It’s not necessarily one to be filed alongside ‘Parklife’ or ‘Definitely Maybe, but there’s a distinct whiff of the era’s wistfulness across ‘Human’ and ‘Spies’ - plus a cheeky repeated “hello” in ‘Pretty Face’ that’s surely a nod to the Oasis track of the same name.

If you're a fan of Williams, there are no surprises here, just ten more great songs to add to a catalog that might one day get the credit it's due for the pop star's contribution to, what else, Brit-pop.

This is an album that doesn’t really need any artificial bluster to draw attention. The songs are more than good enough.

The whole album is a lot of fun. .... Britpop may ultimately be too old-fashioned to put the 51-year-old Williams back on the pop throne, but if it had come out in 1995, it might be counted as a vintage Britpop classic by now.

Conceptually sound or not, Britpop is never less than engaging.

This is Williams’ strongest songwriting in some time.

As ever with Robbie Williams, there are moments of pop brilliance, and moments where it all falls a bit flat. But, as his first ‘proper’ album in almost a decade, it’s a pretty good re-introduction to one of pop music’s more creative individuals.
