Plus the grand finale is too simple. It does tell an interesting story and there are talented actors in it, but something is missing for me. I mean for me to give it a higher rating it has to have something more memorable in it, otherwise I think I will just forget about such movie's existance after few months Expand

Every aspect about its presentation that is good is complemented by an aspect of its presentation that is bad. Ultimately, it's just unremarkable, and kind of bland. To delve further into this, I'd like to express what exactly it did right and did wrong.
Right:
- Cinematography, the choice to over expose some scenes was really a smart choice, and added to the film's style
- Jeremy Renner is a great actor
- The scenes without music where powerful
- The effects involving blood where great
- Directing was pretty great
- It was pretty well written
Wrong
- The conversations where boringly edited
- Elizabeth Olsen was terrible
- The scenes with music were cheesey and stupid
- The snow effects looked like ****
- The choice to "show what happened" would've been much more powerful if it was explained in that one scene on the mountain, rather than shown. (at least imo)
- There were some really corny scenes, particularly the one where Jeremy Renner was talking about his daughter.
Sorry for the scattered thoughts, but it's 10:13 and I really can't write anything cohesive.

This is a decent attempt at a directoral debut and id recommend the film to people who are interested in the genre but overall I found the films pace to be quite slow, the acting to be quite standard, the directing quite serviceable and I believe the film could have benefited from a more talented cinematographer given the setting of the film was well established but poorly presented. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I liked the movie, but felt the story structure was a little to dry, and the mystery of the murder doesn't take the audience into a thrill ride. It feels like the story is being pushed on a cart going toward the end without much reveal, until they actually show it in a flashback. I personally think if they had met the real antagonists in the beginning of the movie, and built from there, we would have seen a stronger tug of war with the mystery. None of the men were getting in the way of the FBI agent or the Hunter... until the end. Still a nice film, but not amazing! Expand

A pretty decent movie that makes you feel cold. Jeremy Renner does well in his role and Elizabeth Olsen came off better than I expected as an FBI agent.

An FBI is called in since police has no jurisdiction over Indian territory.
A single female FBI agent teams up with a local hunter played by Jeremy Renner to investigate the murder.

The movie is a thriller. There is a lot of blood and a lot of corpses.
Beautiful cinematography, outstanding performance from Jeremy Renner, maybe one of his best roles. I was not very impressed with the script though. Many unrealistic situations, plenty of cliches.

Overall, a mixed bag. Your mileage may vary.

It is a movie more focussed on form and less on story.
It's beautifully shot and has some impressive acting. But in order to get it's point across it is so incredibly slow and boring that I nearly left half way.

Wind River was trite, mostly boring, with only passable acting, and not much story at all. I've seen much better "on the res" movies, and this lacked those by every perceivable measure.

Very powerful and many ways but some elements of the plot really didn't work for me.

And it's so obvious how ideas which Wind River fails to express unfold in Yellowstone. Film looks like a bad compromise between scenarist and producer. Many stories started left abandoned and unfinished. See some examples: story hints some specific problems of native americans but it is not clear what really troubles them, or it's all about living in the middle of nowhere no matter of skin color. The main guy Cory Lambert hunts pumas thought the story and finally finds the lair, but does not kill the cubs, noticing trails on snow and being distracted... so what? Will he kill them later does it have ant matter for him? There is no answer. Was it just cut from the screenplay? Why security personnel from drilling camp decide to offend the officials? They aren't drunk any more, don't anyone realize that they haven't got a single chance to escape responsibility? So follows scene of shooting in Tarantino's style... but it is not Tarantino and scene looks artificial, alien and irrational. Was is in original scenario? And what about relations of Cory and his son? Looks like he took him to reservation and left till the end of film, you can just can completely cut all scenes with son from first half of story, and it will change nothing. Why would you start story which you are not going to finish? And what about Jane Banner, ok at first she is portrayed like young unexperienced but highly responsible FBI agent. Finally Cory saves her from death and tells many compliments in hospital. But what was this experience for her? Have is changed her life, her points of view, her character? Not even a hint. Later Taylor Sheridan was finally able to express his ideas in the Yellowstone, but in the Wind River he completely failed. Expand

The plot is a little slow to build but it is fairly atmospheric and at the end some information is given by way of text, which I thought was interesting. Its somewhat thought provoking, a bit bleak but not a bad film as such. I wouldn't, however, actively recommend it as such, no. Expand
