"The Wolverine" doesn't diverge from its' comic book source, to its' benefit, but I found the ending to be too comical for my taste. The first half of the movie starts off strongly, and delivers us a tortured Logan, whose actions in X-Men 3:"The Wolverine" doesn't diverge from its' comic book source, to its' benefit, but I found the ending to be too comical for my taste. The first half of the movie starts off strongly, and delivers us a tortured Logan, whose actions in X-Men 3: The Last Stand haunt him still. It's a powerful beginning, but like I said, it turns into an all out comic brawl. The ending scenes are whimsical comic fun, but it hurts the serious tone that James Mangold intended to create. It's okay, and better than the last solo Wolverine film, but it doesn't compare well to the actual X-Men movies, except perhaps The Last Stand.… Expand

The Wolverine is not as good as the first two X-Men films, which were very good and great respectively. That is not to say that The Wolverine had no shortcomings either. There is some illogical scripting, the romance is a bit forced and the extended scenes that has it bogs the film down, the ending is a bit too rushed, some scenes dragged and were a touch repetitive and the Japanese characters were very under-written and not at all interesting. What The Wolverine does do that improves on Origins and Last Stand is that it isn't anywhere near as bad as trying to incorporate too many subplots and too many characters and then develop hardly any of them. The film looks great, the special effects improved over those from Origins, it's slickly edited, it's shot cohesively and it has a beautifully dark look that gives it both a grit and audaciousness. The music is suitably dynamic and while not completely action-enhancing it at least fits. The story is not perfect, but there was a dark intensity there, some unexpected twists and turns and I didn't have too much trouble following it, while the action is smartly handled especially the Throne of Blood-like ninja fight and the one on the superfast train. The funeral one was reasonably fun too but was over too quickly. James Mangold does valiantly and unlike Brett Ratner and Gavin Hood he is actually comfortable throughout instead of being good in one aspect(the action) and not in the other. The performances are fine, although Tao Okamoto's beauty is nowhere near enough to salvage her bland acting. Rila Yukushima's acrobatics dazzle and of the femme fatales Svetlana Khodchenkova is even better, slinky and formidable. But Hugh Jackman gives the best performance, a very powerful performance while being subdued, it was nice to see some depth to him this time when in Last Stand and Origins he was moody for the sake of it seemingly and not much else. The Japanese culture was very nicely done and gave the film some diversity. To conclude, a decent and quite enjoyable film that serves as a better but still not perfect origins story. 6.5/10 Bethany Cox… Expand

Me parece mejor que la primera (aunque no mucho) pero me parece atrevida dado que es una película nipona practicamente dado que la película transcurre casi completamente allí, lo cual para salir de lo que es lo corriente esta muy bien para mi gusto, refresca. Esta es una película mucho más "adulta" que la primera, se construye muy bien tanto Lobezno como el resto de personajes que le acompañan y el drama que tiene el personaje de Lobezno durante todo el largometraje es un ejemplo de lo adulto de la película que hacía mención antes.

La película tiene acción, tiene muy buenos efectos, pero si que quizá le falta algo de "chicha", algo más de acción dado que aunque tenga ya ese tono más adulto sigue siendo en mi opinión una película de mutantes y su función es la de entretener. Le hubiera facilitado mucho la vida a esta película una calificación R, porque se queda un poco a medio camino. Me sigue convenciendo mucho Jackman en el papel de Lobezno, cada día me gusta más este actor, muy conocido pero que yo apenas había disfrutado en pantalla.

Para acabar, es una buena película, entretiene y está bien construida que a mi me ha gustado pero si que a veces hechas en falta algo de acción, porque es principalmente por lo que venimos a ver la película. Y, que no se confunda nadie porque Japón no es el problema, es el acierto. Notable.… Expand

In an unusual and away from the common team plots scenario, Wolverine returns in a much more solid than the previous film and brings some good surprises.

I really liked the Nagasaki nuclear attack scenes. The silver samurai might be to much, but arent all villains in the Marvel Universe. Not the best Marvel film, but above average.… Expand

How did it turn out? Pretty good overall. It's still nothing historic, but it gets the job done thanks to some impressive action scenes, good acting and some decent writing. This is a good superhero movie with a good plot. It also features plenty of action. It starts off as being a little bit boring at first, but eventually gets more and more interesting. It has a strong climax and an unusual twist at the end.

The one thing holding this film back from being great is it's PG-13 rating we get good action but it gets ruined by the lack of blood that should be flying everywhere as Wolverine slashes through everyone. The humor and swearing is surprisingly uninfected by the PG-13 rating and is pretty damn funny. The pacing and the way this movie looks is stunning,my favorite part of this movie is when Wolverine is crouched outside a motel in Japan (this whole movie mostly takes place in Japan) pouring with rain. The lighting and cinematography in this scene is damn near perfect and it gave me chills,you should definitely check it out if you're are Wolverine or X-men fan.… Expand

Finally - a superhero movie that doesn't feel like every other superhero movie. The Wolverine proves that it's possible to have a movie based on a comic book franchise that doesn't involve mass destruction, the fate of the planet, and aFinally - a superhero movie that doesn't feel like every other superhero movie. The Wolverine proves that it's possible to have a movie based on a comic book franchise that doesn't involve mass destruction, the fate of the planet, and a seemingly indestructible bad guy. The Wolverine is a surprisingly personal, intimate tale (at least insofar as an X-Men spinoff can be considered "intimate") - more of a crime story with superhero flavoring than an all-out CGI effects action orgy. That's not to intimate there's no action - there's enough to keep Wolverine fans involved, including a tremendous train-top chase/fight - but The Wolverine is character-based. That's something none of the other 2013 superhero movies can boast.

As a brand, "Wolverine" has taken something of a hit. It started with a fan backlash against the third film in the original X-Men trilogy and continued into the lackluster origin story, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Toning things down is probably the right direction to take the character, at least for a single story. It allows us to re-connect with Logan (Hugh Jackman) in the post-X-Men: Last Stand universe. When the movie begins, he's alone and isolated. The Wolverine is about his coming to grips with his immortality and his quest to put his past behind him and arrive at a place where he can return to his role as a "soldier." It also involves Logan's tentative steps toward loving someone other than Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), whose image dominates his dreams and nightmares.

The majority of The Wolverine transpires in Japan, which lends the movie an exotic flair. He's there to bid farewell to an old compatriot, billionaire industrialist Yashida (Hal Yamanouchi), who lies on his dying bed. When the old man dies, Logan becomes the unwitting protector of his granddaughter, Mariko (Tao Okamoto), who has been targeted for kidnapping by the Yakuza. Mariko's closest childhood friend, Yukio (Rila Fukushima), becomes Logan's sidekick, and he is aided in his quest by another of Mariko's protectors, Kenuichio Harada (Will Yun Lee). There's also a mutant involved: the mysterious Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova), whose ultimate goals are unclear but whose methods, such as robbing Wolverine of his self-healing powers, are deadly.

The Wolverine's director, James Mangold, is better known for drama than action, and much of the material in this movie plays to his strengths. The exception is the climax, which comes across as disappointingly generic in the wake of a mostly fresh first 90 minutes. Mangold does a better job with thriller elements and character interaction than he does with the introduction of a robot that looks like it got lost on the way to Iron Man 3.

This is, of course, Hugh Jackman's movie, and no one comes close to upstaging him. Jackman, one of the more charismatic actors currently working in superhero movies, is fully invested in this project. His eye-popping physique is on full display in a topless scene; he looks more like Schwarzenegger in his prime than the guy who played Jean Valjean. Jackman evidences some nice chemistry with his two female co-stars: Rile Fukushima, who executes a lot of martial arts stunts as Robin to Wolverine's Batman, and model-turned-actress Tao Okamoto, who plays the love interest. Svetlana Khodchenkova's Viper and Will Yun Lee's Harada are underused - The Wolverine could have done more with them and less with the big silver samurai robot.

The change-of-pace evident in The Wolverine saves it from the "just another superhero" movie label and offers an antidote to the fatigue that may have set in for the populace in general. Sometimes smaller is the way to go and Jackman's abilities are perfectly suited for a movie that requires some acting to accompany the stunts and special effects. And, for those who like post-credits Easter eggs, The Wolverine offers a big, memorable one. Whatever you do, don't leave until you've seen it (you'll know it when it happens about 1/3 of the way through the end credits). It's the cherry on the top of an otherwise tasty summer treat.… Expand

As an adaptation of the Japanese mini-series, I think this one is pretty good for a Wolverine-based movie. Also, if you haven’t watched it yet, stay longer in the theater for the post-credit scenes. One of the best so far!
