Some stretches of the album may be a little too sleepy and subdued, with songs bleeding together in a hypnotic haze. Nonetheless, refreshingly void of aggression or any deliberate tension, Cloud Nine comforts with its positivity and charm.

The narrow emotional and musical range suggests Kygo doesn't have unexplored depths, but he doesn't need them. [#361, p.111]

Cloud Nine could certainly do with a few more musical ideas, but this shouldn’t trouble Kygo unduly--after all, the same problem never held back David Guetta and Calvin Harris.

His debut album, Cloud Nine, is naturally very same-y--deep house wasting away in Margaritaville--but unfailingly gorgeous.

He’s still figuring out the transition out of his remix artist phase, but enough works on his debut to show that there’s hope for the future.

The lyrics are as earnest and emotionally inarticulate as a 19-year-old on Tinder. Well, this is pop, where cliche can be transcendent, but these joyless songs are chemically castrated of any passion or sexuality.

From start to finish, this record takes you to a relaxing journey, giving it consistency for that matter and a sound very defined, while getting great collaborations from artists such as Tom Odell, Labrinth and folk duo Angus & Julia Stone. Highlights being Fiction, Firestone, Nothing Left, Fragile and For What It's Worth. Full Review »

It sometimes makes me feels bored and sleepy. This is a very different kind of EDM but not much of the good kind, it is sometimes lame and doesn't include much beats for a EDM album, not that much quality for a well known EDM star. This album is more of a relaxtion album, only when you have stress. Full Review »
