By far my favorite album from BTS. Every song fits in perfectly.
It also describes the way one felt in the middle of the pandemic, from Life Goes On that gives the message of hope for better days to Blue and Gray that describes the feelings of desperation.
The variety of songs are also great Dis-ease is a nod to their hip-hop past, while Stay was made to jump up and down in a concert.

Or better, it is a warm soup we'll need in cold winter. In this simple album, BTS shows maturity in musicality, concept, as well as a humble acceptance for the pandemic-caused situation which is hard for everyone, including for ARMY they've cherished in their heart, and for them, as individuals, artists and performers.

The album is introduced by "Life Goes On" which engages people more to the present, the reality. This track invites us to accept the situation wisely, and it is depicted finely with the choices of cozy RnB. A small portion of electronic sounds, a 'tock' and humming sound which is surprisingly familiar and bizare at the same time, a sprinkle of autotunes chosen wisely on the production. The choice to have floating ending, maybe to be play again and again, but also at the same time connect to the lyrics "I remember", the scene at the MV, as if a confirmation of the main message "life goes on like this again". On top of musicality, "Life Goes On" brought us thoughtful lyrics from wise seven young men, without trying to tell you this and that.

"Fly to My Room" is a revisit to the lessons they got during American Hustle (2014). Usually, they mix vocal part and rap part as they did much in the MOTS:7. Yet, in this HER-vibe track, they contrast not only vocal and rap part, but also each style of Taehyung's, Jimin's, Suga's, and J-Hope's, as if they are discussing the whole pandemic situation in an intimate way. This track is a craft. If it is a warm patchwork blanket, it is sewn delicately.

"Blue and Grey" is another masterpiece of exploring the vulnerability of human beings positioned in precarious moments. Like when everything seems off the grip. Blue and Grey offer a comforting delicacy served by indie-vibe of guitar, comforting vocals while still warm you with enough spices from the rap line.

"Telepathy" is a "you-can-not-resist" invitation for every ARMY to took their hand and dance, having a pajamas party in their rooms! It is a brilliant pilgrimage to the 1980's pop disco where fun, witty lyrics were at the top in easing up the life tension due to emerging capitalist society. With a tropical touch on the track, it twists the aim of retro-pop-disco back then to fit with the current situation.

Every ARMY will know that Dis-ease is J-Hope's vibe track. Exact contra to Blue and Grey, it depicts the feeling when the body already at the limit of digesting the whole situation. Annoyance, impatience, and endless hopes are put out in this track. The contrast also because of the choices of aesthetics, which simply musically banal while still 'on the track' of RnB, hip-hop vibe. This doubt might be caught by music enthusiasts and may lessen the overall evaluation of the album. However, good critics should also dig deep into the aesthetic history of BTS, especially put attention on each individual musicality of the member. Only by then, J-Hope's choices of style be evaluated fairly.

"Stay" performed by Jungkook, Jin, and RM is supposed to be a hype-up song to play in the dance room. The choice of music seems to unmatch with the overall concept, but hey, with the advance of speakers nowadays, everybody can have a party in their own room right? Contra to the title, the track brings "the lonely crowd" who are partying in their own room to run away! Thus, make another inquiry of why this track put on the last, just before Dynamite. Maybe they will announce something shortly?

Aside from the debate of whether Dynamite should be included or not included in the album, anyway, the track is in. It is supplementary, yet the album does not complete without it. Looking back on the overall message BTS trying to put up, it is not surprising that they decided that way. With Dynamite, the overall package from depressing, mad, up till acceptance to the pandemic situation will come to end with a challenge; what will you do? go out and play a game of ping pong, with friends! Dynamite ends the message of BE with a challenge to do whatever the listeners would like to do.

Now, many reviews skip the SKIT as it is not even a song. In my opinion, however, skit has a significant role in positioning what this album is all about, and to what exactly the direction BTS is pointing to. With this skit, BTS is losing their marks for certain awards evaluations. So, they are not thinking about getting an award for this album, though, their musicality from BE compare to the previous albums has matured so much. Especially since they are involved thoroughly in the production this time. Music enthusiasts will notice a huge reduction of autotunes, simple and raw editing, and so on. It seems like it produced by an indie company rather than arguably the biggest label in South Korea.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. BE is an extremely cohesive and raw album. BTS approaches the pandemic in a hopeful and mature way. Starting slow and calm with songs like Life Goes On, and ending the album with the explosion of emotions that is Dynamite, BE feels like the acceptance of a new reality rather than the fear of what the world can become.

BTS’ lyricism is again one of the best in the industry. It’s a shame that most critics, including the ones who wrote pieces cited here on Metacritic, aren’t able to do their homework properly. It’s obvious from their poorly researched reviews that they did the bare minimum to understand the album, its purpose and its lyrics. The language barrier is a mere excuse for poor journalism. The independent even dared to report that Blue and Grey, whose lyrics are about sadness and depression during the pandemic, is for the “sexy/horny moods of lockdown,” a simply distasteful and disrespectful take. From Life Goes On, BE’s title track: “One day, the world stopped / without any forewarning / Spring, not knowing the concept of waiting, / failed to read the room and showed up.” This small excerpt alone gives the listener can have an idea of the depth of the message BTS is trying to convey. The personification of spring is just one example of the pure poetry that is BE. Lastly, melody-wise, the album is also far from generic. Dis-ease, and old-school hip hop track, has very interesting samples and extremely detailed production. Overall, BE uses a variety of instruments to create the seamless transition from alternative hiphop to pop ballads, from a funky track to a melodic rap EDM. BE is a very well structured journey from start to finish.

BE is like a warm hug on a cold winter day, but it doesn't gloss over the pain and hardships people have gone through over the past months. It discusses stress, mental illness, loneliness, but does end on a more positive note each time. They went back to their older sound with the track Dis-ease, which is more hiphop-based but also has some other musucal elements that keep building up throughout the song. Telepathy is probably one of those songs that you keep playing multiple times a day, just to understand it more. A lot of people have discussed how the album makes you want to re-listen to understand it more. I experience the same thing because the order of songs feels so /right/ yet keeps your attention (e.g. the skit section that is brought back, serving as an intermezzo in the album, or Stay ending on a distorted noise that keeps getting louder and creates tension, which is then taken away and turned into relief once Dynamite starts playing). Another reason for the album being so fit for repeated listening (please do not loop though; algorithms and all) is that various songs do not or do not appear to have a clear-cut chorus. That can be messy but in this case it creares a very nice flow in the songs. BE is like a hug where you're allowed to cry, and heal through that cry. Expand

Blue and grey is about anxiety and depression and Dis-ease is about the anxiety we feel from not being productive enough in this quarantine. Almighty knew I needed these songs in my life because I am not in a very good position mentally. Stay is about what they feel after not seeing their fans for so long. It's an album not about music experimentation and taking risks but about just simply giving comfort. Each verse in Dis-ease is so good and the lyrics and wordplay is top quality. The strongest point of a BTS album is the story they tell through their album and the lyrics of their music. I love the progression in this album and the lyrics of course. Expand

"BE" foi a proposta que eles ofereceram de um pocketshow acústico muito bem coordenado; ao invés de se aventurarem com batidas complexas como exigem suas coreografias, os seven boys se permitiram coreografar os sentimentos mais serenos e acinzentados em suas letras. Deixaram um hit mundial abrir portas para outros tons além das cores fascinantes de "Dynamite".

One of the group's most cohesive jobs, perhaps the short duration of just 28 minutes, was the key for the album to maintain a pleasant sound throughout the journey, where members lead fans to talk about problems but with a hint of hope. Finally, it remains only to absorb the messages of each song and, if necessary, press the replay and listen to everything again.

One of the best albums by BTS to date, it consits pretty good songs but some of the connections are lacking i guess. Other songs are not bad but non of them can do the same thing that Blue & Grey did.
To be honest, this album is a good record and worth it to listen to.

BTS steps in the right direction due to a newly founded vulnerability - that MOTS:7 needed so badly. armed with a precise production, honest lyrics, and a total lack of ego, this album is BTS at its peak: lighthearted, straight-forward, and original. deserved to be a lot longer.

I'm very conflicted on this album. While I do love the songs, there's nothing new that we haven't heard from the septet before. The sounds of 'Life Goes On' and 'Blue & Grey' are very reminiscent of the early stages of the band's discography, such as the sounds in 'The Most Beautiful Moment in Life' and in 'You Never Walk Alone.' The songs 'Fly To My Room' and 'Telepathy' could easily be on the tracklist of 'Love Yourself: Her' and I wouldn't notice. 'Dis-ease' is very similar to the bouncy 'HOME' in 'MAP OF THE SOUL : PERSONA' and 'Stay' is basically the second part of 'So What' in the mellow but contradictory 'Love Yourself: Tear.' And yet, I still love this album. I still love the septet's sound. I can't help but sing to the final distorted notes on 'Life Goes On' and I can't help but dance in my chair to 'Dis-ease' and 'Telepathy.' But in the end, I was just very underwhelmed after hearing this for the first time. I was waiting for more. Sure, this is an EP with barely thirty minutes of music but honestly, I've seen MANY other EP's just as short as this one be more exploratory and miles ahead in lyricism and production (for example, 'RINA' by Rina Sawayama and 'M3LL155X' by FKA twigs, just to name a few). I know BTS can do better and I know the boys are amazing producers and songwriters. They have produced and wrote heartfelt and heartBREAKING songs, such as 4 O'Clock (a duet between RM and V) and House of Cards (a quartet featuring the vocalists of the group). The lyrics on this EP are honestly just lackluster. Sure, they have that message of hope for the future and dealing with situations of the present (especially on 'Life Goes On') but we've heard this too many times this year.

However, at the end of the day, this is still a decent EP. This is still a melancholy, yet bouncy, EP. This is still a nice, but lackluster, EP. I'm just hoping the septet explores more and reaches further heights on their next EP or studio album because I know they can do better than this.

They briefly revisited it with black swan which in my opinion was a huge loss because that song was incredible their most visually and conceptually stunning release since ly:tear but the rollout of the single was horrific so it underperformed unfortunately and again with their track UGH! In mots7 a huge miss to expand their audience beyond armys and the pop genre if they actually promoted it in the US where rap is the top genre and im aware some army's will be mad and call me a fake fan but its already reflecting in the charts as its only been 1 day and BE is already dropping ....BTS needs to revisit their roots go back to dark n wild and take inspiration from the oldschool bangtan we all fell in love with Expand

I decided to listen to this album after seeing it highly reviewed. While the song I had heard back in 2020, Dynamite, is a catchy and a hit for me, the rest of the album falls flat - fillers that don't leave me feeling as optimistic as when I started listening.

Deciding to reflect on states of mind some of us could resonate to – especially this year – BE serves as a chronicle of what 2020 has been during lockdown: a year of uncertainty, anxiety, depression and frustration. But it also delivers hope for the future.
