This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Funny how the Watchman morality tale was the case of art taking a life of it's own beyond the intentions of the author Alan Moore? For contrast I have read the comic and oof the author still really did write an epic backfire.

Rorschach the just man the immovable object vs the unstoppable force that is Dr Manhatten. "No compromise not even in the face of Armageddon". Which is basically not that we just survive/live, but how we survive and live matters the most. The things humans will just do to get by. Embrace the big lie of the hiding the murder of innocents for a presumed greater good. Then evil has no limits against the individual, because all that matters is the collective greater good. Watchman asks some really important and fundamental questions. How far can we go and how far should we go as a species just to survive/live on?

Oh and the film is beautifully shot, well acted for the most part, with kickass actions scenes and rounded off by a great music score.

The Owl-guy's acting kinda dissapoints sometimes but other than that... nothing.

Its pace may be too slow for many, the vibe too dark and gritty, but come on. This neo-noir hypnotical mystery sucks you in, and does not let you go, just because of its realism, even though it takes place in an alternate universe, that makes it even more thrilling. It has insanely deep characters, dramas, fantastic cinematography, and a superb cast. It is not a superhero film. It is ART. And gets an 8.5. Expand

The character of Rorschach is just awesome and fun to watch.
It took me some reading on the internet to have a better understanding of the movie psychological meaning but the plot is unexpected and it makes you think how sometimes our modern world 'IT'S ALL A JOKE'.

A gritty grounded take on caped crusaders based in a alternate 1985 America. The opening credit scene of this film, is one of the best you will ever witness in cinematic history. The film is absolutely stunning from start to finish.

My favorite moments in this film are;
1) Title Sequence 2) Prison scenes with Rorschach 3) Every scene with Dr Manhattan

My criticisms for this film are;
1) It got a tad slow in the middle 2) A giant squid would have been cool (Although, I had no issue with the ending of this film)

Honestly enjoyed this far more than I ever could've expected. I have to pinch myself sometimes that we love in a time where it would be possible for a filmmaker to come this close to reproducing the graphic novel to the big screen with so few compromises. I watch this annually and i highly recommend the extended cut which has a few extra scenes and the animated version of the comic (within a comic!).

Looking at this now, after over a decade of superhero box office domination;I firmly believe this is one of the best superhero movies ever made. With a mature, well written plot examining the genre and asking questions about how the concept of a superhero reflects on how we view human nature, the story raises interesting questions while exploring an interesting world and developing complex characters with meaningful flaws. The movie also has a great sense of style; with the specific choice of color, lighting, and shot composition, all mixed with some great editing making every scene visually interesting and satisfying to watch. Very tightly written, the film's plot feels fleshed out and meaningful while still including well choreographed action which only serves to service the plot instead of slow it down. While not fully living up to the original comic's greatness; Watchmen is still a superbly well directed film made by filmmakers who respect their source material and genuinely wanted to do it justice; placing the themes and quality of the story above marketability. As a deconstruction, this movie has aged fantastically given the over saturation of superhero films we've seen since its release. As a film however, it truly shines because it was made before this over-saturation set in. Modern SuperheroAs a deconstruction, this movie has aged fantastically given the over saturation of superhero films we've seen since its release. As a film however, it truly shines because it was made before this over-saturation set in. Modern Superhero deconstructions like "The Boys" largely exist just to reciprocate frustration with the genre's persistence. Meanwhile Watchmen was made at a time when Superhero Movies were rarer, before genre fatigue really set in. Because of this the film makes no sly nods to industry tropes or ever feels so self aware its disingenuous. instead the movie looks at the concept of superheroes as a literary archetype, and explores its implications. Unlike more modern deconstructions or parodies of the genre, it's about the actual themes of these stories, not the state of the industry. Beyond that, this is just an incredibly well written and directed film. Brimming with style and rugged charm, this movie is always enthralling and more often than not engaging. As far as I'm concerned it's still Zack Snyder's best work. Expand

Many of them were not pleased with this adaptation. Maybe because the extended DVD version was my first exposure to it, I am not in agreement with this view. (The DVD I had came with a video version of the comic, something which comic book purists probably also dislike, but I thought it was very cool.) Contrary to what the Alan Moore worshippers think, I thought this was excellent. This is up there among the weirdest and most visually exciting flicks ever. The story mixes both a dark, semi-realistic take on the super hero genre with alternate history. The tale is built up around 4 unforgettable characters: the Comedian (imagine if the Joker was one of the good guys, but retained his nasty nature), Dr. Manhattan (a super-superman created in a radioactive accident), Rorschach (an uncompromising crime fighter with a mask made up of ever shifting Rorschach ink blots), and Adrian Veidt (a cold genius who comes up with a unique and horrible way to save the human race from itself). One could complain about some unnecessary violence and the treatment of a couple of the female characters - point taken there - but this is still a festival of stunning imagery and unique storytelling. One of my friends had recently received the graphic novel as a present and he would often bring it. I was curious to know what the graphic novel was about, so I looked it up, and that's how I discovered this movie. I wasn't much into superhero genre before this, so I decided to take a look at it. Back then I thought this was a great story, and after having read the original graphic novel, I think it's a great adaptation.

In the opening scenes the Minutemen are summarised with the song "For the times they are a-changin'" playing in the background. It was so cool to watch. It doesn't matter whether you like Zack Snyder's movies or not. One thing you do have to admit is that his opening scenes are always awesome. And this one is the one that absolutely nails it.

The costumes have been made either very faithful to the comic book counterparts like those of Silk Spectre II and The Comedian, or have been improvised as in the case of Ozymandias and Night Owl II. Dr Manhattan's "thing" is surely a bit distracting, but I was able to ignore it after a while. Rorschach was my favourite character in this movie. The one criticism this movie gets is that he was portrayed to be a badass dude instead of a self centred hypocrite that he was in the graphic novel, and I completely understand this. But I also like this interpretation. Since most of the story is centred over Rorschach figuring out about The Comedian's death, he has to look as interesting as possible in order to keep the audience engaged.

Another criticism this movie often gets is that it was unable to capture the visual essense of the graphic novel, which I completely disagree with. The graphic novel has an 80's styled drawing. Why would you want this movie to be made with that style? It is a good thing that this movie didn't go for the same visual style. This criticism is the equivalent of "why Wolverine doesn't wear his comic book costume in the movies". Dude things have to be changed in order to be adapted on the big screen. It's also the reason why the giant squid was replaced with a nuclear bomb. A giant squid sounds very funny instead of serious. No country would take any big action in case that happens.

If you're watching this movie for the first time, I'd say you should try the Director's Cut first. If you have no problem with the length of the movie and you can see and understand everything that you see in complicated movies, I'd say you should go with the Ultimate Cut. I watched the Ultimate Cut. Initially I was bored because of how the story was dragging on, but slowly everything started to make sense. I really like all the action scenes in this movie, and often go back to watching it just for the old time's sake.

I read the comic ages ago, so I don't remember it well enough to say if this film is a faithful adaptation of it or not. I do remember the art style was very austere and realistic, while the movie chooses an aesthetic and style that are much more flamboyant (yet mega-gritty), including the action sequences. For some comic fans that might be a terrible sin. All I can say is the movie works for me, specially the ultimate cut with the animation segments.
I heard someone on youtube -can't remember who- say that while the comic was a commentary on superhero comics, this movie is a commentary on superhero movies, which does make sense when you think about it.

It does a near perfect job at encapsulating and reflecting the tone of the graphic novel and while the film starts of a tad slow it then grips you and makes you want more. The film is an amazing experience start to finish and does a great job at showing corruption in a world of super heroes and powered beings, it makes you think if you would really want to be in a world with caped crusaders. Of course being a film adaptation of a long graphic novel they had to change and leave some things but that doesn't really bother me because the film has some much attention to detail and call backs to the graphic novel. Zack Snyder even included very small lines from the graphic novel and incorporated them into the film giving you a very faithful and accurate adaptation. Currently planning on watching the three and a half hour Ultimate Cut and I expect I will enjoy that as well. Overall this is a darn near perfect adaptation of the brilliant graphic novel and a must see for any fans of the graphic novel or just to anyone who wants to see a dark super hero film. Expand

I watched just the day after binging the 12 Episodes of the original comic series. I mention this because I feel that your response to this movie depends very much on if you read the reference material before, and how long it was.
Because I didn't have time to idealize the Source Material and didn't make it a "Master Piece" in my mind I have to say that I see the movie to be very accurate to the source material. Yes, there are differences, and big ones, but I don't feel they make the end result worse than the original.
As they state in the RT's critics consensus, it might be that the story telling might be too thick to translate well to a movie. The movie has a lot of exposition and it probably won't be enough to people not familiar with the comic. But it happens that too in your first read of the comic. It comic is very thick, with all this characters and time jumping. Both mediums invite to a second reading/watching...
But as my experience goes, the movie is very well done, very stylish and entertaining. The even kept all the Pirate Comic storyline, that I was sure was the first thing to cut if you wanted to make the comic into a movie. I'm still not sure why it is there and what it add to the story as a whole (in both mediums), but it is well done and entertaining (only a little predictable).
I can't agree with the critics fiveish rating. is is more in the range of 8 for me.
If you know the comics, you already watched it, so you don't need my recommendation. If you didn't... I would advise to read them before watching it. It's only a 450 pages total, and it reads fast (I did in 2 summer afternoons).

Watchmen, this movie is just brilliant. The movie's got an amazing plot twist, which is built up so well. The cast's acting throughout this movie is pretty solid and so is the dialogue, the dialogue is really good.

Also, the action sequences throughout this movie are very graphic, brutal and gory but they're outstandingly good, especially that prison cell scene.

The cinematography from Larry Fong is pretty good and he captures the scenes pretty well, either that being a scene with the main characters or a graphic action sequence.

Finally, the movie's got a great soundtrack, I think that's another positive for this movie, it's got some amazing songs from start to finish.

The only two negative's, I've got with this movie would have to be why does Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) sound so much like Batman throughout this movie, don't get me wrong he's a brilliant character throughout this movie but why does he sound so much like Batman.

The final negative, I've got with this movie would have to be, why the **** did they use Simon and Garfunkel - The Song Of Silence. The song doesn't make you feel sad at all, all it does, is that it makes you feel the complete opposite. It makes you laugh instead of feel upset, the reason being for this is because on how much it's been memed to death, lol.

Overall, Watchmen is a brilliant movie. The movie's got an amazing plot twist, pretty solid acting, great dialogue, very graphic and brutal action sequences. The movie's also got some pretty good cinematography and it's even got a great soundtrack. It's honestly worth the watch, I'd highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys very graphic and brutal movie's with an amazing plot twist.

The fight scenes are brilliantly choreographed into a hyper-reality. Although the score is a little misplaced and the ending differs, this film really does do justice to the graphic novel, which I have read many times. It's a shame critics shat on this, as they did with Batman vs Superman. Expand

Simplesmente espetacular!

Enfim, totalmente recomendado.

Even if many people (and Alan Moore himself) are convinced that the graphic novel is the best and only possible medium for this story, it doesn't give the film less value. It had to adapt something, and it did in a coherent way.
The most important feature of the graphic novel, three-dimensional characters and philosophy guiding their action, is maintained. The core message is maintained. Many bad reviews come from either people who did not appreciate the graphic novel (hard to imagine, but they exist), or from overly-affectionate fans of it.
It is a ground-breaking superhero movie, cleverly adapted form a ground-breaking graphic novel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Watchmen surpases even the dark knight but unfortunately its one of the most underrated movies of the 2000's. With its very complex narative storytelling and slow burn this movie makes into a superhero masterpiece. The fight scenes are very stylish and its the only superhero movie I ever saw that doesnt have a villain. Ozymandias' plan is to detonate nuclear bombs all over the world and blame doctor manhattan so that the world Unite against him. Poate based on a lie, but peace. Doctor manhatan leaves earth. THe biggest problem is that I should stat with pg13 movies cause I'm not old enough to watch even a mild R but I still loved this movie. Expand

Sure, for a person not already familiar with the material, it might be hard to understand and follow the complex narrative of this film. But after multiple viewings it becomes better and better, especially when you watch the director's cut and the ultimate cut. The visuals in this movie, similar to all Zack Snyder films, are exhilarating. The actors do an exceptional job, Jackie Earle Haley and Jeffrey Dean Morgan stand out the most as Rorschach and The Comedian. The fight scenes are gleefully bloody and very well choreographed, and the direction is very sharp and tense. The overall atmosphere is amazingly depicted, the situation in the movie feels extremely realistic. One of my favorite superhero films of all time. Expand

Expand

In the mid-’80s, writer Alan Moore began to imagine a world in which the superheroes and costumed crime-fighters he’d grown up reading helped shape the Cold War decades that had repeatedly brought humanity to the brink of extinction. ItIn the mid-’80s, writer Alan Moore began to imagine a world in which the superheroes and costumed crime-fighters he’d grown up reading helped shape the Cold War decades that had repeatedly brought humanity to the brink of extinction. It wasn’t a better world. Behind their masks and glowing eyes, the heroes Moore conceived and created with artist Dave Gibbons were hindered, and occasionally crippled, by the same conflicting impulses, childhood traumas, and redirected neuroses that drive everyone else. Moore and Gibbons’ graphic novel Watchmen helped redefine the types of stories superheroes could be used to tell, not just by freighting them with darkness—too many subsequent creators showed how easy that could be—but by weaving their capes and gadgets into a dense, deep narrative: a detective story played out against the apocalypse in a world so thoroughly realized that Charles Dickens would be jealous.

The same elements that make Watchmen a great book made a Watchmen film a difficult prospect. (Moore, on principle, removed himself and his name from the project, which probably didn’t help.) It’s remarkable that any Watchmen movie made it to the screen, after the years of false starts and litigation. And the one we got—directed by Zack Snyder, most recently responsible for the ably made, philosophically dubious Frank Miller adaptation 300—deserves credit for staying true to the characters, plot (up to a point), and look of the original material while still generating his own kind of energy. Sometimes that energy feels misapplied and overcranked, as the roar of the action drowns out the film’s human voices, but Snyder’s Watchmen keeps moving so assuredly, it’s nearly impossible not to get swept along.

Keeping Moore’s alternate-universe ’80s New York setting, Watchmen opens with the murder of The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a long-serving crime-fighter with a late-career sideline in covert ops. (The film keeps Moore’s dark joke that electing Nixon to multiple terms is one of his world’s problems.) A masked vigilante named Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley)—the only one who didn’t hang up his disguise when the government outlawed civilian crime-fighters in the mid-’70s—launches an investigation and uncovers a much larger conspiracy, one seemingly tied to mounting nuclear tensions between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R., as well as a bunch of Rorschach’s old colleagues. These include the Silk Spectre (Malin Akerman), who inherited the title from her mother (Carla Gugino); Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson) a bookish, wealthy master of machines; Ozymandias (Matthew Goode), who’s since turned his remarkable intellect to acquiring wealth and power; and Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup), a lab-accident-created glowing godlike being whose connection to humanity remains an open question.

There’s sometimes too much Dr. Manhattan in Snyder’s Watchmen, which often feels like a feat of engineering first, an artistic expression second. But his source material keeps him grounded, as does solid work from Crudup, Wilson, and especially Haley, whose performance evokes pity, fear, sympathy, and revulsion as he goes about his single-minded pursuit of justice without compromise. Others bring less. Given a central role, the lightweight Akerman serves as an Andie MacDowell-in-Four-Weddings-And-A-Funeral-level distraction, and Snyder isn’t always well-served by his tendency to start at 11 and try to turn up the volume, particularly in a bunch of over-the-top, bone-cracking action scenes. The time spent developing watchmen-fu would have been better invested in not blowing one of the book’s big Mars setpieces, or figuring out a better alternate ending than the one dropped in the original’s place.

And yet in the end, the film’s ambitious drive to create a dread-soaked alternate America and people it with flawed, recognizable heroes carries it along. Snyder uses grand gestures to create a sense of world-imperiling doom rooted in another era, but equally at home in this one. But he also remains willing to slow down to capture the gravity of a funeral, or dwell on a moment between old partners patching up a friendship as doomsday approaches. Moore’s touch emphasizes how messed-up and needy comic-book people would have to be to do what they do. Missteps and all, Snyder’s film gets that right, and this as well: When we look up in the sky, we don’t see a bird or a plane, but a mirror.

For those of you unaware of the plot, it is a compelling film noir mystery thriller about a group of people who become superheroes, are then used by the US government to fight its enemies and are later discarded by the US government. One of the group was murdered and the others start investigating we he had to die.

Interesting about the back story is that both the socio-political climate and characters are well-developed and realistic. The use of superheroes by the US allowed the Sovjetunion and US to become more polarized than in our reality, making the US government far more conservative and bringing the world very close to nuclear holocaust. The superheroes all have their own unique character traits, each based on real and flawed human beings like I've met in my own life. What's most interesting about the plot of Watchmen is the way these different personalities interact with one another and how they set themselves apart from the rest of humanity.

What sets this film apart from other films, however, is an audiovisual style few people besides Zack Snyder could actually pull off. The visuals are simply breathtaking throughout the entire film and the audio adds to the atmosphere the way only a few other films can. Watching the film, I feel immersed in a surreal dream and the first time I sat glued to my chair for the entire duration because of the sheer beauty of the visuals, the interesting plot and the fascinating characters.

Maybe the graphic novel was even more compelling as the film plot-wise, I don't think anyone could have done a better job making a film based on the graphic novel. Please remember that graphic novel and film are two different media and you'll never be able to tell the entire story of a multiple edition graphic novel into a single film, however you'll also never be able to control the pacing, acting and soundtrack of a graphic novel. It is my opinion that those who didn't like this film either ignore the differences between the two different media and are frustrated by the film straying from the graphic novel more often than they would like or simply didn't get the story and lost interest due to their confusion. After seeing this film several time, I can't really find anything not to like about this film.

Watchmen is great with action sequences and an Ok story, and most of the cast over did the roles except for Jackie Earl Hallie who played as Rorschach gave the performance of his career. All the costumes were spot on from the comic book which made me happy that they at least got something perfect and so close to perfection, and the film's long running times made thing a little more difficult as the Ultimate Cut of the film reaches 4 Hours, but despite of all of the mistakes, it is a worthy comic book adaptation worth watching. A great film. A much more "depressing" film in a way, depicting the fall of a bunch of Superheroes from their hey-day, and strikes elements that could be of a very psychological nature as well.

What would such people be like or have turned out like if they had been such people indeed? The bads and goods among them. The reality to them being human as well, emotions, and what not.

The despair of trying to save a broken world perhaps also makes it even more depressing. This is generally the tone the film goes for and it does it well.

Add more philosophical questions and plot-themes and some small twists, and feels great to watch this film, especially when alone. It has some funny looking visuals at some points, depicted after the comics of-course, and does has that film noir feel to it running at a great pace, with enough mystery sprinkled here and there that a true superhero film-goer should appreciate for the simple fact alone that it is a completely different take to your average superhero film.

Simply a great addition to a shelf of films.

The story is always surprising, and there are some very funny scenes. Not something to show to kids, though. It's darker (way darker) than the Dark Knight, and contains scenes of extremely graphic and/or psychological violence that are always justified. Don't expect comforting characters and a happy end either. The characters are almost all **** (and all actors are perfect in their roles, even though none of them are really famous) and the ending... well, it's just so clever and unexpected, without coming from nowhere. And also: The soundtrack is perfect. Expand

Ok back to the review if you are fan of the comic you will be disappointed I read the book a week before I saw the movie on blu ray. The story is fanatic very close to the comic only 1 or 2 bits that won't in the comic. The movie has heavy themes to the point you see some nearly getting raped. The movie is not the bad and it has made it on my favourite movies of all time at number 4 but it is worth a look at. Expand

Watchmen is one of those rare anomalies that, despite it's amazing story, characters and setting, could never work as a film. The sharp, juxtaposition of panels and storylines in the comic is something so stylized and unique that it could only succeed in a written medium. As a film, it loses its punch. The pacing doesn't always feel right and, for me, the characters were always more interesting when I read the comics and shaped their voice and movement myself rather than an actor portraying them.
My advice: read the comic, you'll love it. If you're desperate, check out this film. However, I feel that as the comic works so well on its own, the film does nothing to interest me further than what I already loved about the grand universe of Watchmen.

Cons:
-Music at times is really off putting and just awkwardly placed, for example the sassy scene on the film.
-Pasting at times is too fast too slow, depending on what is happening
-Some of the amazing set peaces from the comic book that really embrace the overall impact humanization are left out from the film, which is very upsetting
-Really, Really cheesy at times

Even though the film overextends its welcome and has a tenacity to assert its political themes as often as possible, its graphic violence, durable characters, and stunning depiction of an unscrupulous alternate Earth more than compensate.

Though it overstays its welcome slightly, at more than 2 1/2 hours long, the film hits a bulls-eye with what it tries to achieve: a superhero movie with a dark and mature atmosphere.

What makes Watchmen so great is that it's one of very few comic adaptions that's almost entirely true to it's source material. It's about 98% accurate. That's what makes this film as good as the cult classic graphic novel.

Anyone who's read my reviews of comic book-inspired movies knows I've neverYes, I've read Watchmen. And yes, I do believe it is one of the most interesting, involving, thought-provoking, mind-blowing books I've ever read of any genre. Anyone who's read my reviews of comic book-inspired movies knows I've never claimed to be a comic book fan. I usually steer clear of the medium, but Watchmen was a must-read (actually a must-read over and over). And being a Watchmen fan going into Warner Bros Pictures' and Zack Snyder's film adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' critically acclaimed work, I had high hopes for this feature film based on what's widely regarded as unfilmable source material. Did Snyder's cinematic vision live up to expectations? Absolutely. Snyder and writers David Hayter and Alex Tse had to lose portions of the graphic novel (which first appeared as a comic book series in the mid-1980s) in order to condense the story into a reasonable running time and comprehensible narrative. They also had the difficult task of making the film accessible to those who haven't read Watchmen without trampling on the dreams of Watchmen fans who've been waiting decades for a movie based on Moore and Gibbons' characters. Watchmen fans must realize going in that this is not a panel by panel adaptation in the vein of 300. That would have been an impossible endeavor given the richness and sheer depth of the graphic novel. As such, important portions of Watchmen have been left out. Failing to make the cut in the feature film are any mentions of Tales of the Black Freighter (an animated short is being released separately on DVD) and Hollis Mason's Under the Hood. And Watchmen the movie relegates the past members of the Minutemen to mere fleeting glimpses in the film's marvelously inventive opening credits (one of the best lead-ins to a film I can recall). The ending's also been drastically tweaked. But all that aside, most importantly, the message, the tone, and the six central characters have made the leap to the big screen nearly completely intact. Alan Moore used Watchmen as a way to deconstruct the superhero genre while at the same time reflecting on world issues. What sacrifices would we be willing to make in order to save the world from itself? Does the end justify the means, if it entails the loss of life in order to stop a nuclear war? Watchmen is set in an alternate 1980's reality in which presidential term limits are no longer enforced and the Doomsday Clock is closer than ever to striking midnight as the United States and Russia move toward nuclear war. In this twisted world, costumed vigilantes once worked side by side with law enforcement. Known as the Minutemen, these crime-fighters didn't have any special powers, just the desire to clean up the streets. As the original group aged and moved on, a new wave of costumed crime-fighters popped up. This new group (the Crimebusters) followed in the footsteps of the Minuteman, rounding up bank robbers and murderers, all without the backing of the power of a badge. But the tide eventually turned and costume-wearing vigilantes were forced into retirement with the passage of the Keene Act (the film glosses over this part of the story). After the passage of the Keene Act, Dr Manhattan and The Comedian, a ruthless, morally bankrupt, cold-blooded killer, are allowed to continue to work with/work for the government. Rorschach, another member of the team, continues to hunt down villains but does so unofficially, outside the confines of the law. Although Snyder and company serve up backstories by way of flashbacks, most of the action in the movie Watchmen takes place following the murder of The Comedian. Rorschach becomes driven to find the truth behind who killed The Comedian (someone he holds in high regard despite his despicable acts). In order to ferret out the killer and find out if whoever it is is targeting costumed vigilantes and for what purpose, Rorschach pulls his old crime-fighting compadres out of retirement. As Rorschach, Nite Owl II, and Silk Spectre II dig into this plot to kill all 'superheroes', they uncover a conspiracy the depths of which they never anticipated upon hearing the news of The Comedian's murder.
Watchmen is not a film for everyone and it won't connect with audiences looking for the standard superhero genre flick. Watchmen is unflinchingly violent, there's nudity (Dr Manhattan's penis is right there in your face even if you blink, you won't miss it), raw sex, and there's none of the lighthearted superhero-type moments in this that we've come to expect from major motion picture adaptations of comic books. Watchmen presents a world in which actions have real consequences and they're not necessarily pretty, and if people were in fact superheroes, they'd be warped and in desperate need of some serious therapy. This film's gritty and nasty and you want to wash your hands when you're done watching it. But I'm betting after just one screening of the film, you'll think more about Watchmen than any other comic book/graphic novel-inspired movie you've ever witnessed.

Amazing adaptation from the original Graphic Novel written by Allan Moore.
The movie is extremely loyal to the original comic by respecting each character personality, and charm, even the actors used in the film (wich are really good at recreating each character) look like if they just take them straight out of the original Graphic Novel both in dialog and physically.
Even then the movie has his fair share of flaws, the most common consist on just how a couple of scenes that are similar from the Graphic Novel can be much more violent in the movie,
when most of the time there is not a reason on why they would make them that way, the whole atmosphere in wich these scenes take place is already shocking it can transmit the feeling of how important and brutal certain moments of the movie are,
so when they finally come out and add someone chopping off the arms of someone else with a chainsaw, it quite breaks the entire atmosphere of the movie.
There are also a couple of really important moments that are removed from the original Graphic Novel.
For me personally the moments that were removed didn't really affect the flow of the film and they never really leaved me with a tasteless movie experience but i know that fans of the original novel may resent these changes made into the film just like i resent the over the top notch graphic unnecessary violence in some giving the fact that they don't stay true to the novel and,
"in my opinion" can break the flow of the experience.
ha i guess you can also take that as me being one that loved the graphic novel just as much as i loved the film.
