"Thank you so much......for being my friends".

In my humble opinion this might be one of Adam Sandlers best works especially before he embarked on his 1000 picture Netflix contract. We have here a simple story. Adam Sandler plays a young man with (we assume although not directly referenced) Aspergers who has an obsession with the proper maintenance and distribution of H2O to college football athletes. All seems lost when he is inexplicably fired and is forced to begin a voyage of discovery as he is proceeds to take on a new job as Waterboy for a rival football team coached by the exceedingly excellent Henry Winkler.

As with most Adam Sandler movies please check the brain at the door and don't take anything too seriously. If you can agree with those pre-requisites there is a lot to enjoy here. As said, Winkler shines here as the shell of a man Coach Kline haunted by his past and Cathy Bates is excellent as the over protective mother sheltering Bobby from the hostilities of the real world. The film is endlessly quotable and many things have continued to sustain a penetrance into the pop culture vernacular, "You can do it!" comes to mind. Roy Schneider and Clint Howard also pop in for their scene stealing cameos as in most Sandler movies.

Overall, the Waterboy stands the test of time and brought a smile to my face many years after first watching it with my Dad as we both laughed maniacally all those years ago. If I had a criticism, if anything, the narrative could have been slightly better strung together and might have benefitted from a slightly longer run time to make things a little more cohesive. As a commentary on the treatment of those with Aspergers, probably best not to think too hard about it. However, the laughs are plentiful and Sandlers performance gets you thoroughly invested in the plights of this troubled individual who is often the target for the big bullies with which he must work. A heart warming comedy that no doubt I will return to again and again.

"Now that's what I call high quality H20".

The funniest of all Sandler's films. Yes, Waterboy is even funnier than Happy Gilmore. The characters are all developed well and each of them delivers a different twist on a personality type.

An unwatchable film where Adam Sandler tries to be as annoying as possible, and succeeds. There is no universe in which this should be considered a movie

When he loses his job, he takes up a similar position for a local college team until his previously unknown tackling skills are accidentally discovered. I think most would agree that Sandler’s output over the last 10-15 years has been almost uniformly awful, but back in the 90’s he did make some funny movies, and this is one of the better ones. Of course, if you don’t like his style of comedy you won’t like what you see here, but for those that are fans there are a good number of laughs to be had. Expand

Adam Sandler's voice in this movie is like nails on a chalkboard! It's so bad! One of the worst comedies I've ever seen! So bad on so many levels. Here's to hoping his next film won't be as obnoxious.

This is Sandlers stupidest film. He plays off dumb potty humor with little laughs. This is really his worse film (Jack and Jill doesn't count) and one of the 90's worst films.

It was possible to laugh in some scenes, but this, overall, was not very funny. It stars Adam Sandler as the title role, a 31-year-old named Bobby Boucher with the obnoxious voice of a 10-year-old, who has been bringing water to football teams for a lot of his life. He becomes angry when he is insulted early on, and he tackles the man who insulted him quite hard, leading the football team's coach to believe he is fit for the team. The problem is he is true to his "mama", who says he cannot play football and that it is "the devil" (like almost everything else, in her opinion). I would not recommend this is you can stand 90 minutes of asinine, juvenile humor. Otherwise, go ahead--you'll laugh a lot. Expand

I cant say I particularly disliked this movie but I cant say I liked it either, I liked what it had to offer, but it didn't offer much. This movie earns a passing grade, albeit barely.

The Waterboy

1 And A Half Out Of 5

The Waterboy is a plot driven sketchy feature that depicts a journey of a self-undermining boy to his destiny. There are few tricks and treats involved in the last act to hold the audience despite of being predictable as it was all established in its previous acts for it took all of its time to set the plot and characters with their specific characteristics that easily bored the viewers. It is short on technical aspects like background score, costume design, cinematography, editing, sound department and surprisingly humor too. The humor in here is cheap and ludicrous as the fatal attempts to draw a chuckle from the audience grows as it ages on screen and it ache to watch the writers sweat behind the camera in order to do so. The screenplay by Tim Herlihy and Adam Sandler is actually cheap shot even for a commercial cinema for if it attracts viewers that it always raises the question of its existence. Frank Coraci; the director needs a lot of work to do on his execution skills for he barely is able to pull off a sketchy comic sequence. The performance is mediocrely delivered by Adam Sandler and addition to that isn't supported to the essential extent by its supporting cast like Kathy Bates and Henry Winkler. The Waterboy is a vacuous match of no thrill or joy for it is based on a wafer thin concept which clearly isn't enough to feed the audience.
