‘2’ is a stronger album than their debut. It takes more risks; it’s catchier and feels like a body of work.

This is a wonderful album keeps its tender heart up close and its ravaged noise at a remove, but both of them are beautiful.

At their best, caroline create compositions that blow your socks off, leaving you staring into space as your brain routes all of its energy into trying to comprehend the beautiful frankenstein they’ve created. Leading with their best song made it hard to keep that momentum going, and the album’s attempts to get back on its feet often see it keep pace but not break out into its original sprint.
