I absolutely love "The Transformers: The Movie". The performances are so earnest and they bring in the levity exactly when it is needed and no more. The performances are so earnest and they bring in the levity exactly when it is needed and no more. The story becomes this grandiose adventure where there is no way to guess ahead of time where it might be going. For anyone who spent time with the 1980's cartoon series, this is a must see. For everyone else, you are expected to already understand the characters that were established on the TV show, so I recommend suffering through a couple of episodes first to get the most from the movie, but even without the TV show background, there is a wonderful story and beautiful hand drawn animation to appreciate. I give it an A, make a point to go see this movie. Expand

Big fan of this film that set after season 2 and before season 3, amazing soundtracks, lots of Action and Adventure and funny moments. This is one of the best anime movie ever ^o^

The movie is rough around the edges, with occasional dips in both audio and animation quality. However it's saved by the consistent use of tone and direction by the production team. All in all, a 7/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Transformers: The Movie undoubtedly features the best animation presented in the original cartoon, and possesses iconic moments within the Transformers franchise, such as the brutal massacre of the Autobots within the shuttle scene and the death of Optimus Prime. The movie notably slows down after the Battle of Autobot City and still contains some animation errors, but overall is a solid entrance for the G1 continuity. Expand
