Terrible, terrible film. Desperately tries to be offbeat and sinister. Fails completely. Awful script, awful characters, awful acting. Please do not listen to the critics who are paid good money to pander to rubbish like this.

A fabulous movie with great acting, a mysterious plot that keeps one quessing and interesting scenery. Too bad it didn't make it to the big screens.

Too much stereotypes and Russians played by Lithuanians, come on... Don't compare the director to Hitchcock under any circumstances.

Good thriller, plenty of suspense, fine performanes and a story that will hold your interest. It is not particularly original but it's handled professionally. Good score and cinematography.

Emily Mortimer is the best thing in a not-bad thriller. Her character is written to be complex, and the actress nails it. Ben Kingsley adds some flavor. Some convenient bits for the plot to progress, but I recommend it.

Superb acting, a twisting, suspenseful plot, and beautful back drop propelled this movie as a very pleasant surprise.

I was expecting good things from this film, but I was totally blown away by it´s great script, matched with perfect directing and cast performances. Also the locations were beautiful and mesmerizing. The score was also just right. I was expecting good things from this film, but I was totally blown away by it´s great script, matched with perfect directing and cast performances. Transsiberian reminded me a little bit of Woody Allens Match Point, which is also an amazing thriller. It is not the easiest genre to pull of, but this film nailed it! I don´t have anything bad to say about this movie. Go see it! Expand

I was never sure which genre this plot would twist into - the dining car-door scene totally unsettled me - I felt like Roy looked shortly after. Smashing film.

Very entertaining, intelligent thriller. Well written dialogue and interesting characters, surprising plot shifts, and interesting settings - all very satisfying.

Still, this was actually a decent little thriller until the last third or so, then the film, uh, jumps the rail, so to speak. You'll know the moment it happens when you watch it. Good performances though, especially Emily Mortimer and the guy playing Carlos. Abby's character could have used a little more fleshing out, given how the movie ends. In all, I wished the ending was better. Expand

I mean, who could play a more clueless dork??? He still hadn't quite figured out what was going on by the end of the movie. But I loved the scenery and all the colorful local characters, Russian or not. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure this was filmed in Russia, but no matter. Expand

During the first half, the film is packed with tense thrills and incredible amounts of mystery, keeping you glued to your seat. However, in the second half, the film falters heavily. The tricks it pretended to have up its sleeve with not nearly worth it or downright predictable. At their worst, the plot elements in the second half become outlandish and wildly implausible, plus without reasonable explanation as to how certain things happen. Instead, the film opts to rush its ending a bit and skip ahead, but the pieces it skips would make the ending actually make more sense. Instead, the film is emotionally distant and keeps the audience at an arm's length, keeping us in the dark while it feels as though the characters know more than we ever will. That said, the film half is very well executed and incredibly tense. The acting is good throughout, plus the cinematography is quite good and the production design is very strong, especially aboard the train. Overall, Transsiberian hits the brakes and skids on the tracks in the second half, but its strong first half comes close to overcoming those problems. Expand

"Transsiberian" is a well-acted and beautifully-shot thriller that manages to keep its viewers on their proverbial toes, even if moral ambiguity may hamper character development.

No idea why this film has such a high score . Nothing interesting really during two hours. It tries to be sinister but it does not go anywhere. Poor acting mixed with poor characters also doesn't help.

Transsiberian could not have been called a bad road movie if not for a strong Russophobic storyline. All Russian here is as desecrated as possible, from flight attendants, to Russian soldiers at the end. I do not argue that in Siberia peopleTranssiberian could not have been called a bad road movie if not for a strong Russophobic storyline. All Russian here is as desecrated as possible, from flight attendants, to Russian soldiers at the end. I do not argue that in Siberia people live worse and poorer than in the European part, but not to a certain extent, although liberals will clearly like the film. If you remove the political agenda, then the film can be watched. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I quite enjoyed this movie as it had a few interesting plot twists and it wasn't too predictable. I particularly liked Jessie as a character, I thought she was played quite well by Emily Mortimer, playing a curious tourist that takes a photo diary of everywhere she visits with her SLR camera.

The movie was slightly slow to start but once it really 'gets going' pace wise (around about 45-50 minutes into the movie, I'd say), it is quite chilling (pardon the pun given the part of the world its set in!). Like I say there definitely are some interesting plot twists, indeed as the story developed I felt that I could predict the outcome only to be proven wrong, which was quite interesting. I did, however, feel that the main let down of this movie was the lack of any real character development - we learn that certain characters have some clearly quite complicated backgrounds but we don't really learn much about them, which is a shame. Of course, people could also say that there are some fairly typical stereotypes present in the movie, yes its an American movie set in Russia so the Russians aren't all portrayed as good guys and so on but other than that, its not too bad. There are some tense action scenes in the movie, although there aren't really any special effects as such but its still exciting and intriguing enough to not be boring and indeed it felt like I was watching a novel, in that I thought it was quite a well thought out script, with the different plot twists and everything, it doesn't entirely rely on visual effects to keep you watching, which is good. I found it interesting to watch in terms of me being female and seeing how Jessie reacted in whats really the key scene in the movie, with Carlos' advances becoming more aggressive and her being in a remote area with no-one else to help, it made me question what I would do in the same situation. I guess its like I think they say in the movie, you shouldn't trust people you meet while travelling in a foreign country, although that should be common sense, it definitely applies in this movie. I should probably warn you that there are one or two torture scenes as well as some strong language used in the movie, so its perhaps not one for the very squeamish, though it did add to the suspense of the movie. I was afraid that the ultimate outcome of the movie may let me down but actually I thought that the final scene added to the intrigue and it leaves you questioning things, its another, final plot twist you could say, which was quite good I think.

Yes I would recommend this movie as its quite chilling/thrilling once the story really gets going and the characters are interesting. The story has a few twists which adds to the intrigue and all in all, I enjoyed watching it, so I would recommend it. It isn't a perfect movie, if there is such a thing, in that I felt that more background information on the characters would have helped it, we only gain enough of a glimpse to realise that certain characters come from a troubled past but little is learnt about that and also if your critical you could be irked by one or two typical American stereotypes but otherwise, its a good movie.
