Yet another movie that has amazing talent! 10 out of 10! Acting, score, and story were all linked to greatness. If you're looking for a movie with decency and morality, then this is a movie for you to watch!

I enjoyed this movie but it wasn't exactly "historically accurate". Not ONCE did I hear Queen Victoria's true title, which was "monarch of the United Kingdom of GREAT BRITAIN and Ireland. She was always referred to as the Queen of England. InI enjoyed this movie but it wasn't exactly "historically accurate". In fact all references were to England, which would have been forgivable had the writer had been a foreigner but I was shocked to see that it was Sir Julian Fellowes - who really ought to know better!… Expand

What is wrong with a picture being Masterpiece Theatre old fashioned? It was beautiful to watch even having some historical authenticity of the times. Emily Blunt is bright light on the screen. We really enjoyed it. Luckily, it must have been made for me to enjoy and not the critics. I wish it had been even longer and more in depth.

Fantastic movie, especially when you consider casting, costumes, and being true to history. Only wish the mostly male critic population would recognize movies like this, as much as they do Inglorious Basterds.

On the eve of the coronation ball, Young Victoria(Emily Blunt) pays tribute to her most loyal subject, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, by giving him a bath, as a way of thanking him for always being there throughout her lonely childhood. On the eve of the coronation ball, Young Victoria(Emily Blunt) pays tribute to her most loyal subject, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, by giving him a bath, as a way of thanking him for always being there throughout her lonely childhood. Wrapped in a towel, Dash gets the well-earned privilege of dancing with the queen first, when the royal teenager gives her dog a quick spin, amusingly enough, before she does the same with Albert(Rupert Friend), the future prince, later that night. In Dash's eyes, Victoria is just Victoria, his master. Same thing goes for Albert; her highness is his master, too. The filmmaker knows who wears the pants in this palace. Lounging around the conjugal bed, the day after they consummate their marriage, the moviegoer notices how Victoria elongates her body over Albert. She's on top, and never switches off to an overtly submissive position(i.e. under the man); she does, however, have a girlish side, too, which makes "The Young Victoria", simultaneously, romantic and ludicrous, especially during the holiday in the rain sequence. Lucky for Albert, fate gives him the chance to earn his spurs. Not only does the philanthropist(via Victoria's wealth) have a bleeding heart, he actually gets to bleed. Since Albert is good, the Queen of England lets the prince have a desk just like hers, and go on to rule as "equals".… Expand

In my opinion, the coveted fifth spot up for grabs in the Best Actress Oscar race this year should go to Emily Blount. All credits are top notch, especially Sandy Powell's costumes and Julian Fellows script. but Ms. Blount carries the picture in the same way that Cate Blanchett was Elizabeth. Emily Blunt is very much excellent in this film, and definitely deserving of her Golden Globe nomination. Also, technically (especially when it comes to costume design and art direction/set decoration) the film excels. Also, very predictable and very "royal" in a way of character building. Yes, royalty is supposed to be all "royal" to the "common people" but they are real people, too, and that came across rather rarely, mainly due to the sceenplay. So basically, despite being visually great and with good performances, ultimately the story is so usual and so predictable (irrelevant on whether it is actually accurate historically or not - probably not completely, anyway) that one is left somewhat unsatisfied with the film. But it surely is not a bad film, by any stretch of the word. Definitely recommended to be watched for the great costumes and Emily Blunt's performance!… Expand

More than anything else, this is a simple love story between the young Queen, and her Prince. It's - seemingly - historically accurate and, actually made me want to know more about Victoria and Albert's twenty-year reign.

Young Victoria is an unbelievably sumptuous period drama with great turns from it's strong cast. Better still, the movie is genuinely moving and romantic without feeling forced. An excellent film.

It was a pleasure to see Paul Bethany, Miranda Richardson and Jim Broadbent used so well as were many others. What truly stands out here is not just the overall quality of the film but the historical accuracy. This deserved a lot more attention than it received and in some respects was actually better than The King's Speech.… Expand

Though Blunt and the other actors are at their very best, the film feels overstuffed. As it tries to showcase many characters and multiple years of Victoria's reign, it has the problem of feeling both incomplete and overstuffed. If it wants to introduce this many characters, it needs more runtime. If it cuts some characters, it still needs to be longer to bring every other subplot to an end. That said, the technical elements here are very good with terrific costume design, production design, and makeup/hairstyling. All are pitch perfect and perfectly capture the 1800s England feel with the correct importance and weight to the sets. The film is also well paced, even if the story does not deliver fully. Overall, The Young Victoria is an ambitious biopic that has terrific acting and a great look, but would have been better off trimming some fat and expanding on a few things to paint a more concise and direct picture.… Expand

This film tells the events surrounding the ascension to the throne of Queen Victoria of Great Britain, one of the most striking and well-remembered queens that the country has had to date. Directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, has a script by Julian Fellowes, the direction of Sarah Ferguson (former Duchess of York) and features Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend in the lead roles.

Although the film doesn't have a completely neutral script, it sought to portray the truth of historical facts, even failing to judge them impartially and having some historical inaccuracies in the middle. When a historical film is made it shouldn't change the history portrayed, even for dramatic purposes. But this unfortunately costs to understand for most directors and writers. The sets and costumes are excellent and are fully consistent with the time, the picture isn't surprising but does what it has to do, the soundtrack uses reasonably well pieces of classical music in vogue at the time. Most actors fulfill their functions, especially the rotten duo Miranda Richardson and Mark Strong. Emily Blunt, however, has earned stardom by giving life to a dreamy and passionate Victoria, still ignored by us and obscured by the queen she would become later. The film managed to capture the relationship between Victoria and Albert in a very forceful way, such as the importance of that for the re-popularization of the monarchy during that time.

This film tries to be a historical drama with deep touches of romance, taking the lives and loves of Victoria to show us that a monarchy is not only gold, sex and scandals. It fulfilled that purpose appealing to the audience's heart with a Victoria who we managed to like, and that's far from the unpleasant old lady that comes to our minds most of the time.… Expand

This is a pretty well made historical drama, with lots of lavish dances and pageantry shown. I liked the costumes and the cinematography generally. It may be regarded as a little sentimental perhaps but I think it's a pretty decent film. all in all - just not exactly greatly memorable but equally not bad. I should note that there were quite a few instances of hushed dialogue, which I found a bit hard to follow entirely and so might frustrate some.… Expand

This is a very romantic movie about a young woman in direct line to become a Queen, who finds true love despite the political forces trying to manipulate her. Should appeal to anyone interested in history and romance.
