On the contrary of the critics that I read a lot the movie is pure creative and different because shows the exaggerated and the impossible on a completely acceptable context! If people merely want to see possible and commons things just read the newspaper and not a movie. A movie needs to be creative and it can also be surreal, since the events fit and have a connected end. Bullets that make curves, bullets with goodbye, cars jumping over others! Two of the functions of the cinema from action are entertaining and make magic, do not forget that. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Putting it bluntly, 'WANTED' was a rather formulaic and predictable outing. A loserly, office shut-in with the help of a hot babe learns about his past and is suddenly thrust into the world of assassination, a world of flipping cars, extreme gun fights, and mind-altering stunts, thus shedding every bit of his shy, weak self. This we've all seen before.

Where 'WANTED' stands apart from any other action film I've seen is in its style. The director has upped the ante on how the action is portrayed. Gone are any sort of boundaries. This is a world where people can flawlessly flip cars over others and land perfectly upright on the other side, where people can shoot from miles away hitting nothing but their target, where people can put such a curve on bullets that they hit multiple targets standing on different planes all with one shot. If people can really do this, perhaps I'm living the same existence as Wesley, and I'm missing out. The film's major selling point is its style and its worth a viewing simply for that.

I think I give you the setting of the source material first as comparison: !!!Spoiler warning for the source material!!! Be also warned: There is stuff in the source material that is gruesome and nothing for weak stomachs. It is even to unsavory for me. It is based on a comic by Mark Millar. I mostly like the setting and world building ideas. On first look it is our world or relative similar. If you look behind the surface it was a world were superheroes existed and more like Marvel or DC earths. The super villains had enough of their defeats and failures and band together killing all superheroes. They won but know there is a multiverse out there with other superheroes that will stop them. They use reality manipulation to create the facade of this normal world while ruling with absolute power. Only they know the past or that superheroes existed. Wesley Gibson is the same person as in the movie but here he gets recruited to become a super villains henchman / killer because his father was one (Heredity of abilities). Lets imagine a world were you can do everything you want with no boundaries or moral restrictions and are a truly amoral super villain. He does many horrible things, starts to like it and all implications for the normal human population will be fixed / erased. The first part would made an awesome setting for a movie while I fully understand / agree that they don't want to use the later part. Now you see where many of the plot holes and oddities for the movie come from. For itself it is a good movie with really amazing effects. The characters and their respective actors are also good and deliver their roles. James Mc Avoy, Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman are especially good / praiseworthy. My main problem are the story and oddities. There are many things for me that are involuntary ridiculous or made me thing WTF? It is no failure and an enjoyable really funny and entertaining movie. It just missed the mark to be awesome and they should have used the good ideas from the source materials. Expand

It features a lot of bloody violence with injury detail shown, hence the higher rating. The plot is pretty thin and its not the kind of film people who rely on complicated plots that stand up to thorough analysis will likely enjoy but as a distracting action film with some pretty decent CGI, its ok. Personally, I didn't think it was much better than an ok film really. The special effects aren't bad but it was all a bit too over the top and cliched in some regards I think too. Not awful, not great, this is ok and no more. I wouldn't go out of your way to see this film, so no I wouldn't specifically recommend it as such, unless perhaps your a big fan of James McAvoy, who has the most time on screen. Expand

The Wanted falls very short of expectations. It definately has it's moments and it is sad that the execution wasn't there as the few pieces that held it together would have made another more polished plot into a great action movie. The writers couldn't decide if the characters were supposed to be super-human or just well trained assassins as they flip flopped between very supernatural behaviour to hand to hand combat. In the end it seemed like the story was rushed along to get a few of the special effects they were excited about out the door before the competition. Expand

That's some loom. If one of these textile hitmen were interrogated by the police, Sloan(Morgan Freeman), for instance, who is the attending interpreter of dry goods; what does he tell the cross-examiner? The loom told me to do it? As it stands, the very idea of getting your directive to kill from an apparatus that harnesses thread is absurd. "Wanted" might've benefited had the film bothered to mythologize the enigmatic machine. Instead of the brief expository wordage that opens this harebrained actioner, how about a scene in which the loom is situated in its earliest context? "Wanted" seems to have an aversion to overplaying its mystical side. The inventor of the loom doesn't have to wear a sorcerer's hat, but let's see what the original Weavers looked like. Maybe an A-list star like Angelina Jolie("Look at my ass! Look at it! Love it! Worship it! Kneel before its awesomeness!!!") didn't want to be upstaged by an origin story. "Wanted" is about choosing between fate and the free will to influence your own destiny. To properly address this dilemma, "Wanted" needed a concluding scene in which Wesley Gibson(James McAvoy) makes a decision about the loom's future, and the future of the Weavers. Expand

Wanted is that type of movie in which director did each and everything that is possible in one movie, except bringing aliens and superhero villains.

The story/ plot was very much normal. The CGI, camerawork, film quality; everything was bad. Only thing in the movie was good, action. There was too much use of slow-motion. I mean why? Just to look cool? Not really. The twist at the end was a small surprise. Literally, after 1 hour I started feeling headache and my eyes started paining. It felt like tiny torture to watch this movie. On the entertainment side, this movie is alot of entertainment and I think this was the only reason why this movie was hit.

Overall, it is an entertaining movie which may give you combo of entertainment and headache.

I've been going through films with Angelina Jolie in it, trying to figure out why I've never really gotten a feel for who she is. WANTED is a prime example of answering that: it's because she constantly is cast in films where there is no character development. It feels somewhere between a Matrix ripoff and a superhero film, with nothing redeemable, new, or interesting to add to an overly saturated market of films about angsty, cis, white men who have not found an excuse to produce violence in a justifiable or excusable way in their life. Hard pass. Couldn't even finish it. Expand

The problem is that it has little story to tell and makes up for that failureThis action film is one of those films that is difficult to judge. After seeing it, I felt that it has a lot of satire and criticism in the way it tells its story. The problem is that it has little story to tell and makes up for that failure with tons of action, a fast pace and a lot of money, as teenagers and younger audiences generally like.

The script tells us the story of Wesley Gibson. He is not happy and lives a mediocre existence where he is nothing more than a failed office worker, under the orders of an overweight and overbearing boss. He lives in a hideous apartment and has a beautiful girlfriend who ostensibly cheats on him with his best friend, who also works in the same office. The fact is that Wesley has little hope of improving his condition, so he ends up enduring mediocrity until he meets a beautiful woman who tells him that he is the son of a murderer who has just been killed. Although it is hard to believe, he decides he needs to know more about it and, realizing the reality, he throws his life in the trash and leaves with a bang. Now it's time for him to follow in his father's footsteps, become an almost infallible killer and avenge his death.

It is not the first time that cinema brings us the story of someone who, living in a mediocre and unhappy way, finds a way to "break the dishes", turn around and taking control of his life. About that, some people remembered "Matrix" and, in fact, that film does just that, although similarities with this film don't go beyond that. In spite of all the social criticism about our way of life and the people who settle for the sensuous everyday life, the script is rather weak in that it is unrealistic and the plot looks thinner than the cotton cloths in that lom factory. The story of the Destiny Loom, then, sounds stupid or childish. If the fraternity were librarians, would they kill based on the height of the spines of the books on the shelves? The strong point of the film are the high doses of action, sometimes very unrealistic, with incredible fights and breathtaking chase scenes, where everyone escapes unscathed by a hair.

Timur Bekmambetov ensured an average direction, giving us a coherent film that could have been much better in the hands of a more demanding and detailed director. James McAvoy is a good actor and has proven himself in previous films, but has little to do here but being beaten, run, get angry and look confused. The film never gave him a chance to show what he was worth. Angelina Jolie has one of the most important roles but what she does is, quite simply, copy much of what she did in "Tomb Raider", "Mr. And Mrs. Smith" and "Salt", in an uninteresting and lazy performance that adds nothing to her career but must have filled her bank account in some millions. Morgan Freeman didn't seem like anything special to me either, but he still stood out positively, given that most of the cast gave us bad acting or lazy versions of work previously done.

Technically, it is a very visual film, betting on a fast pace for the audience to get carried away and not to think too much about the plot. Cinematography is essential for this purpose, with short and fast scenes, constantly moving from one camera to another, from one point of view to another. The use of light and shadow seems appropriate to me. Sound effects are strident and, when combined with a very rock soundtrack, make the film a little loud and noisy. CGI and slow motion help in the action scenes but, from a moment on, everything seems so fanciful that we disconnect from it and wait to the end.

It is being touted as a "must-see" movie of the summer, but don't believe it! Some of the action scenes were cool, but most were so over-the-top that they detracted from the film in my opinion. There are some comedic moments that lighten things up here and there, but even some of the "humor" in these moments was a little too disturbing for me. Additionally, the storyline was weak and disjointed. I love action movies but this one seemed (in my opinion) to almost glamorize killing, or, at a minimum, it treated murder too lightly. I can only describe this movie as how a sugar-high preteen thinks of the world and its problems, including a complete lack of - or perhaps some inside joke of - a plot which leaves you asking what it is you really just saw. 'What the **** have you done lately?', is the parting shot from the 'protagonist' of this film.

Well, things I haven't done lately would include:

1. Murdering strangers because somebody else told you to do so without giving any good reason.
2. Murdering the man who saved your life seconds before, again because somebody just told you to do so.
3. Finally realising that the guy giving these orders is probably bad - but only because he tried to kill you personally.
4. Blaming everybody else for your prior actions and murdering them, too, despite the fact they are in exactly the same position that you were a few hours ago.

You simply can't enjoy a film where the writers are so inane that they think a narcissistic serial killer will be somebody you can really root for.

You can't. You hate him and everything he does, and as a result the film just mindnumbingly stupid, inhumane, and boring.

The plot has enough holes that it needs to be run back through the "loom of fate" -- what an original idea, or not. The language is like a nonstop sewer, pouring foulness all over the audience. Which explains the need to take a bath after watching the film. The violence, expected in an assassin action flick, is also nonstop, and if you like to identify with the main character in a story, prepare to be punched, stabbed, and shot -- by your friends. For those who gave high scores then criticized others for their low ratings, you're not really making sense. When you say that it's supposed to be mindless action, then that means you're a mindless idiot of a viewer. I don't care if the movie's concept wasn't believable (that's why we watch movies), it's the fact that the acting was horrible, the script was full of more bullet-holes than the people who get shot in this dumb-ass movie, and it didn't make much sense. -BTW, the voice-over of the main character narrating the story is some of the worst in movie history; he makes fun of the audience by saying we're mindless sheep and he's so cool, but basically he's saying is what distinguishes his thrilling existence from our boring ones is that he kills people and that makes him cool. And especially at the end when he asks what we've done with our lives: the attempt to break the "fourth wall" and sound profound doesn't work, and makes the director and writer seem like freaken retards. -Also, there's so many glaring plot-holes. Ex: the assassin at the start can jump so far and run so fast as to make papers scatter, but he's NOT the world's greatest assassin. However, NO ONE else in the movie has that ability, even the main character or his father. -I "WANTED" to like this movie, but now I just "WANT" to kick whoever's ass that made it. Expand
