Where and when he was born, how he got his metal bones, the big gaps in his memory, the "true" story behind Three Mile Island (I thought that bit was pretty funny), etc.)
The acting, script, and directing were all pretty good too. I'm glad I finally got to see this.

It was an interesting story to see how Wolverine became the mutant that he is today. Hugh Jackman's great performance and a lot of action make this worth watching.

It's a great superhero film about one of my favorite characters, it gives tons of back story to his complex persona and has loads of great action! The only criticism that I completely understand is what was done with Deadpools character... He starts off great but the ending completely betrays everything his characters is about. However, that is a small complaint to what is otherwise an excellent superhero film! Expand

Good story- Nice to get an early glimpse on the early mutants and how Wolverine came to be. I strongly disagree with most critics who down-right hated this film.

I absolutely love this movie. It brings Wraith, Deadpool, Blob, and Gambit to life. What more can you ask for? This has some dull plot transitions, but otherwise, it's an outstanding film that certainly hits home to the comic fans.

Turns out that's not always a bad thing. As much as it bugs me how centered around Wolverine this property became in Fox's hands despite pulling from a source material full of other rich characters that could have used some time in the spotlight, I can't deny that Hugh Jackman can carry a show. It's a blast watching him shred through anything foolish enough to get in his way. Sure, he and his fellow mutants are now more just sets of powers rather than fully realized beings, but they do their job of carrying the revenge plot forward and letting us know how Logan got all metal (which I actually thought X2 kind of dropped the ball on) while delivering plenty of thrills along the way.

It's definitely not perfect. This is where the convoluted timeline of these films first started to get messy after all. Like, if Sabretooth is Wolverine's half-brother why did that not come up when they fought in the first movie? Also, why did he and Logan only stop aging when they reached their thirties? The plot holes really began to accumulate here and only grew in the subsequent releases.

When viewed as its own standalone thing though it's kind of easy to just turn your brain off and go with it. The action, while prone to some ludicrous and goofy moments, is a heck of a lot of fun and we get to watch Liev Schreiber clearly having a blast hamming it up in his villainous role. Plus, its simplistic nature and emphasis on spectacle over subtext makes Origins easily the most accessible for multiple rewatches in the entire franchise. Not least of all because it's on the shorter end of the running times in this series. Honestly, for all the hate this receives the only thing terribly wrong here is what they did to Deadpool. Which was a crime against humanity someone needs to be punished for.

This film is much greater than what the reputation says.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a great film when it comes to giving the audience a back-story of Wolverine's life before he joined X-Men. There's also a bunch of groovy action sequences that I truly enjoyed to watch, not to mention that I never got bored! But when you compare this and other X-Men films, it totally isn't that great. The reason are (SPOILERS) that there are some details that doesn't make sense at all, one of them is that Charles is walking in this film, which doesn't make sense. X-Men Origins: Wolverine plays out in the 80s, and First Class in the 60s. If you haven't seen X-Men: Days of Future Past this can be a problem, but if you have you might have a clue on why. In Days of Future Past, in the 60-70s, Charles got a drug that makes him walk again, but also results in weaker powers. In X-Men Origins: Wolverine you can hear Charles talk through his brain to the younger Scott, so he still got his powers. One possible explanation for this can be that Charles was able to develop the drug so he can use his powers and walk at the same time. This is just my theory. X-Men Origins: Wolverine isn't a well thought-out film, but it's still great.

One other aspect of this film that's bad is the terrible CGI. The first X-Men film got wonderful CGI, which was in the year 2000, and this film was made in 2009. I mean come on?!

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a great film that's better than the reputation, and the opening scene is awesome! Even though, it doesn't impress me when it comes to the story and CGI.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine get a 7.8/10

And one thing that pissed me off the most is that Logan and Victor were brothers that went through decades together, fought many wars side by side and who know what else not and then all of a sudden their relationship went 180 in one night?? Logan just walks away and Victor calls him 3 times and we now go our separate ways... that is almost insulting.
This is yet again a story that is to long for a movie but still it was crushed into a 1 and a half hour movie and every thing in it seems rushed.

Just about passable.

I never felt bored while watching 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine', which is why I can't give it a lower rating. The action is well done and it gives the satisfactory amount of enjoyment, shame the CGI isn't quite up to scratch though. As with the preceding three 'X-Men' releases, I really do enjoy watching Hugh Jackman as Wolverine - he is certainly the best thing about these films.

With all that noted, the film does definitely have issues. I didn't overly like the new characters and the plot didn't truly fulfil what I was expecting/wanting from an origin story, even if it is fairly fun to watch. Elsewhere, Ryan Reynolds is introduced as his well known character, I look forward to seeing more of him in the role - here, he's fine.

Four films in and there's a slow decline ongoing, hopefully 'X-Men: First Class'* at least regains footing with the opening two productions. *I'm watching these in release order.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just like any other kid who grew up watching the X-Men cartoons, I really liked Wolverine. He was like the most badass character to ever exist, probably only next to Cyclops and Toad (yes I liked Toad, but only in the animated series). I didn't know how important Wolverine is supposed to be in the comic series. I just liked him for being a lone wolf who doesn't stay within the norms of X-Men the way the other characters do. So when I heard there's a movie entirely based around him, I was pretty excited. However, my excitement was just as short lived as the intro scenes.

In the beginning we are shown that Logan and his brother ran from their house and later took part in many wars. That scene was so cool! I was expecting the entire movie to be set around those scenes. But literally a few minutes later the movie completely diverts the story to Wolverine and his love interest. Now I was thinking, "Okay fine, maybe this will also be as good as the previous scenes." But then it's just talking, talking and more talking. Finally we are shown why his name is Wolverine: Because she said it! Like, what?

Later on she dies (yay!), and Wolverine wants to revenge her death from his brother. But he isn't strong enough so he gets tricked into having adamantium filled in his body. He runs away, hides in an old couple's house and the couple get killed by the bad guys. Normally people have a problem with the bad CGI claws or the unrealistic physics with which he attacks the helicopter, but I don't have any problems. Rather I enjoyed those scenes. I grew up watching Bollywood movies, so this doesn't make me feel bad.

In the end Wolverine faces his brother and they fight, only to reveal Kayla isn't dead yet (no!). Then something something Wolverine runs and cuts down all the capsules that were holding the mutants. It's a good thing they also showed Cyclops in one scene, how he got his powers. And that, I guarantee you, was a way better way of showing someone get heat vision than what was shown in Man of Steel, and that's saying something because I really like Man of Steel. All the mutants escape and Professor X comes out of nowhere to escort them. He's walking instead of being on a wheelchair, so probably they were planning a story about him which they scrapped and made X-Men: The Last Stand instead.

And finally in the end there's a showdown between Wolverine and Deadpool (now it feels so weird calling that pathetic excuse as Deadpool, now that we have the 2016 movie). Deadpool dies, Kayla cries and Wolverine gets shot in the head and loses his memory. That's all the movie was. Everything else was a filler.

The way this movie was made, I think there were gonna be many more of these "X-Men Origins" spin-off movies. But seeing the terrible reception this one got, they had to scrap the idea. Like I said in the beginning, they could have shown so many things. Wolverine is one of the most iconic superheroes to ever exist, possibly only the 4th most popular superhero after Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. This movie does heavy injustice to him. Although I still like it because of the fact that it's Wolverine and that they actually did something for him. Like I said before, I don't mind the unrealistic physics or the bad CGI. The character development in this movie is actually very good. So I expected this movie to have a couple of sequels as well and it would have fixed the problem of the lack of content. But occasionally it went into certain territories which made me question if we really need a sequel for this movie. So I would say Fox made the right decision by not flogging a dead franchise and choosing to make a couple of good movies to revive it.
