I'm increasingly of the opinion that reviewers are being bought and reviews are astroturfed.

This was a really boring movie with weakly developed characters, a pointlessly downbeat setting and overly angst ridden in general. The first 2 reboot movies were innovative, clever, well acted and scripted, had plausible characters, both ape and human and had real conflicts at their centres.

This has a few secondary characters who get a ton of screen time for absolutely minor plot points, implausible scenes aplenty and ridiculous deus ex machina resolutions.

Terrible movie. I can't believe they spent over 150m dollars on this turd.

While there is certainly style to appreciate here, some impressive cinematography and special effects, War for the Planet of the Apes is not a "great" movie. After seeing the first two movies in the series, and the critical reception leading up to the third's release, I was expecting great things. But instead, I found myself incredibly bored and disappointed by a 2.5 hour runtime with frequent filler, constant failed attempts at emotional investment, and a painfully shallow philosophical component. I really hate saying stuff like this at the risk of coming across as pretentious, but this movie is trying to be an accessible Apocalypse Now or 2001: A Space Odyssey, and instead it is bland, predictable and does not deserve the praise it has been getting. I will note that it isn't an outright bad movie, we have enough of those nowadays for me to know the difference. But it definitely isn't special. Expand

This is a tedious boring movie. It played like a melodrama, developing sympathy for the apes and disgust for humans. No thanks. Don't waste your time.

There are many aspects of the movie that I am disappointed with. What's with the introduction of Steve Zahn's character? So needless and such a waste of the run time. Same with the mute girl that they find. Both are pretty much used as plot devices to further things along and offer little to no substance to the film. Zahn's character was the Jar Jar Binks of this film, Totally and utterly needless comic relief.

Now as for the plot itself, It makes sense all the way up to the climax. We are cheated out of an epic fight between hero and villain. Everything miraculously works in favor of the apes. That felt like a very cheap way out to me, A watered down ending to carry on the series now that Serkis and Reeves are done with it.

Are apes really better than people? Ever since the groundbreaking science-fiction novel was written by French author Pierre Boulle, we have questioned whether evolution will come to bite back at our dysfunctional political structure. ApesAre apes really better than people? Ever since the groundbreaking science-fiction novel was written by French author Pierre Boulle, we have questioned whether evolution will come to bite back at our dysfunctional political structure. Apes have yet to outsmart us idiotic humans, but now the last addition to the widely-praised reboot makes our future clearer.

War for the Planet of the Apes first gives us a recap of the last two films, explaining the RISE and the DAWN that led us to the WAR between apes and humans. Like most summer movies, CGI composes basically every single frame here. Although comparatively speaking, each ape design is distinctly detailed to move in the proper ape mannerism. From a distance, the apes look more like they belong in the PS4; up close, the light hits their skin perfectly: you could almost reach out to wipe the orangutan’s tears.

Many cast members here have returned from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes; while computers cloak their entire figure, the power in their eyes remain untouched to communicate true sincere pain. They speak either one word at a time or using American Sign Language, greeting one another with pressed foreheads rather than a familiar hug. The little actions they make will make you wonder how you could understand so much about another species apart from your own.

The rebellious species’ familiar leader, Caesar, continues being the most powerful asset of the franchise thanks to the stern performance by Andy Serkis. Now, Caesar can speak in mostly complete sentences, further motivating his fear for his own followers. However, his motivation to fight as revenge for the death of his family comes off rather weak; we’ve seen the scenario countless times before to much greater effect. Aside from Caesar, plenty of other complex characters hold the story up on its two-pawed feet, even if some key roles feel more underused than the smaller roles.
One of the smaller characters who gets a little more screen-time than he deserves is one of the few speaking apes, “Bad Ape,” terrifically played by Steve Zahn as he moves us one minute and cracks us up the next; the tension he adds grounds us into reality. Yet he also leans too much upon comic relief and too little upon being an actual character in a war movie. Think K-2SO in Rogue One, except a bit more useful.

As a war movie, director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) compromises the real brutality of a holocaust concentration camp for a suitable PG-13 rating. The true horrific moments come out from the details: several ape traitors join the humans as they rally up the other apes into cages to starve, the words “Ape-pocalypse Now” deface the underground chambers, an X-shaped torture device reminiscing crucifixion taunts the apes daily—it all lands on Caesar as he takes a whipping by his own kind just because he stood up for the apes’ rights.

Unfortunately, no perfection exists in this interpretation of a potential future, as it is ruled under a stereotypically evil ruler who likes to monologue about his past. It also makes no sense why the end of mankind would only affect the US. Considering these ape species originated from Africa and Southeast Asia, adding those governments into the scheme would have added some realism to a potential WWIII.

But one new character does bring out the deepest hope for humanity despite our inability to communicate. We get to meet Nova as a child, unable to speak, and brought alongside Caesar’s colleagues. Her introduction alone mesmerizes you: After breaking into a human’s home, one of these apes, the orangutan, notices Nova asleep in her bed. He returns her doll to her, slowly, keeping a curious gaze upon her gentle nature. Their silent eye-to-eye exchange brings the needed tension breaker during the endless line of heat. Her spectacular moments do not stop there, as she sees beauty in the harsh tribulation blind to her new ape friends. She looks past the snow to glance at the beauty of pink blossoms in the tree above. More characters like her need to be made for the screen, as someone so young of so few words can teach us grown men more than we realize about reconsidering our actions.

So in conclusion, War for the Planet of the Apes gives the Planet of the Apes franchise what it needed all along. It unrighteously continues to be detrimental to the humanity we can produce, yet still gives a satisfactory exploration of the value in communication much like what Arrival masterfully explored. Even if we already know how this movie will end, the impact of what so far is the best movie of the summer stands clear. You will be shocked from how much in common you share with these nonhumans fighting against ourselves, just further proof why apes are the most beautiful creatures in the animal kingdom.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Biggest pile of drivel i have seen this year and im not trolling.
Did i watch a different movie to these other morons ? Characters are about as cliche as you can get! mummy ape, funny ape ... The most dumbest group of Human Militia you could ever imagine... I mean WTF ha ha ha ha who places massive base exploding silos right where your army and base is especially when the big "final" battle is coming.
Did they not check there was a massive tunnel system that goes right under the base that conveniently goes under all the cells ?!?
How can you not see a thousand apes climb out of these cages? What was the disease the little girl had ? Worst woody performance yet he didnt want to be there.
i could go on and on ..
But yet you will all keep giving it 10s.

This one puts even more emphasis on the drama, almost to the exclusion of any big battles. Caesar fights back against a human army (led by Woody Harrelson), but there's more heart-felt conversation and sneaking around than full out fighting. That being said, the animation of the apes is even more impressively effective in conveying emotions (led by another remarkable performance from Andy Serkis). While much of the interactions are compelling, almost every scene plays out too long. Once again, Michael Seresin's cinematography turns some stunning locations into beautiful images and the simian characterizations are enthralling. While Matt Reeves' distinctive directorial vision is engrossing and at times unique, it's more about emotion than action. (This much ape interaction means lots of subtitles to translate their hairy gestures.) Expand

This is Reeves' Ape series at it's most emotional and powerful. The performances and motion capture are still in top form. There's even Steve Zahn this time around to give Andy Serkis a run for his money in both categories. It's got the bombastic energy of an action film, the brutality of a serious war movie, and the heart and soul of a compelling human drama. This conclusion to the Reeves trilogy is excellent and hands down the best of the reboots. While the door is left open for more to potentially come from the series in the future, War is good enough to serve as the conclusion of the Apes films. It's satisfying and a whole heck of a lot deeper than what typically comes to theaters these days. It does a lot you wouldn't expect. The one sour note is that Woody Harrelson's villain feel a bit underused. Yet, he's still given a satisfying arc. This has been one heck of a ride.

This movie starts off with a bang and continues for about 40 minutes until we reach the second half of the movie and i have to admit it is an absolute slog to get through. Dont get me wrong the ending in my opinion makes up for the horribly boring scenes in the middle. Perhaps the best reason to watch this movie is the incomparable acting by Andy Serkis, who again rises above anything else in the movie and proves to be the most essential asset of this franchise. A sweet surprise is also the direction of Matt Reeves who truly takes us back to old fashioned film making with beautiful shots and amazing performances. Finally the score of this movie by Michael Giacchino is absolutely breathtaking and excels at every chance it gets to shine. Overall the start and ending help this movie to become a true experience. War for the Planet of the Apes didn't capture me like the rest of the films in the trilogy, but it still manages to be a good film even if not on the same level of its predecessors. Unlike Rise or Dawn that tackled current topics in the worldWar for the Planet of the Apes didn't capture me like the rest of the films in the trilogy, but it still manages to be a good film even if not on the same level of its predecessors. Unlike Rise or Dawn that tackled current topics in the world like gun control, War makes symbolic references to the bible and slavery. These aren't subtle references either they're very obvious instead unlike Dawn's were with gun control. This movie also tries to add humor into a series of movies that never really touched humor to begin with. This in turn makes the jokes fall flat, and they rely on one ape that just turns out to be more annoying than funny. There's one thing for sure though, and that is the apes in this movie have never looked so good. The CGI in this film is worth the price of admission alone. Andy Serkis and Woody Harrelson do a fantastic job as the leads in this movie, and you can really feel the tension when these two leaders interact with each other on screen. In the end War for the Planet of the Apes acts as the "swan song" in Cesar's journey. Although it didn't reach the heights of its predecessors it is still a fitting conclusion to one of the best movie trilogies of the decade. Expand

Worse then that, it changed the original premise of the apes movie history...it made humans the aggressor. In the original series and stories, man destroyed itself allowing for evolution to be in the apes' favor. Even worse than that, this movie is political and represents the pure hatred of the Hollywood liberals against humans and specifically Americans. They even play the anthem during a bloody scene of Americans killing apes. Walked out before it ended for all these reasons. Hollywood got rich from Americans and our culture. They are a disgrace for hating Americans and human-kind in general. Worst film of the year by far....not even entertaining despite all the politics. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved previous parts of Apes but this one no - not really. Plot spoilers ahead so be warned. Whole idea of virus mutation was OK for me. It explains nicely why in those ‘future ape world’ from old movies Apes believed that humans are dumb and cannot speak. And as in the beginning virus was responsible for messing with brain (curing Alzhaimer) than dumbing down as mutation effect is even acceptable for me. But basically it’s the ONLY thing that I can accept in this movie. In previous part we had group of survivals that created colony and cannot reach any other ones for months until end of the movie. Now we hear about at least 2 full functional military outposts full of professional soldiers! Around 20 battle helicopters? This means at least 20 professional pilots, this means professional service teams able to fix and conserve them for 25 years! This means hundreds of tank crew members, SAM and LRM turret operators, and so on, etc. So what the hell? Was military personnel not affected by virus? Why? Or they were, most of them died out but survivors started to train EVERYBODY as weapon specialists? How could this be rational decision in post-apocalyptic world where people just got sick and died (maybe if it would be alien invasion but here???) How could they have resources for this to be functional? Where is farming? Who is feeding so many military personnel (that has to train and fix machinery). And colonel base was like essence of ridiculousness. Fuel tanks next to defence line? Building wall from stone and wood against missiles??? Or was he not aware that they will have helicopters, rifles and tanks? But how could he if they were working together until he started murdering sick people? And placing military outpost next to mountain that can cause avalanche? How this could happen? How come this never happened in the past? Was it first snowy winter in 50 years? This was just plin dumb. There were also a lot of smaller plot holes to name only few:
-little girl wandering unseen into military camp and wandering from cage to cage
-virus able to survive in minus temperatures on cloth doll and still able to infect uninjured healthy person (why the hell everybody is not sick yet if he is so deadly?)
-Ape waterfall camp found thanks to what?
- guard with keys going into prison cell with strong and mobile creatures not informing anyone because someone throwed facies at him? Was he dumbed down by sickness already?
But none of those smaller plot holes are making whole world unrealistic and unbelievable as those bigger problems do. And previous parts had good believable world! Why they needed to dumb it down, why this comedy sidekick was needed?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Andy Serkis and Woody Harrelson are excellent and the CGI is solid. Those are the positives. The movie just doesn't add anything to the trilogy outside of providing an ending and even then it's just not satisfying. The trailer, poster, and title are all misleading. They frame the story as Caeser seeking revenge, a mysterious young girl, and a desperate final battle between man and ape. That epic showdown between The Colonel's humans and Caeser's apes never comes. The opening scene is strong and makes you think the war is raging, but about half an hour in the human/ape conflict seems to fall by the wayside. Yeah the humans still hate the apes, but the "War for the Planet of the Apes" for this movie is human vs. human with apes around. There are a lot of tight, claustrophobic shots but as the lack of real conflict becomes more apparent, it just comes off as cheap tension. There are also a lot of awkwardly long shots of characters as they stare at each other and make "tough" decisions even though the audience knows exactly how each one will turn out. They're meant to make it more dramatic but you just want it to be done already. Outside of Woody Harrelson's Colonel, the new characters aren't worth the time. The movie would be the same whether or not the little girl was there (minus some shallow philosophical questions) and Bad Ape brings plot holes and is just a groan to watch. He's entertaining if you liked Jar Jar Binks. Very disappointing overall. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you're bleeding from the nose, you'll find this movie amazing, sensitive and emotionally captivating.
If the Simian Flu still hasn't affected you, then you'll see this movie a cheap and boring passover+shoah knockoff, marred by political manifestos that stiff the plot and slow it down to a crawl. The CGI was amazing, although if you're not under the virus' influence yet, I suggest you watch the first 25 minutes, stop there and go read the following plot summary:
"A military faction led by the ruthless Colonel McCullough goes to war with Caesar and his clan of apes. Following a betrayal by one of his own, Caesar loses his wife and oldest son at the hands of the Colonel. Caesar sets off to get revenge, being aided by three of his fellow apes.
On their journey, Maurice adopts a mute girl that he later names Nova. They also encounter another ape that can talk, Bad Ape, who helps the apes find the Colonel's camp. Caesar is captured along with the rest of his clan as they are forced to build a wall to keep out McCullough's enemies, another military faction coming for him as they know he is killing off apes and humans who are regressing as a result of the Simian Flu.

Maurice, Rocket, and Bad Ape all help dig through an underground tunnel for the apes to escape, just as the other military faction arrives to start killing McCullough's soldiers. Caesar goes to kill the Colonel himself, but he finds McCullough in a degenerative state as well, and he cannot bring himself to kill him anymore. The Colonel commits suicide and Caesar goes to rejoin the apes, but he is hit with an arrow by one of the Colonel's soldiers. An ape named Red who worked with the humans then redeems himself by killing that soldier and helping Caesar get out, even as Red is executed for what he did.

The Colonel's men are killed when Caesar blows up a fuel tank, and the enemy soldiers are killed when an avalanche comes down, but the apes and Nova survive by climbing up trees.

The apes make it to a new home, but Caesar is dying from his wound. After Maurice assures him that his youngest son will be safe and know how heroic his father was, Caesar dies peacefully."
And please, whatever you do, DO NOT PAY MONEY FOR THIS MOVIE!

"This is our last stand. And if we lose... it will be a Planet of Apes".

"War for the Planet of the Apes" has many intriguing plot points and plenty of great opportunities to shine as a great movie. I mean, with the previous two films that I liked so much and how the effects manage to improve over time is amazing. And this movie is worth seeing just for Andy Serkis performance and the incredible also realistic effects. Unfortunately, the rest is very uneven. While being a decent third installment, but draws the oldest cliches from the books.

Andy Serkis continues to impress us not just by giving us another great performance, but to convey all the emotions with his body and face while being coved with heavy effects. Serkis is the only actor that we think as expressed all of his range, but keeps surprising us with the characters he plays.

Speaking of effects, it's pretty much the stand out of the film. Despite knowing what we are seeing in front of us is CGI, but the illusion is so good, we forgot it's fiction. It really has involved over the years and we are also there to perfection.

The action scene at the beginning was pretty good. A little bit cheesy with all the slow-mo and people dramatically dying everything with music in the background, but I guess you got to start with a bang.

I think Caesar getting captured and locked up in that prison is when the film fell apart for me. Yep, it's a prison break movie and that isn't a bad thing, just needed to be more sharper in terms of its' execution. The movie goes way overboard with the Jesus, Nazi allegories, and Holocaust imagery. Yeah, I'm not making that up. So heavy handed it's impossible to miss. You could add "Apocalypse Now" in the mix with the small references to it, because why not. It's like whoever wrote this kept shouting at me "get it?".

The comedic relief ape character (Bad Ape) and the little girl are the most pointless characters in a movie ever. I didn't laugh at anything the Bad Ape did that was suppose to be funny. The little girl didn't do anything.

Woody Harrelson as the villain was fine. There's a long monologue about him talking this virus and how it involved. What could have been an interesting and also menacing scene, quickly goes on a little too long. I don't have an issue with Harrelson performance, just if the character was written better.

There's a really stupid moment in the movie when a guard gets **** thrown at him by the apes and tries to find who did it. So he literally locks himself in the cage filled with millions of apes and doesn't inform the other guards, just in case they might attack him. Like, how freaking stupid to you have to be? And you can tell what's going to happen. It was written in the movie just for the apes to escape and it's so lazy.

There seem to be a lack of security guards in the prison, because when a little girl manages to walk straight in without anyone see her, now that's questionable. Or notice when the apes escaped. Like how many guards are there? People are calling this a masterpiece?

Overall Rating: While it may seem like I disliked the film, that couldn't be further to the truth. I'm not saying it's a bad movie or anything, because it's not. There are plenty of good and well done scenes that makes me curious what Matt Reeves will bring to "The Batman".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For the most part, I liked the scenes where the apes communicated with one another, especially the middle of the movie where Cesar and his small band of loyal followers roam the countryside, meeting an endearing child along the way and a quirky, comic relief ape who's desperate for company after years of being alone. What I didn't like were the action scenes and a lot of stand off moments between Cezar and a sadistic, xenophobe, power mongerer Colonel that take place in a concentration camp. All the soldiers in this movie come across as fresh recruits, trained playing Call of Duty and watching Rambo movies. In the beginning they're seen charging up a hill into spears and gun fire, firing heat resistant guns on full auto with endless clips, hucking an absurd amount of smoke grenades for dramatic effect, and not even bothering to seek cover unless they're a recurrent character. For me, it all comes off as really ridiculous. These dummy soldiers also pulled off some spectacularly idiotic stunts, like having a wood wall built right beside a couple of completely unprotected, giant gas tanks. Hmmm, I wonder what could go wrong? They're also completely inept at guarding their own base. A little girl just casually walks into the middle of the compound with no one noticing. And at night, there's only 1 apparent guard overlooking the huge, ape containment enclosure located right in the middle of the base, despite there being several other guard towers and well over a 100 soldiers seen marching around during the day. And to top it all off, the 1 guard tasked with watching over the ape pen gets baited into it by having poop thrown at him. No, seriously. He goes in there all by himself.. And what happens? You'll never guess. They knock him out and escape! Ha ha! Who knew, eh? Also, only 1 dude notices they escaped later on. There's a lot of similarities in the movie that appear to intentionally mirror Nazism and the American civil war. The apes are kept captive in a concentration camp, where they're starved and subjected to forced labor by building a wall to protect the military base from an approaching Northern army. The movie's villain, a rogue army Colonel, basically does his version of the SS officer from Schindler's list, except a little more PG. His troops are brought out into the courtyard on a couple of occasions, where they line up in formation and chant fascist sentiments. While the comparisons were a bit on the nose, they were ultimately what gave a bit of weight to the movie. Hard not to hate Nazi's. Of course, there are a lot of scenes where the Colonel and Cesar have dick measuring contests, where Cesar always ultimately gets beat down while his people powerlessly watch him suffer in a similar manner as to what occurred in Japanese WW2 concentration camps. I personally felt there were too many of these scenes and they just dragged out too long. I get it, Cesar is powerless, the Colonel is a dick and Cezar's gonna keep getting his ass kicked until a dumb guard lets them all out. There's no need to make it so repeatably long and over the top dramatic. I'd say the CGI was actually pretty good for most parts, especially slow dialogue scenes and facial expressions. The action scenes were where it could get a little comically wonky. For instance, there's a scene where Cesar roles out of the way of gun fire, (with the bullets naturally flying in a circle around him), and it just looks ridiculous. But, it gave me a good laugh. All in all, I thought the plot was pretty generic and the action scenes felt over the top and corny, but I enjoyed a lot of the character interactions and dialogue. (Excluding the Colonel. God what a cliche). Expand

Wouldn’t like to sound like a party pooper, but „Planet of the Apes“ surely must be one of the most depressing of all the successful movie series of all time.
I do not consider shooting (or other kind of cruelty against) animals a fulfilling entertainment, even if it happens in a movie and the animals are extra intelligent apes who can fight back.
I am often too lazy to follow movie franchises after seeing the first part, because I find most of them too boring and/or heartless.
Despite that, I have seen all three „Apes“ now. The experience has been kind of depressing, but also, in a way, good cinema. There’s something weird and wonderful about seeing animals acting so expressive and human.
This is what good cinema is all about – making us see the world in a new way, feel something (even bad), be ready to transcend beyond the usual borders and limits that we use to make our usual life less scary and more rational.
So, despite being part of a franchise and all, the first two „Apes“ movies (2011, 2014) managed to make me care, even if the quality of storytelling felt rather mediocre, especially in the part deux.
I am sad I can not say the same about the third one, because „War for the Planet of the Apes“ just sucks.
It’s boring, charmless sequel which has maybe 20-30 minutes worth of good stuff (mostly in the end). It does not really show war as promised in title, but there’s also lack of action altogether, or heartfelt drama.
They have a lot of mediocre story instead, and take their sweet 140 minutes to get there – aiming to create epic end to trilogy.
Which doesn’t even matter much because there has already been promise for future sequels. The first and second episode managed to gather 481,8 and 710 million dollars from cinemas, of course there’s gonna be more!
The biggest letdown must be the aim to turn the movie more into drama than action. But it is difficult to create a convincing full length dramatic story based on animals looking sad and worn-down – although it surely works with short-form web content such as videos, articles, memes, or photo series.
As a result, the core of the movie felt like a parody of similar, mostly youth adult oriented takes on dystopian society and suffering, such as „The Hunger Games“.
It’s shallow, soulless and sometimes just stupid – some big things happen because they are supposed to, rather than evolving naturally from the characters and their actions.
In „War“, there are exactly two characters than made me care about them, neither in the center of the story. Firstly, comic relief monkey performed by Steve Zahn. And secondly, a bad guy played by Woody Harrelson – easily the best thing in the whole movie.
The character may not have been very intriguing on paper, but Harrelson’s performance makes it most memorable, adding depth and powerful presence to otherwise limp story.
As years go by, Harrelson (aged 55 now) has become a bona fide screen legend, a powerhouse actor so awesome that he owns almost every scene he appears in, no matter who or what he shares it with. He is a true master, and the only thing in War“ that feels magical, not soulless rehash.
I know, the star of „Apes“ should still be Andy Serkis performing as Caesar. But the character has become more and more one-dimensional over the course of the trilogy so I had trouble with caring about him at all in „War“.
Caesar's become something of a storytelling device by now, needed for advancing the story but not enriching it in real way.
Most of the event manage to create so little emotional impact that when the finale started, I I already struggled to remember any good parts from before.
But I liked the „biblical“ ending very much. So, the trilogy has a pretty cool finale, at least!

It was the most boring film I have seen in a while, esp for an "action" movie, and even yet, I enjoy some boring movies if they actually teach me something about life or the world, this film did none of those things. It was boring and pointless and just meandered thinking of Ceasar mostly, not much happening, and a pretty stupid movie full of a bunch of predictable movie cliches as well. Mediocre film, and not even worth the title of "planet of the apes" More like a disney version that was dark, boring, but yet had no blood and is a sanitized pile of poor "entertainment". 5/10. The proper title of this film should The Decline of the Francise of the Apes. I am still undecided if this film is Netflix worthy.

After a subsequent viewing on HBO (I subscribe for Silicon Valley) it's Netflix worthy. I still stand by my earlier observations. Man, I miss Serlingesque stories.

Directing style and editing style was rather average, and there was nothing new that an action movie could add. The actors where OK, and the pacing of the story was all right as well. But the story left desiring and it had no real message in the end. Which is the other thing, this title was the ending episode of this trilogy, and they made it too cliche and unsatisfying. And the biggest mistake was that it wasn't that much fun to watch than the first 'Apes' movie, and sadly wasn't entertaining enough to drag in new audiences. Also the visual effects where good, but exaggerated and straight out of a Michael Bay movie, which at this point is just boring. Overall it's a slightly above average movie. Expand

How do they make me get so many feels for CGI apes? How?

I won't go into a lot of details about the plot of the movie itself. I will say however that the trailers are misleading... as in a lot misleading. Don't get me wrong, there is action, there is adventure, there is laughter and sadness. Yes that little girl is in the movie and she has an impactful role, but it isn't what the trailer implies.

Woody Harrelson does awesome as the cray cray commander of the humans. The fact that he emotes so well with a CGI character just means he is as good as I remember him.

The movie itself I doubt will win any Oscars except maybe for effects, and probably not that with so many Marvel/Star Wars movies this year. However, it is good enough that I didn't get dragged out of my suspension of belief. Also, this movie is a great way to wrap up the trilogy, and sets it up for future movies if they want.

Oh, and don't mind the tears, the husband is cutting onions.

The good: Almost everything is good, especially if you watch it as what it is, a Planet of the Apes movie. Acting, effects, story, etc. It is a great journey into the world of the Apes, and I definitely could come back to it.

The bad: Seriously though, attack choppers don't do strafing runs normally. They are quite capable of standing off in a distance and laying down death. Just saying that was my one annoyance (and probably one break from suspension of disbelief).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The third installment of the Planet of the Apes trilogy prequel, War for the Planet of the Apes, is the perfect way to end the trilogy. Sure, Dawn (the previous film) was hard to follow, but this film held on its own. The film now focuses more on the side of the Apes, with Caesar on his quest to avenge his son and wife. The cinematography was indeed amazing, however, there were too many plot holes. One of them was the Simian flu, which was mentioned but was not elaborated well, as the focus was more on the side of the Apes. Andy Serkis' performance was amazing. Woody Harrelson's character was underwritten and unexplored. Focusing on the Apes was not a strong move, and it made the film one-sided, unlike the previous films. But overall, this still is an enjoyable film, and a perfect way to close such an amazing trilogy. Expand

I enjoyed this installment just as much as its two predecessors, all three films are just supremely entertaining and are very well put together. Caesar is a terrific character and continues to look fantastic in this; the special effects are top notch, even the way the apes are shown in shot is expertly done. The additions of Bad Ape and Nova are neat, too.

I'd personally rank it above 'Dawn' but below 'Rise', though there isn't much between them at all. Intrigued to see where they go with the proposed spin-off(s).

There are a lot of heavy, dramatic sequences and I would say this movie compromises entertainment for meaningful content. Everything serves the characters and story. This movie has death, suffering, plight, heroism and empathy. The effects are astonishing..

Apparently this movie requires an active viewer. A person actually has to show up, absorb the content of a film that will not pander to, "give me action" needs. It is surprising to me that the third film in this trilogy would improve so much on the previous two films.

The music both blends in and adds to the drama/action. Beautiful camera work in interesting locations, and several unique characters. This movie is full of great character building, and all the big moments really land where they should.

Overall, you should watch it for yourself and shouldn't believe in negative reviews. Those who gave negative reviews to this movie are those who wanted only fight/ action scenes and those who don't have knowledge of pure cinema.

Caesar (Andy Serkis) and the simian community are hiding in the San Francisco woods as the humans close in on them. After an attempt at peace fails, Caesar embarks on a personal mission of vengeance against the human leader, The Colonel (Woody Harrelson), leaving his community behind and accompanied by his closest allies. The film, directed by Matt Reeves and written by Mark Bomback, takes a more introspective approach, focusing on Caesar's internal struggles and sidestepping the pitfalls of previous trilogy closers by not relying on action and spectacle. The stunning imagery, mind-blowing CGI/motion capture, and a powerful score by Michael Giacchino, all contribute to making the film an astounding visual and auditory experience. Andy Serkis delivers a standout performance, and Woody Harrelson is also noteworthy as the Colonel. While the pacing of the film may drag in the second half, and some characters may take time to warm up to, "War for the Planet of the Apes" is a thought-provoking and emotionally-charged film that brings the trilogy to a satisfying conclusion.

"War for the Planet of the Apes" es la tercera entrega de la franquicia reiniciada, ambientada dos años después de los eventos de "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes".
