This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A FIRST TIME I AM GIVING '8' FOR ANY MOVIE!
ya, because it's my own countryman! but being such a skeptic, i seldom even watch local movies.
we loved ilo ilo so when this was on wet season ( by sudden discovery ) we were elated. anthony chen is a real master in movie making. each shot tells a thousand words. no melodrama. more like singaporean áng lee. ( btw i am really disappointed in ang lee, just watch Gemini man and u will know why).
yeo yann yann at last got her well deserving golden horse. this is a tough feat in asia coz we had to compete with the much more sophisticated taiwanese and hongkong powerhouse actors.
we loved all the parallism and nuances. why wet season? so many meaning to it. yann's expression of disgust and unrequited pleasure when she was raped, was so complicated to act. especially by a hunky minor. it must also be very difficult for the young boy to do the sex scene....
we can't imagine what the director must have gone thro to do the scene.
very hard show to watch but truly believable and in the end we emphatised. Masterful!!!!… Expand
