choke enough is far more in conversation with experimental, salt-of-the-earth titles like Saya Gray’s SAYA and Ela Minus’ DÍA than Tate McRae’s So Close to What, or Rose Gray’s Louder, Please; its songs are sonorous, versatile and aim for intimacy rather than branding, cliché and casualness.

It’s confident, focused, and consistently strong enough that it feels like the right place for newcomers to start paying attention.

On choke enough, Oklou's mature and assured debut album, any potential bombast is subdued, like it was recorded underwater.

On choke enough, that highly skilled performer comes into her own as an artist. The title track is easily Oklou’s best to date.

in spite of this record’s formlessness, i keep coming back to choke enough. there’s something intriguing about a pop album committed to never, ever popping, while presenting enough cute little bits that are just memorable enough to be able to describe oklou’s music.
