A post-apocalyptic love poem to robots and "Hello Dolly"--an instant classic. Pixar's best character yet, Wall.E, is so strong with the cute side of the force, who can resist him? Haunting and hilarious.

Graphics are stunning as usual, but the story got a little out of hand later in the show, bordered on absurd. WALL-E is loaded with personality however and kept the show moving. The "political" message will turn off some, it's a bit heavy handed towards Wal-Mart and "our" consumption lifestyle, mostly true however, but kinda depressing to see if this is how we end up in 700 years :) Lastly - It's simply NOT good for kids younger than 10. Not that it's violent, it's not, no bad language, it's just they won't understand much of what is going on and will be bored. The "short" before the movie called "Presto" is a 10 however, so if you can just pay $1 to see that, go, but WALL-E isn't nearly as entertaining as you currently might think. Expand

There are no celebrity voices, no uniquely funny characters. I'm not going to talk about the Chaplin-esque elements or the clear references to 2001: A Space Odessey. I can't grasp how this film got past the Disney exec's because most young kids are probably going to be bored by the end. The adults thought are going to have a blast with the social commentary. Pixar hasn't made a great animated film, but a great science fiction film. Put down the iPod's, Cell Phone, Video Games and look around! Expand

The people at Pixar sure love their dystopias. In "Cars", the auto-morphic vehicles played like an inside joke for J.G. Ballard(or David Cronenberg) fans. What exactly happened to mankind? In "Wall-E", we know. When the green planet became The people at Pixar sure love their dystopias. In "Cars", the auto-morphic vehicles played like an inside joke for J.G. Ballard(or David Cronenberg) fans. What exactly happened to mankind? In "Wall-E", we know. When the green planet became the brown planet, they went in exile. It's been seven-hundred years. A robot named WALL-E is the last terrestrial-based entity left on Earth. Eve is man-made too, but she's practically an alien, since the human race no longer has any recent affiliation with their ancient home. The smooth, white surface of the feminized "other" is so much more technologically advanced than WALL-E, just as the black monolith in "2001: A Space Odyssey" was an otherworldly presence to the apes. Since the alien's name is Eve, the knee-jerk impulse would be to name the junk-compacting robot, Adam. But since "WALL-E" operates from a Kubrickesque Weltanschauung, the "male" robot's name can't bear any biblical inference, because "2001: A Space Odyssey" exalts the concept of evolution, not creation. "WALL-E" also borrows liberally from "AI". As in the Spielberg/Kubrick collaboration, a merciless dystopian world is softened by the cute presence of a toy. The morbidly obese humans who seat themselves vegetatively before a computer screen doesn't look the least bit extrapolative, sad to report, as they suck down fatty calories with their fatty mouths. "WALL-E" is a prescient commentary of our times. "AI" tipped in Spielberg's favor(the teddy bear was awfully cutesy), but "WALL-E" is as close to a Kubrick film that's possible within the parameters of a family entertainment. Like "2001: A Space Odyssey", the exiled humans need to relearn that they're not just flesh and blood, but intelligence. The reimagining of the Star Child sequence, scored to Richard Strauss' "Thus Spake Zarathustra", is clever and awe-inspiring, not at all parodic, or self-consciously referential. "WALL-E" will blow your mind. Expand

That being said, they still need to create better looking human characters, especially considering they also use a live actor. Like many people, I wasn't in love with the "social commentary" of the movie (it's just so obvious and annoying), but the love story at its heart is so fraking cute that only a monster could not find it charming in some way, and it completely pays off beginning and end. That, some well placed Sci-fi throw-backs, and steady humor make WALL-E excellent. Expand

I'm ashamed of myself for dissing Pixar like this, and I really tried to convince myself after the movie that it wasn't that bad...but I finally admit it...I am really disappointed. Ever since Toy Story I have been a huge Pixar fan I'm ashamed of myself for dissing Pixar like this, and I really tried to convince myself after the movie that it wasn't that bad...but I finally admit it...I am really disappointed. Ever since Toy Story I have been a huge Pixar fan and have yet to be let down by them until now with WALL-E. I will get the good points out of the way now because they're obvious: superb animation, shots, and direction, and I really appreciated the lack of dialog and the focus on non-verbal communication throughout most of this movie; it all helped tell the story of the Earth being left behind by humanity for clean-up by robots. However, what really sinks WALL-E is the introduction of the human characters and the confusingly poor choice by the director to combine live actors with clearly cartoon animated "actors". This really did not work. Not mention having Fred Willard as one of the main human characters; his funky humor worked well in Best In Show, but it was totally out-of-place here. As well, the development of the animated characters was sub-par and too cartoonish; they came off as unfinished to me. The other disappointing and at times annoying part of WALL-E is the overtly political and environmental tone it attempts to take on yet fails miserably. WALL-E tries to make a case for being less greedy and materialistic, and more green and caring for the Earth (how trendy). While I agree whole-heartedly with this sentiment, I felt the argument presented by WALL-E was like that of a rebellious teenager who doesn't quite know what they're fighting against but uses their emotional angst to push their point over on the world around them with little impact other than to make themselves appear naive and in vain. WALL-E came off as pushy and childish in this respect, not to mention unbelievable in its "vision" of the future should humanity continue on its mass-consumeristic course. In closing, maybe I was expecting too much from Pixar with WALL-E. I mean, the majority of reviews (critics and readers alike) as evidenced by Metacritic, are overwhelmingly great. Not to mention Pixars track record thus far. I can't help but feel perplexed at how well this movie has been received and just what it was that I missed. Expand

How is Pixar spewing out "quick-bucks" when all 9 or so of their films have come out in a 14 year span? On top of that, every film they come out with has been critically acclaimed. Not to mention everyone else in the world seems to like them, and that's why they are so financially successful. You neglect to point out a single valid reason for why you disliked the movie. All you state is that Wall-E somehow "spends more time looking at itself in the mirror than actually doing anything meaningful." please tell me how Wall-E spends time looking at itself in the mirror and why it is supposed to be meaningful? Last time i checked movies were a form of entertainment and in being so they are there merely to entertain you, and if Wall-E didn't entertain you then you are a stubborn, ignorant, heartless obese person who came into the theater in a pessimistic cynical mood, and is refusing to accept the fact that Pixar consistently makes high quality movies. You say that these 3D films forced the end of 2D, but why would we want to still be watching movies in 2D? That's like playing an atari today when you could be playing on a wii or 360. The truth is D.C., Wall-E was a hilarious, cute, heart warming movie that had everyone else in the audience leaving the movie theater happy, so ask yourself why you are so different from the rest of us. Oh and while you are reflecting on why you are a miserable person who wakes up everyday and decides to hate the world for no reason just remember that Wall-E is a movie geared for children and their parents and the Dark Knight which you compared it to is entirely the opposite. Now that i think about it, the Dark Knight probably only appeals to you because it in itself is a dark and cynical movie just as you are. Hmmm yeah case closed. Go see Wall-E because it's easily the best movie of the summer. Expand

After that point, the movie is good, but never quite reaches its full potential, what we would have LIKED to have seen happen. This isn't to say that the film is ever bad, but that perhaps things could have come about in a slightly more realistic manner, or that it could have achieved the same message in a slightly more subtle way). Point is: go see it. It may have a few flaws, but it still ranks as Pixar's most ambitious project to date, and may be one of its best. Expand

In fact, there was no evil in the movie. There wasn't a single malevolent thing in the movie. This movie was overwhelmingly optimistic. The movie is touching, funny, exciting, romantic, beautiful, hopeful, and all around fantastic. I'd rather not go into details, so that I don't spoil the experience for anyone, but I have to defend it against these absurd accusations of being bloated with social commentary. It also tickles you aggressively with situations involving a bunch of obese, devolved humans. Everyone wants to laugh at fat humans, and they also want to believe that they can be permanently happy with others that really tickle their fancy. Our kids loved it so much, this was the second time they saw it. I feel obligated to comment on the person who blasted Pixar for a story that dares to "equate garbage, eating, fat, and lazy? Is it necessary to gleefully portray a ship full of obese people plop around, unable to walk or reach or anything". Ok, here goes: (1) eating and lazy = fat, (2) we have shown ourselves to be a gluttenous, wasteful society = garbage and fat, (3) extended space travel has been shown to create bone loss which could potentially result in the inability to walk. I loved WALL-E (and EVE) from the simple story to the underlying warnings it includes. Let's get real: Fat is not beautiful, fat is unhealthy, for the individual and for the world. Expand

The depiction of our future was very realistic, in that we are becoming a lazy society. We let things we could do ourselve be done by others, or even by machines, even in this day. The movie was consistently funny though not often laugh out loud. It was more of a consistent grin that left you feeling a little more hope for the world if only that there is such a movie that can potentially spark one to think about how they are living and what consequences it may be having on the world. There was also a love story interwoven though strangely not of that of between humans. This sub plot I found entertaining and even somewhat touching. It also is what drove the story to it conclusions. Not to be corny but it was the power of love that saved humanity and the world not that of simple cold logic.
