A hilarious mix of comedy, mystery, sci-fi, and blaxploitation. It's as if Jordan Peele directed a Black Mirror episode. Juel Taylor uses black humor to comment on racism, segregation, and mass manipulation. The third act goes off the rails, but John Boyega, Jamie Foxx, and Teyonah ParrisA hilarious mix of comedy, mystery, sci-fi, and blaxploitation. The first third of this film features the trio in a rapid-fire, expletive-filled tribute to the Blaxpoitation films of the 70s, complete with retro looks, film grain and cue dots*. It's often funny with Foxx continually dropping hilarious off-kilter observations. The 2nd third introduces the conspiracy and their attempts to find the truth, which creates an interesting mystery. The final third falls apart with mediocre action scenes. What started out with lots of satirical promise, loses momentum, but it's still a raunchy romp thanx to the 3 leads and their delightfully outrageous characters. * In the film projection days, the film had a literal dot in the upper right corner to signal time for a reel change. This became unnecessary with the advent of digital projection, but the threw it in just as a fun Easter egg for buffs.… Expand
