Mar 6, 2018All That Must Be is that rare electronic album that matches musical accomplishment with an emotional pull. There are real depth and soul to the record with the head and heart working in perfect harmony. Musically assured, it sees FitzGerald draw on his various influences to create something reflective, distinctive and downright stunning.

Mar 1, 2018The music is more emotive, the confidence sharper, the production bolder. ... All That Must Be is going to be lodged into key craniums for the rest of 2018.
-
Mar 9, 2018All That Must Be is a record that frequently toys with this idea of transition; creating a constant balancing act between two forces fighting against each other. At some point someone has to give in, and this is the perfect soundtrack for letting go.

Mar 8, 2018While the downtrodden Fading Love was a noteworthy debut full-length from an artist who had built up a solid discography of club singles, FitzGerald seems re-energized this time around, and the excellent All That Must Be is a clear improvement over his previous release.
-
Mar 8, 2018A truly wonderful album, created by an artist firmly in the ascendency.
-
Mar 7, 2018Ultimately, All That Must Be is a glowing album that plots the psychological journey of its creator through the often un-navigable waters of change. Yet somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle of real life, Fitzgerald found his strongest compass.
-
Mar 9, 2018It’s agreeably pleasant stuff, yet ultimately as modest and forgettable as the name might suggest.
-
Mar 20, 2018All That Must Be doesn’t quite live up to its own heartstring-tugging goals; too often, it’s just kind of comfortably glum.
-
Mar 13, 2018All That Must Be is a smooth journey from start to finish, but it too often feels familiar. In spite of a new cast of collaborators, little about the LP improves on its predecessor. What sounded unique from FitzGerald three years ago isn't quite as satisfying this time around.
-
Mar 6, 2018The most successful of these joint efforts is Outgrown which was co-written by Bonobo; elsewhere, partnerships with the likes of Lil Silva and Tracey Thorn cast a pop overtone--a characteristic of FitzGerald's past productions, but here it feels overly saccharine. Ultimately, All That Must Be’s best moments are also its least contrived.

MojoMar 1, 2018A mixed bag all round. [Apr 2018, p.91]
-
Q MagazineMar 1, 2018It still falls to his guest vocalists to distill the album's emotive mood. [Apr 2018, p.108]
-
UncutMar 1, 2018The lack of variety and formulaic production give this a wholly generic flavour. [Apr 2018, p.27]

Mar 14, 2018The real highlights are the two tracks with lyrics, Roll Back with Lil Silva and the suitably nocturnal Half-Light (Night Version) with Tracey Thorn of Everything But The Girl. These songs play to Fitzgerald’s strengths. By contrast, the rest of the album feels like watching a stage with no performers on it. A well-lit stage, as Fitzgerald can create a mood well, but still fundamentally a hollow experience.
