There is an aura of immanence, of something more than banjo, bass and drums, that infuses these mystic tracks. Many things are possible, too, when you put together three such capable player and give them time and space to transcend themselves.

Are Possible grasps the roots of folk tradition and propels them enthusiastically into new terrain. [Sep 2024, p.88]

It's a lovely record with a lot of personality and passion that showcases a rarely heard instrumental combo.

It’s the genuine connection of Bowles, Toll and McMurry that makes it all bounce, which is hardly what one might expect from a banjo fronted group. [Aug 2024, p.48]

Banjo-led instrumentals that pay homage to Appalachian folk music is a hyper-specific niche, but Bowles and his band never allow their preferred sounds to hem in their experiments.

It’s a freewheeling, intricate blend of hypnotic clawhammer banjo, breathy flutes, wheezing harmonium, funky drumming, and Casey Toll’s throbbing, thumping double bass. It’s as warm and mesmerizing as a bed of embers in a dark forest – if you stop and pay attention.

Tight but loose, Are Possible sits nicely alongside other hypnotic, folksy acts like 75 Dollar Bill and Natural Information Society. [Sep 2024, p.29]
