Definitely the worst of the 6 films and it really needs to end before it gets even worse. And the idiotic woke writing including race jokes about white people makes me not ever want to watch this series again if they stick with an all black cast. Michael Bay, I'm ashamed you went with this awful director. You can do better. The movie itself was also very weak because of the weak robot villains and new auto-bots and animal-bots or whatever the hell they were called, I forget. I want to forget everything about this movie. Don't even think I'll add it to my 4k collection even when it's on a deep holidays sale. So glad I didn't go to theaters to see this. Thank God for torrents. Saved myself $20 on a ticket and popcorn/drink. Expand

I watched the previous films to prepare for this, but turns out Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is set in 1994 so although I relived some unapologetically outrageous 2000s filmmaking, it provides no relevant backstory to this movie.

ROTB spends a lot of time in Brooklyn baby! with its human characters and tends to drag on about the struggles of main character Noah, introducing his ill younger brother and shady neighbourhood buddy. Enter the museum intern who happens upon an artefact which gives us a map to find this key thing.

We get to see some stunning robot action sequences as well, which is probably the closest feeling you’ll get to the original 1986 animated movie. The Transformers, Maximals and bad guys all look amazing. The voice work is both personable and commanding, and well-executed by all involved. Pete Davidson shines as Mirage. Peter Cullen is Optimus. We see Optimus in a way we’re not used to, and it's oddly refreshing although I missed his overt leadership and kick-assery.

While there’s a whole lot of conveniences that push the story along, there appears to be at least some effort in making the characters realistic enough to not render them absolute morons or overly powered/awesome.

It’s a lot of fun and definitely has the original 1986 movie vibe.

Unicron is terrifying. Make sure you’re in a cinema with the best sound possible.

The best next to Bumblebee and the first Michael Bay Transformers. Which isn’t saying a lot since the movie has its corny moments.
The Transformers get more to do than just blow **** up and feel more like characters than they did in the Michael Bay sequels. The movie feels more like the cartoon series. Though some lines are so cheesy that yes they felt like they came straight from the show.
The movies are finally figuring out what works. Which is sad since critics and probably even some fans are tired of Transformers after 4 brainless Transformer sequels.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Going in low expectations, but it was an enjoyable experience. The pacing in the beginning could have been tweaked and I wish some of the transformer characters could have been more fleshed out. Like Arcee, Bumblebee, Wheeljack and the flying autobot. The only maximals that got screentime to know was Primal and Airazer, I wish Cheetor and Rhinox got more screen time than just action sequences. Other than that, the characters that get focus like Optimus, Mirage, Primal and Airazer are great. Great villains, Terrorcons, but no Decepticons. The human characters were good, probably the best of any Transformers movie. Action, set pieces, setting was great. HASBRO, GIVE BUMBLEBEE HIS VOICE BACK, WE DONT NEED HIM TO HAVE NO VOICE EVERY VERSION OF HIM, and make the Optimus Prime origin movie set on Cybertron like in the beginning of Bumblebee. Spoiler but stop reading here You were warned. They are setting up a Transformers, GI Joe crossover in the movies and I’m all for it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. They easily defeated the overpowered Terrorcons at the beginning of the movie, as if they were a Decepticon. The action was very short, the "let them come" part in the trailer was just left in the air. Optimus Prime is very weak in the movie. It's not Optimus Prime in Bumblebee, it's Optimus Prime here. We didn't even see any decent fight, except for Optimus Maximal.
I felt like I had officially cut out the scenes. Unicron sends his men and he doesn't even get involved in the event. Oh man, even the music that stuck in my mind during the action of the movie could not be.
It's literally searched for the epic music playing in those old Michael Bay Transformers movies. Those who say you like Spider-Man No Way movie for nostalgia, look at this movie and say so,
because the movie officially took the soundtrack of the first Transformers movie "Arrival To Earth" as it was, but abused the epicness of that music and used it in an irrelevant way. For example, it plays in the scene where Optimus Prime survives. However, if it played where the Autobots first took action, it would have made a good reference to the first Transformers live action movie.
. When Bumblebee thought he was dead, he came back to life, but for some reason, Maximal, who died, did not come back to life. Why, because Bumblebee is a very popular character. In the movie, both the screen time of Maximals and the screen time of Terrorcons could not please me. Unfortunately, this movie didn't learn from the old Transformers: Age of Extinction and The Last Knight.
He repeated almost the same mistakes. You know, the Mirage shown in the trailers uses special abilities, or for some reason, no other character uses special abilities. Isn't it very strange? In the closing part of the movie, G.I.Joe made me question what's the deal. I like the merging of different universes, but I wish they'd tie it together like it was last minute, sir;let's add the G.I Joe universe, why did they say it would be so nice that they put a scene like this. Compared to previous Transformers films, with the exception of Bumblebee, it focuses more on the struggles and dreams of human characters in life.
Removing the "This is not real" part in the trailer, so what can I say, I smell fraud again. It's pretty much the same situation when a trailer of Avengers Infinity War shows the Hulk character fighting in Wakanda and is not in the movie at all.
It deeply saddens me that the series with such beautiful stories and my favorite universe is the victim of such sloppy work. Although I watched the movie with the lowest expectations, unfortunately I did not enjoy it. Everything tasted like it was not well cooked and half raw in the mouth. I give the movie a rating of 0 out of 10.

Overall it's an enjoyable movie.

On a side note: I couldn't shake the feeling of familiarity and then I realised. It's basically The Lord of the Rings: Transformers Edition.

Fun movie, a nice refresh to the franchise, fast pasing and keeps you at the edge of your seat. to my surprise it has some scary parts (or maybe just for me). More female characters (autobots and maximals) added or bring back to the franchise in a nice way. but....

I still not getting why they keep making the humans so important in these movies, I get it they are important... but we want to see transformers and now maximals... No humans. The suit part was like a big nope for me.

I haven't seen Bumblebee or Last Knight but this is my second favorite in the franchise just behind Transformers 2007. Great battles as expected. Scourge was a great villain to counteract Prime & Primal. I don't think Mirage was as annoying as everyone made him out to be but the commentary became a little much at times, especially during an early battle. Noah & Elaina were great human characters, probably the best since Sam in 07. Prime and Primal were great respectively, with both growing throughout the course of the film. I wish some of the other Maximals were given as much screen time as Autobots like Bumblebee and Arcee did. Overall I enjoyed the movie and I would rank it similarly to Jurassic World. Expand

Nothing else to say about a reboot franchise that is a sequel to the not so good Bumblebee movie. Lots of action and what i like about it is that while it might be a little bit cringy it has less humans and more about the Transformers themselves. Oh and btw SCOURGE IS SO COOL LOOKING also the other "enemies" aka Terrorcons. this really was a great film and the plot was moving at a good enough speed in my opinion so this should be a movie everyone watches. I recommend it for everyone. Even though the starting kill of Apelinq by Scourge was pretty brutal. But yeah i give it a 9/10 because it was fun to watch.

For me easily the best Transformers film after Bumblebee, and I hope Steven Caple Jr. Will stay and do more.

For the Beast Wars fan in me, This was a missed opportunity. It didn't have all the Maximals or any Predicons. Of course, the thing about Maximals working to protect nature is a nice idea. I didn't like them killing off Airazor! I mean they could have at least shown her transform once.

As a movie itself, it was questionable and uninteresting in the plot or character development. But at least it's better than some of the later Bay movies. That's for sure!

PS: No offence to that nerd bot but I REFUSE TO CALL HIM WHEELJACK!!!

I did not watch a trailer or read anything about it before seeing it in theaters, this would prove to be a huge mistake. I went to see it because I liked the show Beast Wars as a kid. Lets get straight to the point. This movie is bad. Its even more focused on humans than the Michael bay films. The first half of the movie is basically slow woke pandering *ahem* I mean "developing" the two main human characters which are both uninteresting flat racial caricatures. Now that that's out of the way this movie introduces a new type of Transformer, unfortunately they are barely in the movie; in fact Cheetor and Rhinox have like one line each. There is also a lack of Villain Transformers (only 3) who likewise are not fleshed out at all beyond being evil. I couldn't even tell you their names after watching the movie. Perhaps the biggest flaw of all is that there is barely any robot fight scenes in a movie about fighting robots. Instead we get a lot of action scenes that cater to a specific audience and focus on human protagonists. There are realistically only 2 major transformer fight scenes in the movie. One towards the beginning, and one at the end. The second is the finale which is the ONLY TIME the Maximals transform. Their transformations look good too, which leaves you wondering why this was not a bigger focal point of the movie. Yet even in the finale, in the big reveal of their transformations when they finally get to say the iconic line of "Maximize!" they still barely get any screen time. Instead we largely focus on the humans again with a splash of Mirage/Optimus Prime thrown in.
There is also a weird forced representation in the Autobots who now have a female who never does much of anything and one with a latino accent yet doesn't speak Spanish. This accent is used for one joke; other than that this character is totally impotent and irrelevant. A lot could be said about how bad this movie is, and how much wasted potential there was within it. What leaves you feeling jaded is the realization they wasted your time on purpose with the classic bait and switch.

Things were looking good for a sequel.

Five long years later it arrives and Paramount along with Hasbro make the same mistake of wanting to be so big that they get lost in all the chaos that once again everything feels like more of the same. Lots of explosions, zero story.
If that always entertained you with these characters, I don't see why it won't now. And if you never liked them before for the same reason, then the same rule applies.

And the ending? Well, I don't think this movie will do very well at the box office so I kinda doubt we'll get to see that crossover, but to be honest that's something I can't say for sure either.

Acting: 8
Plot: 5

For the seventh instalment of Transformers movies, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is another prequel set in the past which also served as a standalone sequel to 2018’s Bumblebee. One thing unique about this is the movie took some influence from Beast Wars sub-series which was never used in the previous instalments.

Seven years after the event of Bumblebee, Noah Diaz (Ramos), a former military electronic expert living in Brooklyn, New York, is having trouble landing a job to pay his brother’s medical bill. In times of desperation, Noah is force to take a carjacking job from a friend to steal a Porsche 911 in order to sell it for money. However, the car he is trying to steal turns out to be a Transformer disguising himself as that car called Mirage (Davidson), who is part of the Autobots faction.

Bringing Noah along to a meeting spot with the other Autobots, Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen) is disappointed in Mirage for having to involve a human. Nevertheless, Arcee tells him, Mirage and Bumblebee that she has found a Transwarp Key, which was believed to have been lost for many years and it can be used to open a space-time portals to Energon-rich planets like Cybertron. As the key is located in Ellis Island and not wanting to cause unnecessary attention from the other humans, Mirage suggest recruiting Noah to steal the key which the latter reluctantly accept it.

Elsewhere, the servants of Unicron called Terracons led by Scourge (Dinklage) have been searching for the Transwarp Key for a very long time ever since the key have been taken away to Earth for safe keeping by the Maximals, another race of Transformers. Finally found the location of the Transwarp Key, the Autobots must stop them from gaining and giving the key to their master.

While this movie is certainly better than 2017’s Transformers: The Last Knight, I felt this movie is quite a letdown of quality from the previous movie, Bumblebee. The movie tried to replicate the same kind of chemistry between a human and a Transformer like Hailee Steinfeld and Bumblebee in the previous movie but it was not executed very well. Speaking of Hailee and Bumblebee, I was disappointed that she and other characters in that movie never return in this movie except for a small reference to it that is very missable if you have not watch it prior. In addition, Bumblebee himself is reduced to a small and minor character that he does not really do anything much. At times, I forgotten that he is even in this movie. The character development in this movie is not impressive at all. Including Bumblebee and the villain ones, the other Transformers except Mirage and Optimus Prime are nothing more than generic characters with nothing unique to stand out from the others.

The plot of the movie is also generic and nothing special. Basically, the villains in this movie are trying to gain a key-like object to open a portal to bring their armies into our world for invasion and the heroes must stop them by shutting down the portal and defeat them to save the world. This plot line is first seen (or at least in the 21st century) from 2012’s The Avengers and later replicated by 2016’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. This plot line is really been overused these days. Another thing I noticed is while the studios have previously announced that Bumblebee is retconned as a new standalone and reboot movie with no connection to Michael Bay-directed Transformers movies, they have appeared to changed their stance and said this movie and Bumblebee are once again prequels to earlier Transformers movies. Not only that this is confusing, the ending of this movie teased “a certain organisation” (I think you know what this is) that will potentially crossover with future Transformers movies which begged the questions about where and what were the organisation is doing during the first five movies. I got the feeling that many things are gonna get retcon in future instalments.

If there is one good thing about Transformers movies, their CGIs and special effects are very good which is very consistence. Despite the chemistry between human characters and Transformers are not executed well, the casts’ performance is good including Peter Cullen who still does a great job in voicing his iconic role. The movie still have plenty of actions and funny scenes to keep you entertained and there are no boring scenes to keep you bored. Furthermore, none of the female characters are oversexualised and none of juvenile humours just like in Bumblebee. Overall, the movie is mediocre which is neither too good nor too bad. If you are fans of Transformers, you may want to catch this movie. There is also a mid-credits scenes but it’s just a funny scene which you can skip it if you want to.

Bumblebee (2018) was a breath of fresh air from the ridiculously stupid Michael Bay movies. It gave me hope that the Transformers franchise will be able to finally accelerate in a good direction. However, is this actually the case? Or does it just fumble like the old entries?

Firstly, the design of the transformers is great. I love that they are a lot more colourful with distinct looks which makes it easier to recognise who is who. There are new Beast Transformers called the Maximals and they look terrific. The action scenes are also way more visible and easier to comprehend what is going on compared to the Bay movies. The action is incredibly entertaining with great choreography. The story also gives a proper character arc for Optimus Prime which is interesting. We don't see this side to his character so I quite liked it.

In terms of the human characters. I think Noah played by Anthony Ramos is okay. He has a sympathetic story about his very ill brother he takes care of and not being able to get a job. He also has good chemistry with the Transformers, most notably Mirage voiced by Pete Davidson. On that note, Pete Davidson does a good job of making the character likeable without being overly annoying. The legendary Peter Cullen continues to voice Optimus and he is still awesome. Michelle Yeoh is enjoyable as the Maximal Airazor, and Ron Perlman is great as Optimus Primal and does a good job of making him sound like an equivalent leader to Optimus. Peter Dinklage as the villain Scourge is great too. However, despite the title being about the rise of the beast, the Maximals are barely involved in the film. They are there at the beginning and in the 3rd act but that is really in. Plot-wise, they don't contribute much which is massively disappointing. There are just too many characters in this film and unfortunately, many of them barely get any dialogue or personality. This is notable with the Maximals Cheetor and Rhinox and even some of the Autobots. The 3rd act is a little dull to look at as well with its very grey landscape. There is also a very overdone cliche that is used here which has been used in a lot of superhero movies. The script is also kind of cringy and corny. Some jokes did land but there are definitely a fair amount of weak dialogue that doesn't feel natural. The plot is also very basic and has been done twice already in this franchise. A human meets a Transformer and gets scared but then help each other to take out some evil robot who wants to destroy the planet. It's weird that they keep doing the same formula. The 3rd act also has so many ridiculous plot conveniences to keep the humans involved in the plot. I also found the human and Transformer friendship to be weaker than Bumblebee (2018). They just don't invest enough time into it for me to care. I dislike the stupidity of the villains as well. They have opportunities to kill the characters but never do. E.g. they could kill the humans but instead they send silly spider things that can somehow be hurt by a stick.

Overall, it's a fine Transformer movie. It definitely isn't as good as the previous entry Bumblebee or even as entertaining as the First Bay Transformer movie. It does a lot of things better than those but there are a lot of weak elements as well. This is a step in the right direction and the ending certainly made me interested in the future of this franchise. I hope to see them truly Transform this franchise for the better though.

I walked into this movie wanting to watch robots fight and pieces of scrap flying with explosions in the background. I do not walk into such a movie to watch the struggles of humans or a deeper reflection on topics like society or otherI walked into this movie wanting to watch robots fight and pieces of scrap flying with explosions in the background. I do not walk into such a movie to watch the struggles of humans or a deeper reflection on topics like society or other philosophical titles. So a "good story" is not my main focus.

Although the human element is present and (much weaker and less fleshed out than previous entries) the movie absolutely delivers on robot on robot action. Although none of the fights are comparable to the iconic choreographed fights Michael Bay gave us (Optimus v Bone crusher in 2007, The Forest Battle in Revenge of the Fallen or just about anything in the second half of Dark of the Moon) they are acceptable.

Overall the story is sufferable but very condensed. Everything happens just too quickly because the movie had to get somewhere by the end but wanted to do so much before then that you end up with less impactful sequences that are over before they even start. If there was ever a movie that needed to be a two parter but wasn't, it's this.

Having both the Maximals and Autobots in one film makes it feel like two entirely different franchises are being juggled and fighting for screen time. We also learn very little of the Maximals as their full group introduction only happens much later in the movie.

I am at least familiar with the faction but those who only know about the main gang from prior movies or the mainstream cartoons will feel lost for the most part. Their presence, due to the condensed structure also feels underutilised.

Irrespective, these factors would not take away much from a mindless enjoyable action movie I described in my opening paragraph.

The movie was going strong at a 9/10 enjoyable movie, until the climax...

Steve Jablonsky's epic and fitting score which elevated Bay's films from mindless CGI brawls to epic set pieces has been pushed aside for... rap and hip hop. Someone legitimately watched Avengers Endgame's final fight and said, "You know what would make this better? If we took away the Avengers theme and blasted Eminem or Kendrick Lamar, instead!"
It felt like a hipster millennials' Spotify playlist of the day instead of a proper curated soundtrack throughout the movie and has taken Transformers from the visual epic to Transformers from the Bronx and to state his is "mildly infuriating" would be an understatement.

Wheeljack's design is garbage. They took him from the white with green and red stripes with side fins to a rusty borderline soft and effeminate nerd with a Spanish Accent and glasses to make a "is it racist to assume you can speak Spanish with that accent" joke. Ratchet was far better than this...

Finally (MINOR SPOILER), and this was the point were the movie just completely lost me, Transformers can now shrink their parts and become exo-suits for humans making them just as powerful if not more powerful than transformers themselves. So get ready for Transformer Iron Man people because this movie makes it a thing and it looks terrible. The music would have honestly dropped it to a 7/10 but this solidified its place at a just-average 6. It felt so goofy and out of place.

In conclusion:
This movie delivers fights that are acceptable but still find themselves in the shadow of those that came before.

The humans are probably the weakest so far compared to the others in previous films.

The condensed and sometimes rushed structure makes balancing and juggling its entire cast of Transforms very difficult despite not even being that big.

The climax is ruined by out of place and ill fitting music genres and some of the stupidest and most immature "this is so cool guys" choices I have ever seen in the franchise.

All these faults culminate to create an average movie carried hard by the visual spectacle of its battles.

Another brutal movie to rate, I like Transformers and this has some good action but a lot of elements ruin it.

So let me get right into it, the music choice was bad, the plot and story were meh, and the dialogue is mostly meh and sometimes out of place in some scenes.

Paramount, and Hasbro, there was a much easier way to do a Transformers film. Cybertron War should be the main focus, Humans in a film about transformers ruin the whole point of the movie, and while yes the main human protagonist is a good character overall, his plot just gets in the way. Yes, I see they wanted you to relate to him, just like you would do optimus prime but wouldn't it be better if the focus was just Prime and his struggle to protect his Autobots from being hunted down while they try to get home?

For fans of Transformers, if you haven't played the Cybertron games, I highly recommend Transformers: War of Cybertron & Fall of Cybertron, those succeed the Transformers lore in every way.

Now for the music, wtf is this music doing in here, rap really? Look I'm all for rap music, I like rap. But here it's just wrong. Cinematic music needed to be used for the final fight scene, I was going to give a 7/10 for this film.
The film started doing cool things but lost my interest and flow of the film when rap music starts playing, am I supposed to listen to the song or just keep watching? What's going on?

Now the good bits of this film are the action scenes excluding some slow-mo, "Look it's a missile omfg" moments. Again I will say it again, ACTION SCENES NEED TO BE TENSE AND SATISFYING.

The only purely satisfying bit of this film for me is when Optimus is fed up with fighting Bad Teracon Number 1.

Ratings Roll out:

Visuals: 10/10, Very nice visuals, I like the designs, that old gen look works well, though there are some spots with Optimus Primal that are bad looking. And Optimus Primes' mouth is weird looking.

Story & Plot: 6/10, What is better than saving one world? How about 2 worlds, ba dum tss.

Characters: 6/10, they are all OK, nothing special here.

Pacing: 7/10, Not too bad, it felt Vast.

Music: 4/10, Get your composer to make some Action filled music, rap is incorrect here.

Micheal Bayness: 7/10, What's this you may ask? This is how I rate action in a Transformers film, yes I know Micheal Bay was not involved, it's just a fun thing to have, and to be honest what he did was superior action compared to this film.

6/10, It's entertaining, not really something you'd watch immediately but it's enjoyable, there is a lot of broken logic in this film, stuff that just doesn't make sense even for fiction.

As a gamer looking at this film makes me really want a Transformers game. Let me guess you'll say "What do you mean? There was a Transformers game just the other month"
No, I want a Full AAA-budget Transformers game that takes the franchise to new highs.

Imagine Warhammer: Space Marine 2 gameplay, mixed with the Cybertron games, I would pray to a game like that.
I dunno, Hasbro Executives should stop trying to make the cheapest thing on the market for chump change and start respecting their licenses.

Or I will do it myself.

Anyway, that's all, have a good day. Hopefully, one-day Transformers fans will rejoice for watching a good film and playing a game based on the Transformers Universe.

But as a final note, Remove the humans, Kill them all actually, and don't try and copy other films. Yes, we noticed, Avengers Endgame, nice try.

Rise of the Beasts are actually well made and it is actually one of the better installments. Yet, we have seen these so many times before, and strangely, all the blockbusters this year has essentially the same plot: get a 'Mac guffin' item before the villains or else. This 'sameness' made my movie watching experience a bit redundant. No wonder people waited to see these blockbusters until they were released at home. Expand

The average lul filler movie. Rinse and repeat formula that just makes minor tweaks. Watch once and second time only if there is nothing else on TV. Taking a nap might be preferable though.

There is not enough exploration of the Beasts backstory or contribution. Somewhat confusing and ending up not understanding if they are from the future, past, alternate timeline, different region of space or what. At this point there could be more improvement if they put all but the special effects into the hands of some promising B movies director.

Superb movie for my son, i enjoyed the action and CGI, and thought Noah was an excellent main character.

Watch the film, you will understand.) Then the style is very different from the first 4 films. It feels like I'm watching a cartoon. PLOT. not like this "PLOT". This is **** **** the plot is read on the go. It feels like the world is adjusting to GG. PATHOS... Oh, how much pathos in this film, if there was a scene where people **** 100% would be pathos music. The only thing I liked about the movie. This is the last fight. It's cool there. And yes, it looks like there will be agents from the comics. I'm too lazy to write further, sorry :) Have a nice day! Expand

Muito bom recomendo
O estilo retro dos Transformers é muito melhor do que dos novos e o cgi está maravilhoso
A história é boa mais poderia ser melhor
E a interaçao dos Transformers com os humanos e os maximals é muito boa.

It's the first live action Transformers movie I've seen and I feel like it carried some of the feeling of the old animated series while also having a nice modern/retro style mix. The writing is not up to much but but it somehow didn't iritate me in the way that it did in e.g. Avatar WoW. Overall, I think if you have nostalgia for Transformers I think it's and enjoyable movie but otherwise it may not be your cup of tea. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the scenes from Cusco and Machu Picchu, since we had just visited there a fee months ago, so that was a nice bonus for us! Expand
