One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Tom cruise is showing hollywood how to make the best A+ movies. There wasn't a dull moment the entire movie. All seat gripping, cheering, and and anxiety moments.

Great movie. Well written, shot, and a great acting. This is reminiscent of older well done movies that didn't need to preach to you or tell you what everything was and how you should feel about it. Great sequel. Also, pays homage to the past.

Oh come on negative nellies. This movie was fun. Did a great job tying back to the old movie, building out a new one with new characters and lots of fun. Don't expect anything deep. Expect to be entertained!

Gave me an 80s vibe while being modern, very rarely do I get a movie that gives me that sort've nostalgic feeling but with modern cinematography. Enjoyed the characters and humor. One of my favorite new movies in recent years.

I had a blast watching this. There were a few things that were slow. And the love interest part of the movie was awkward as heck but overall it was a blast to watch and the ending was stellar. Great job!

What an incredible movie, just a rush of emotions and nostalgia. This is how you do a sequel people.

This movie might have the best third act I have seen in a long time.
Thank god no one died, that would have been a bummer.
Kind wanted to see Maverick getting a promotion at the end but that's alright.

1) Really needed a large dogfight scene, feels like so much wasted potential here. We didn't get to see all the pilots in action and a lot of the training seemed like it was irrelevant.
2) Zero attempt to flesh out the enemy/mission, was extremely contrived. I get that the focus was on Maverick but this still felt a bit lazy.
3) Some of the dialog/acting from the new pilots was pretty bad.… Expand

I don't even like action movies, but I'm rating this high simply for finally reminding audiences what action movies are SUPPOSED to be. Most of blockbuster movies churners lost recipes, but they did not. Good for them.

This movie invented the bait & switch reversed: Going against the spirit of time, it actually centers around the main character of the original movie, instead of handing the torch to a younger, more diverse actress. The pacing is perfect, the twists around the formula do make it it's own story at the same time it references the original. A great movie, perhaps greater than the original.… Expand

It's a real treat in this day in age to have a sequel to a beloved classic film that actually fulfils the role of, well, a sequel. If you haven't seen it, or are debating seeing it, debate no longer. To be entirely truthful, I fully expected this film to suffer from the same pitfalls all of these sequel/remakes do in today's age; to spit in the faces of the original, and re-make it in their own twisted image. Re-write characters to fit a new narrative. Break down their legacy into something unrecognizable. Like what Disney did to Star Wars over the past decade.
To my utter amazement, it never did. Not even a little bit. Every second of this film was totally respectful to it's 1986 predecessor. Almost all action seen is practical. Those F-18's were real F-18's, flown by real people, filmed with real cameras, and it's a sight to behold. The sound design beautifully translates the incredible power these machines possess. It's characters remain untarnished from revisionism. Maverick is still the same Maverick we knew all those years ago. The new characters are written realistically, with care and diligence. Our hero's struggles are approached with dignity and respect. Ulterior motives, personal politics, all absent from the film. With all of it wrapped in just the perfect amount of nostalgia tastefully sprinkled throughout the 2 hour runtime. Enough to harken back to it's roots, and tug on a few heart-strings, but it never dwells on it. Something this authentic and genuine needs to be openly praised and cherished. This is what we should expect sequels, and to that extent action films in general, to be. What a wonderful surprise.… Expand

It's a showcase of brilliance in every aspect of cinematography, definitely worth seeing... It's a stunning piece of action filmmaking. The narrative doesn't match the level of filmmaking during the dogfights. But those dogfights are the core of the film and are executed flawlessly.

36 years in the making. Who would have thought it would ever come out. What a spectacle. Plot is questionable but the action is edge of the seat stuff, the opening scene and the test course is hair raising. Cruise makes it happen, even after36 years in the making. I thought making a sequel to Top Gun wasn't a great idea until I saw this. Top Gun Maverick is easily one of the best movies that I've ever seen.

First of all, this movie doesn't make jokes at the expense of it's predecessor, pays tribute to the original in all ways it can , manages to keep the spirit of the original alive and yet surpass all expectations.

It is well written, good acting by all the supporting actors, great background score, beautiful action sequences, great direction and the movie teaches valuable lessons about life.

This will be one of the few movies I watch for a second time.… Expand

With a sequel that has more charisma and suspense than the 36-year-old original film, "Top Gun: Maverick" features Tom Cruise reprising his role as Pete. Miles Teller is introduced as an on-screen pupil just like he was in "Whiplash", who is desperate to be on the Dean's list of his talent, but is pervasively lectured by his guru, however not berated. I was involved in JROTC in high school but our unit had no aviation courses, nor did I have an enthusiastic passion for it, but I took a crack at this film to acknowledge some insight on the subject. After sitting through it, figured that a movie is a movie and will do what it takes to originate its art and present it to all that walk on the earth and look up to the flyers.… Expand

It is a fun action packed movie with a great story, great acting, great soundtrack, that is well executed with amazing action scenes. This movie has a soul and heart, it respects its past and the audience. On a technical level this is the best movie I have seen in a long time, practical effects like putting real people in real cockpits will outdo cgi every day.

After suffering through many franchises ruined forever by subversion, gender and identity politics, lame writing and utter disrespect for the fans (hello there, Star Wars, Star Trek, Bond, Ghostbusters...) Top Gun warmed my heart and gave me a little hope for the future of Hollywood.

So, why not 10 points? At least one thing I have to criticise and that is the main character. Yeah, we get it, Maverick is good and maybe Tom Cruise is Hollywoods last action hero, but he is way to perfect and good to be true.

All in all, go, see it, have fun. Bring your buddies, have a few beer and rejoice in old school Hollywood, it's not dead yet.… Expand

Cruise is and always has been a great actor. Here, he reinforces that and does even more. He puts other actors inside a moving fighter jet. He enters one himself. And it's to fly! Beautiful until the last minute. I can only fill every second of this job with praise. Every character is fun. The only core that doesn't fit is that of Tom Cruise with Jennifer Connelly. It took just one step to wrap that core in the gripping narrative. Even though it's the weakest core, it's still fun and sometimes funny. It's a homage with a chance to compare to the first film. What an honor to see this movie in theaters.… Expand

I didn't see the original, but I felt it and I now have to go watch it. Great job to the stellar cast, and the crew for all of the hard work that went into this effort.

From the second of the opening score you are pulled straight back into the nostalgia of the 80s. A must-see movie!! Haven't seen a better movie in many years!! Loved everything about it: the cast, the storyline, the action......just all of it!! Sometimes it's tough to sit through a 2+ hour movie, but it wasn't at all tough to sit through this!

Just an absolute joyride. One of the very few times where the sequel is better than the original. Pays homage and respect to everything Top Gun was about and more. Better than the first movie. It's a classic action blockbuster, and it's clearly up to the expectations of the genre. Remarkably realistic regarding of what a fighter jet does. Every distancing from reality is done for sensible reasons.

Watched it in a cinema with a super wide screen and Dolby Atmos and WOW... quite the experience. A very summer blockbuster-type film that many can enjoy watching. Happy to say, I enjoyed it very much.

This movie is definitely worth paying for imax tickets and I suggest you get a big water bottle cause you will be sweating profusely as Maverick cuts through the sky like butter.

Great writing! Amazing acting! I cannot think of a single thing wrong with this movie no matter how hard I try. I didn't even see the original the film, yet I felt like I knew Mavrick for years. I don't know what else to say, Awesome film!

Wow. The first Top Gun is a classic, and as we all know, sequels/remakes rarely beat the original, especially 36 years later e.g. The Matrix Resurrections. Well, this film just broke that theory.
