They balance killer musicianship and verbal panache with a bar-band mindset. Album of the year? Possibly, but that's just business as usual for Maryland's finest.

It's up there with the very best records they've released. [Sep 2018, p.86]

It's [Neil Fallon's} witty, intelligent, lusty lyrics that elevate Book Of Bad Decisions from good to great. [Oct 2018, p.50]

Book of Bad Decisions is an excellent late-era entry into the band's vast catalog, a natural product of their enduring chemistry and dedication to their legion of fans.

This is another collection as thrilling as back catalogue classics like The Elephant Riders (1998) and Blast Tyrant (2004). [1 Sep 2018, p.54]

Tracks like “Weird Times” and “Ghoul Wrangler” aren’t so much weak as redundant, overshadowed by the album’s more distinctive moments--Book of Bad Decisions might have been a stronger 40-minute album than the nearly hour-long 15-track helping that it is.

The result sounds tired, formulated, comfortable, and much too safe to be satisfying. If the album does one good thing, it's that it begs us to go back and listen to the catalogue of Clutch that was so bold and exciting.
