As reserved as it is remorseful and romantic, Bloodlines is a moving, grand achievement.

A great example of someone following their musical instincts into new areas and finding success, Bloodlines is also a highlight of the year so far.

Although Bloodlines takes its time to get under your skin, when it does, it sinks in deep.

  5. His reinvention nears Hot Chip’s disco-pop on ‘Pagliaccio’, flirts with hip-hop via the big beat and looping riff of ‘Turbine’, and blends lyrical emotiveness with slow-tempo electronic touches on ‘SIHFIY’.

If there's a flaw, it's that Mathe's songwriting is more conventional than the arrangements. But there's no denying the emotion behind his heartfelt croon. [Sep 2013, p.97]

The post-punkish synth-funk of "Pagliaccio" and the "Unchained Melody"-referencing 6/8-time epic "Saviour Self" adds variety, but beneath the sonic modernism lies an artist rather too eager to be Hot Chip's more earnest little brother. [Sep 2013, p.85]
