'The Swarm' is not precisely horror, but what this family undergoes is truly terrifying: a mother willing to "bleed herself out" to provide for her loved ones — a living nightmare for the middle class.

I really liked the way director Just Philippot and his team masked the lack of budget. But the best thing is the sound design; the constant buzzing of the grasshoppers feels menacing almost all the time, auguring an ill-fated ending.

Also, great acting from Suliane Brahim and Sofian Khammesas — the mother and daughter —; their conflict eventually turns into the heart of the film. Unfortunately, there are little surprises here, and it feels like the screenwriters wanted to tell too much in so little time.

In its heart it's a horror film, although its primary characteristics are more focused on drama and suspense.

A mother desperate to save her business and cover her bills opens a Pandora's box with something that will inevitably end very badly. And that's evident from the first minute.

It stands out for the creepy moments and because it doesn't complicate itself.
The Swarm may seem like a story that tries to look far-fetched with its tale of vampiric insects, but it's actually very practical. I just would have liked a more stimulating pace.

Another indie movie that pretends to be "deep", but actually verges sharply into the stupid ditch. Yeah, it'sAnother indie movie that pretends to be "deep", but actually verges sharply into the stupid ditch. A lady has a struggling business selling locusts for farm feed, and her business is saved because they thrive on blood. ANY blood. Yeah, it's very clear she can use literally ANY blood from any source and her problems are solved. So...she uses HER blood. Because of course she does. I mean wouldn't we all? And just to make sure you lose every last shred of empathy for her, she throws a screaming puppy in to be devoured alive. You know, like any of us would... These filmmakers need to go back to film school, or maybe like human being school. Expand

Very much recommend The Swarm on Netflix. A classic slow burn horror that combines b-movie creature features with a sort of French arthouse take. Awesome stuff. True psychological horror. Deep and creep !
