I was completely taken in by the trailer. It looked haunting, and stunning, and eerily beautiful. When the trailer finished, I thought to myself: "Wow! That movie looks amazing! An A24 flick too? How come I have never heard of it before?"

A quick Google search revealed that Woodshock is widely regarded as one of the worst films A24 has ever produced. I got my hands on a copy, and was determined to find out the truth. So, is Woodshock A24's biggest blunder?

It just might be.

Woodshock is pretentious garbage, and is the complete opposite of whatever the trailer was trying to evoke. The film is a very poor avant-garde movie, and it almost feels like it was made avant-garde after the fact, which is completely insulting. The "narrative" makes some bold claims about euthanasia, death, and suicide that it never ever delivers on. The story is just some weepy tumblr girl being justified as the victim after doing some really horrendous things. For the most part, Kirsten Dunst does what she can, and the very last shot of the film is visually impressive. Other than that, Woodshock is a mess.

There is only one word that can describe Woodshock: Irredeemable. This movie is atrocious. What happened, A24?

A feast of boredom and filmmaking poverty. A terrible narrative seasoned with performances as simple as what the story proposes. One of the most forgettable films of 2017 and perhaps one of the worst in Kirsten Dunst's career.

I think this has one of the coolest posters and trailers of any 2017 movie or maybe even any movie. I was really excited when this came out but I couldn't go opening week and the following week it was gone. The critics hated it, I would've still gone because I loved the trailer and poster, but I couldn't of. The one thing an Indie needs is happy critics. I realized, however, that it was free on amazon, so it seemed only fair I give it a watch. The critics I heard from all said it was trippy garbage and I was curious. But, it is NOT trippy garbage, it is legitimately nothing. There is no plot. There's not even hallucinations. It was made for tumblr. I swear that there were points where they paused just so someone could make it a gif set and they could get free advertising. Every single scene is like that. All these slow but aesthetic looking stills are paired with whispering dialogue. That's right, whispering. Everyone talks in lowered voices and barely says anything. I could not keep up with who was who because I was sooo bored and they weren't accenting and words, there were no words to hold onto. My mom came in while I was watching and genuinely asked if I was awake which perfectly describes my feelings towards this movie. Expand
