This isn't a love story, or perhaps it is. Being set in the town of Kutaisi, Georgia, where Koberidze is from, one can easily see that he loves the place, so the film could be perceived as a love letter to the small city, full of funny and interesting characters, including a group of dogs that get mad at each other for not being on time to watch the FIFA World Cup.

It could also be a love story about being enamored with Lionel Messi and the Argentinian Football team, which feature prominently in the film. But, in the end, I think this is a love story about the little things; the everyday life that's full of stories and even fairy tales, which we sometimes refuse to believe. With this work, Koberidze reminds us of the magic of living with an optimistic and beautifully shot film about two persons that find each other when they finally stop to search for each other.

That in itself is a theme that can mean that this film can be considered a majestic epic of cinematic art, or a simple and mundane exhibition of self-indulgence and pretentiousness.

That's why, in a nutshell, What Do We See When We Look at the Sky? is specifically that kind of film.
Although hardly a viewer who doesn't consume this kind of cinema would try to pay any attention to it.

I don't think it's a bad film, far from it, but the primary reason I'm taking one star off is because I fervently believe this film shouldn't have been 170 minutes long.
That's where the pretentiousness and the ambition get out of hand for its director.

To be honest, I'm not sure what the title means for the film. I also want to emphasize that I hardly followed the thread of the main love story. It seemed like we were gossipers and saw everything from afar.
Nevertheless, the editing and the cinematography is quiet decent to the point of transporting us to an almost alternative reality, because it shows us quite daily activities, but that take place on the other side of the world and makes it even more interesting to appreciate. This was what I liked the most about the film, the world that surrounds the main characters.
