Chromatica is certainly Gaga’s most cohesive work sonically and thematically, and her most exciting work since Born This Way. I can also say, as a gay man, this is her gayest work to date. The album is deliciously club-ready - a science fiction-leaning, industrial-pop-dance party for the apocalypse, the darkwave and Eurodance elements evoking imagery of a futuristic cityscape at night. The album has some truly spectacular moments (“Stupid Love,” “Alice,” “Rain on Me,” “Free Woman,” “Plastic Doll,” “Sour Candy,” “Babylon”), and will be a guaranteed staple of gay clubs and dancehalls for years to come. The LP sounds like it was created outside of the pain of the modern age - it delightfully sounds like the soundtrack to a 90’s or Y2K era college party; although the themes are heavy, the album is able to create a glorious musical escape for the listener. Not every ambition or risk on the album pays off or soars as high as it can (notably the Elton John collaboration), but the energy and spirit of the album is strong nonetheless. Expand

Yes! This is what Lady gaga fans have been waiting for since 'Born This Way'. This is her most cohesive album yet, and notably, the only one so far that contains no fillers at all. Every track was placed perfectly, and serves to make the album even more infectious. From the very first string intro, you can tell this album would have a big massive sound, and Gaga delivered. The lyrics are very intricate, and you can actually FEEL the emotion behind the songs, even through the big beats (one thing BTW suffered from). Only downside to the album would be the bridges, some of them are just not that strong, but still not enough to detract too much from the fist pumping. LOVE IT! 9.5/10

"Chromatica" is not an innovation in pop sounds or album production, I'm sure a lot of us have heard these beats somewhere else, but it could be hard for her to reinvent pop music yet again when she created the current music blueprint back when she released "The Fame" in 2008. This album is full of dance floor ready beats and is filled with positive music/lyrics that could put anyone to dance in seconds. "Chromatica" is a pure return to Gaga's EDM/Electropop roots, and thank god she did. Expand

Honestly, the album is really fun and I enjoyed most of the production. Alice's explosive electro-pop, the seamless transitions throughout (Chromatica II into 911 / Chromatica III into Sine From Above), or just heavy dance-pop hits to forget about stress (Stupid Love, Rain on Me, Free Woman), the album is one whole body of work that makes you destress and dance for a while. And that's enough in 2020.

"Plastic Doll" and "Sine from Above", in their lyrics, are the ones that come closest of a ballad and for lack of an impactful ballad as it is notable in his previous albums, Gaga made that lack be totally forgotten when listening to the songs.
Perhaps it could be a new land, house music and euromusic was already part of Lady Gaga's music, but "Chromatica" has that totally attached to you.
Totally expected by many and Mother Monster did not sin at all and for being 16 tracks with just over 42 minutes, that doesn’t make it an unfinished job, it does that Lady Gaga in "Chromatica" show all your vocal capacity and in songs that can mark you for several generations ahead. His exquisite ending with "Babylon" gives him a taste for wanting more, but Gaga certainly keeps more where "Chromatica" came and it came to be marked in the history of music.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Chromatica is an incredibly strong album. Don't let the thumping beats fool you, this album is very personal and explores some of LG's darkest moments. Chromatica truly is about dancing through the pain. The tracks tend to be on the short side, but that's good for us as there are more to enjoy! Highlights include the hauntingly hypnotic Alice, the catchy but devastating 911, and Enigma with its rhythmic chorus. There are also three orchestral interludes in the album, composed by LG herself. Each interlude sets the atmosphere for the next track and allows the listener time to take a quick break in between dancing. There are some classic Gaga tracks on the album; the vulnerable Plastic Doll could fit perfectly into The Fame, whilst Stupid Love sounds like something straight from Born This Way. The album concludes with the empoweringly camp Babylon, ending in a triumphant acapella.

Thank you Lady Gaga, that's the soundtrack to my summer sorted!

A full 7 years after her last electro-infused pop album ARTPOP, Lady Gaga returns with what in some ways can be considered the 'real deal' of what she’s always attempted: a dark, honest and innovative exploration of her deepest insecurities.

While ARTPOP was met with criticism at its release, Chromatica reassesses this rejection: perhaps Gaga was just a little too early for a sonic trend she knew was inevitable. Now appears to be the time for her to truly embrace her House-inspired craft in her mainstream work, along with producers BloodPop, Axwell, and Madeon, amongst others.

Where Chromatica truly triumphs is that Lady Gaga has grown confident in expressing her deepest anxieties, all while letting go of the lyrical abstractions she found herself caught in with The Fame Monster and ARTPOP. Chromatica is blunt, and beautifully so. In every track, her inhibitions are simultaneously her inspiration and her lessons learned. The record tackles themes that have been thus far taboo in pop music: depression, PTSD, abuse, and loss of self – elevated all the more through sophisticated instrumentals. Who said mental health can't be cool?

There is something impenetrable about Lady Gaga. She's not perfect and at times I don't understand the performance she's putting on. But she manages to be the sole most important figure in pop. She transcends her own music and takes on a significance that few peers do.

With every lyric and every persona, she has intention. Few of her lyrics feel casual. Even the campy lyrics that she reorients her music on Chromatica with. Other reviews seem to confine her to her previous work, with nonstop comparisons to The Fame and to Madonna. This music is a fun nostalgic reference to the origins of queer, house music that speaks to Gaga, even while the rest of pop moves in other directions and eventually disappears.

Gaga is a theatrical talent. She is best when she explores and reinterprets others' art. She confused and retaught the world of her gift to sing in character for A Star is Born. On Chromatica, Gaga sounds more delicate and grown-up while dumbing down her often complicated music for the masses. She bounces around your earbuds and defies expectations once more, despite the world's unrealistic expectations of her performance. She's arrived this time with kinder messages.

You can almost tell that she has left her judgmental and critical home in Manhattan and become comfortable in her skin at her new home in sunny southern California. I have a feeling this will be the last relic of a young, self-conscious Gaga. And I am going to soak these beats and sounds up and wear it as my skin, as I have been doing for over a decade.

Sine From Above - Gaga e Elton entregam tudo nessa faixa!

Babylon - CHEGAMOS! É ela! A ETERNA RAINHA SEMPRE, A MULHER! Gaga serviu VOGUE; serviu Haus of Gaga! This Way/Express Yourself, teria sido intencional?

Expand

The nostalgia in the production — a blend of crisp digital synth textures and ringing grooves drawn directly from '90s house music — further bolsters the shadowed euphoria of a song like "Sour Candy," in which Gaga is joined by the K-pop girl group Blackpink; "Sine from Above," featuring Elton John, gets a similar friction from the interplay between their voices.
