Wright's peculiar style of narration, unraveling the story in a somewhat unconventional style, actually amplifies the impact the story leaves on the audience. As for the score and cinematography, a better job couldn't have been possibly done as the atmospheric style totally suits the storyline. Even though Joel Edgerton delivers an acceptable performance as a character living a dual life, one must admit that it is Sean Harris who carries the whole movie with his nuanced yet powerhouse delivery. One tiny bit of criticism: I am sure they could have come up with a much better and more intriguing title than "The Stranger". Expand

Excellent atmosphere, really unnerving in a good way. Slow burn with a unique twist.

Director and screenwriter Thomas M. Wright sure knows how to slowly build this true crime story, but, in the end, it feels like we've barely come to know these people. The disjointed execution is also kind of problematic; the blurring between reality and nightmares is disquieting, but it leads to nothing. Thankfully, Joel Edgerton and Sean Harris' acting is enough to keep you watching, although the end doesn't feel climatic at all. Either way, you have to appreciate the unconventional approach Wright and his team took. Expand

Este thriller policiaco es de aquellos que juegan con la paciencia del espectador, aunque para bien, con un desarrollo pausado aunque intrigante, con secuencias casi silenciosas y un final difícil de predecir que deja más preguntas que respuestas.

Its style reminded me of Villeneuve's Prisoner, which is not necessarily a compliment, but as far as it goes, the director, despite being new to this, manages to give a certain distinction to what he does.

I was expecting a more oppressive film taking into account what its plot explores, however I like how it handles the ups and downs of its main characters, Joel Edgerton and Sean Harris who are excellent in this story, even when the script in some passages does not make it very clear what is the purpose of their path, even so the film is more than captivating if you love a good slow burner.

It is very sad to know that this movie will be lost very soon in the Netflix catalog. I definitely would have paid a ticket to see it.

A man meets another man on the bus. This acquaintance is doing some illegal business. The other is asking for help from it. Then, over time, the man rises in these jobs. Over time, the place of duty of the man he met on the bus changes. This is meeting higher men. But the man has a secret. A child was kidnapped in the past and was never found again. This man has also been prosecuted as a suspect. But he denied it and there is no evidence. That's why he had to be released. Will this event come before him in the criminal organization?

The movie has sexual implications, no nudity.

Kudos to Sean Harris for pulling off one of the best Aussie accents by a non-Australian to be heard in movies.
