audience, it is satisfying to see her with a happy ending. Sonically, the vibe of this album is more chilling. Her voice is in a new other level. No one forced her to sing songs with dozens of high notes anymore, she just placed all those high notes in the good place perfectly. She wasn’t in a competition, she expressed what she wants and in where she wants. This is her best album, period!… Expand

    Such a huge turn from her last album but definitely not a bad one, sonically it’s very interesting and fun, with some heavier ballad songs. The lyrics are really great and this is probably her most cohesive album. Highly recommend.

    A masterpiece! She's so raw, authentic and honest and her journey is such an inspiration. This album is her most creative work, it tells a narrative and every single track has a meaning and its own story behind it. I literally have no words, i couldn't be more proud of her.

    Dancing With the Devil… The Art of Starting Over is Demi Lovato like we have never heard before. She is sassy and carefree while serious about her identity and personhood in a way she has been itching to be for years.

    The opening three tracks are almost an EP in their own right, before a quick reset. Semi title track ‘The Art Of Starting Over’ begins anew, a straight forward bop that gets to the root of Demi’s recovery – her natural talent, her ear for pop magic, affording room for personal renewal.
