I remember sending my friend a message right after I saw it that if it didn't win the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay I'd never watch the Oscars again, I'm sticking with that :smileyvery-happy:

Seriously every bit of dialogue just flows so incredible back and forth, it has a rhythm to it not that uncommon of the best classic film noirs, this is Sorkin taken to the next level, there's not a second dumbed down and the man will pack exchanges with as much humor as venom that helps sketch an early idea of who Zuckerberg will become. I never even realized also until the second time seeing it how perfectly Sorkin bookended the narrative. The film's writing is just, :smileyvery-happy: ..it's ridiculous. The man is able to make scenes in what for the most part is a drama more funny and amusing than most comedies this year while being able to flip a switch and creating tension and action on screen through exchanges that most thrillers this year couldn't even dream to approach. I just can't stress enough how much I love the screenplay for this film.

"The Social Network" could end up defining this generation. It was witty and over the top where it needed to be while still being able to show the "sensitive" side of a boy who really just wanted to create something "cool". While the movie"The Social Network" could end up defining this generation. It was witty and over the top where it needed to be while still being able to show the "sensitive" side of a boy who really just wanted to create something "cool". While the movie ends with Zuckerman searching for friendship, he ended up creating the greatest social networking site ever. It is interesting to think about what today's world would be like without Facebook. Also, Sean Parker's role in the creation of facebook was somewhat unknown until now and while the movie did take some creative liberties it is interesting to see the dynamic between Parker and Zuckerman. The best part of the movie was actually the soundtrack (an amazing job down by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails), which ended up making each scene that Mark Zuckerman an intense thrill ride as he took on the system and later on his colleagues. Overall a job well done. Expand

I'm not sure this film has the repeatable factor for me as far as the story goes, so don't know if I'll buy the Blu-Ray at this point (thus the 9 instead of a 10), but I was absorbed the first time I saw it and couldn't wait to see how it turned out at the end. The story is well written, and the ensemble is just amazing in their acting. Jesse Eisenberg really surprised me with his portrayal of Zuckerberg; remembering him from Zombieland, I didn't think he could pull it off. I was wrong because he could. Justin Timberlake has proven himself to be an all-around talented guy, an entertainer of the 21st century. A good #4 on my big board with another classic by David Fincher. Eisenberg delivers the second of what I think may lead to be many great performances with good support from breakthrough actor Andrew Garfield. In one phrase: "Fincher did it again."

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok, I know I'm simply parroting ever other critic, but in a lot of ways this film really was one to define a generation. Like most people, my gut reaction when seeing the trailer for the first time was, "Really? A Facebook movie?" But the more I thought about it, the more I put the pieces together, the more the movie began to make sense. David Fincher, Aaron Sorkin, and Jessie Eisenberg- all the elements where there to make a great film, and say what you will, like it or not, Facebook has become a huge part of pop-culture, and slowly but surly engaging itself in our day -to-day culture.

First you had to have a verified college email, then they added the high-school section. The News Feed was introduced, then all of a sudden anyone and everyone could sign up for Facebook. Now I know a lot of adults and even grandparents that have a Facebook to keep up with family and friends who use it way more than even I would ever do. Facebook has forever changed the way we keep in contact with people and a movie like 'The Social Network' definitely has interest in today's market, and relevance in today's culture. Plus the fact that it was so expertly executed makes it that much more of a statement.

While I have always admired Arron Sorkin and enjoyed his work, I always found his writing to be a little overly dramatic/ bordering on melodramtic. 'Studio 60 on The Sunset Strip' is a perfect example of this: a great series who's only flaw was that it seemed to take itself just as seriously as 'The West Wing'. His screenplay for this film, however, showed a new level that that I have never seen before in his writing. With some of the best dialogue I've heard in years, and an excellent structure, 'The Social Network' was so engaging, yet written so smartly, that I completely believed every performance, every scene, from beginning to end.

There were two specific moments of writing that exemplified why the screenplay as a whole was so strong. First was the opening scene, which was one of the best written conversations have has seen on the screen in years. Not only was the dialogue engaging, but it also gave a very specific voice to Zuckerbergs's character that was essential to setting up the film as a whole. The other scene was when Edwardo's crazy girlfriend gets mad at him for not changing his relationship status on his Facebook page, to which he replies, "I didn't know how to." I just love how they were able to squeeze in a part about the stupid pointless drama that surrounds teenagers on Facebook. Definitely the biggest laugh of the film for me.

This film was so strong because it obviously had a voice, and that voice came from one man: David Fincher. A director revered by film school kids as being cool with a strong visual style, but never really getting the attention of critics or The Acadamy until recently, David Fincher seems to being moving beyond his flashy camera moves exemplified in 'Panic Room' into in a much more refined storytelling director that's bringing a maturity to his work that is astounding. Looking at his move from 'Fight Club' to 'Benjamin Button', we are seeing a new era in Fincher's career in which a lot of a really great work is still yet to come. There have only been a handful of directors over the years that have managed to make a career of garnering both critical and box-office acclaim such as **** or Steven Speilberg, and this is exactly the direction Fincher is moving if he keeps up this pace.

The film was very tastefully executed in that Fincher's camera was deliberately un-intrusive. The only visually flashy scene was in the rowing competition with his use of tilt-shift lenses, which honestly felt a little out of place in the entire context of the film, but undoubtably looked awesome on its own, which was fine for me.

But in the end, what really drove this film and connected with the audience was Jessie Eisenberg's brilliant yet subtle performance of Mark Zuckerberg. Eisenberg has been kind of a dark horse recently, with surprisingly brilliant performances coming from a wide variety of films just within the last couple years. Here is a actor with a unique charisma and style, yet within each film fully immerses himself into a completely different character that brings an honesty to each performance that is impossible to teach. This film definitely is a coming-out party for him on the major Hollywood stage, showing he has the potential to carry some really great films in the future. This is not the last we have seen of Jesse Eisenberg, in fact I believe this is only the beginning.

I mean, we could literally sit here all day analyzing the subtle nuances of the film; it just comes down to how much you want to read into it. For example, I could argue that Mark Zuckerberg was

The acting was great across the board, and other than Justin Timberlake (casting him was one of the film's minor flaws) there were no over the top performances and that made the whole situation more reality based. It's depiction of today's culture was spot-on and its themes of greed, friendship, and betrayal were perfectly realized within the storyline. The direction and cinematography were fantastic as well. This movie tells an(maybe not the) amazing story of friendship and betrayal. Don't think that this movie is really directed at the "Facebook generation." The story is one that's been since the beginning of storytelling itself. Jesse Eisenberg shines as Mark Zuckerberg. I was pleasantly surprised with how well he was able to portray this kind of character, given what I've seen of his roles in Adventureland and Zombieland (though, to be fair, I haven't seen either of those in their entirety). Andrew Garfield is great as Eduardo, Armie Hammer delivers a really well done, believable performance as the Winklevoss twins, and Justin Timberlake was strong portraying Sean Taylor, the young founder of Napster who manages to worm his way into the Facebook empire.

On top of the great acting, Fincher's expected great directed, and the well-written dialogue from Aaron Sorkin, this movie's score really shines. I have a bit of bias here, as I'm a huge Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails fan, but I feel that he and Atticus Ross really portrayed the feel of everything that was happening, while still maintaining the trademark sound they've been known to produce when collaborating.

No, not in recent years as most people are saying, but of all time. The dialogue is absolutely perfect, but the delivery is what really makes this. It's a movie about dialogue that keeps you on the edge of your seat in the way a movie like Inception would. Each line is said in a snap, but not in a way that makes you lose track though. It also helps that the movie has a fantastic premise, fantastic cast and fantastic soundtrack made by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, which I highly recommend you download. Expand

This film chronicles the rise of social networking site Facebook, and the legal battles among its founders that followed. This movie takes the amazing script by Aaron Sorkin and turns it into a masterpiece with beautiful direction by David Fincher (Fight Club, Se7en). The performances by principle actors Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield amazed as well. Eisenberg plays the awkward facebook founder Mark Zuckerbeg, who is easily swayed by the idea of power and money, but always has a certain girl on his mind. Garfield stuns as Eduardo Saverin, his jilted best friend going through problems of his own as Zuckerberg slowly muscles him out with the help of Sean Parker (justin Timberlake). I was slightly dissapointed as to how they had portrayed Zuckenburg seeing as he is one of the worlds modern geniuses. However, the dialogue scenes involving him were snappy, geeky and funny. Timberlake didn't do too badly, a little bit too much hollywood but overall an assured performance to finally rid him of his childhood acting hoodoo. The best acting performance came from Andrew Garfield, who's realism rebounded off the screen through both his happy times and jealous times. The twins were annoying but that added an almost villainous effect to their personalities. The directing was impressive and the screenplay was excellent. It was able to put across the dark undertones of the internet's favourite invention. It was a good film but I'm still not sure what the critics find so 'mesmerizing'. Expand

Audiences generally want a clearer villain, but even the dirtiest characters in Fincher's movie earn some sympathy and/or admiration, all while the Facebook content at the center of the movie turns each player into a vessel of societal critique. It's more than a bit troubling that a movie that stares us so sternly in the collective face doesn't know what to say except we're lonely and that's dangerous. And it really is a movie that you just need to see to understand the appeal, because on paper it sounds somewhat standard and less than spectacular. However, one thing that stands out in the film as something I feel good enough commenting on are the performances. Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, and Justin Timberlake are almost equally amazing in their respective roles, and all deserving of Oscar nominations. Seeing Zuckerburg's online presentations, reading about privacy issuesWhen I first saw that hollywood was going to create a movie about "Facebook," I was disappointed on the lack of ideas. Really, a movie created about this social network. Seeing Zuckerburg's online presentations, reading about privacy issues related to FB, and knowing just a brief history of how it became; I thought this movie would not have the content necessary to be great. But after seeing Jesse's performance and coming from a graphic designer's standpoint of idea's, common creative licenses and protection for your work, this movie had a profound impact on my world aside from the actual social network itself. The performances were outstanding, though hollywood embedded needless drama for some aspects of the movie, it was great overall and enjoyable. This movie is not an action movie. It is about the details of laws, privacy complaints, groupies, and the dialog. This is not Call of Duty, modern warefare. So, if you have issues about dialog, then maybe there needs to be more dialog as this world itself does nothing but text. I seriously doubt, anyone can look at anyone else in the eye anymore and explain to them via voice without any medium between them to another individual. It definitely shows the lack of social behaviors that are lost through technology as how I take it. Anyone can come up with their own theories and that is great. But, I definitely enjoyed it, especially since I am not ADD and do not need to text, or tweet every two seconds. If you are that person, this is a movie for you. Expand

David Fincher directs along with his crack team of technical experts producing a stunning visual effect. Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross developed a gorgeous soundtrack the works seamlessly with the modern and edgy feel of the film. Aaron Sorkin brings the same level of intelligence here that he brought to the West Wing, crafting a full-bodied and tension filled script that, while occasionally a bit too-clever for its own good, is ultimately a master class adaptation of the source material. And finally, the young actors on display here are extremely promising and well cast, particularly Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, and Rooney Mara. Sorkin went over expectations and brings a three-way point of view story telling making it all into one and at the same time making it flow as very smoothly. This film can easily draw audiences in by presenting a simple plot that people are familiar with and showing one of the greatest events that there is in story making. And that is the rise to power. Eisenberg does a great job of showing his struggle with power, backstabbing, and moral obligation. It runs a very intelligent course and provides the audience to make its own decisions between right and wrong. "The Facebook Movie" has a deep perspective into this complex story and is perhaps one of the greatest accounts on a true event story of our time. This will certainly be mentioned later in the year during the awards season, but I believe that even beyond the awards season, it will not be the last time we hear about the brilliant story telling of The Social Network. First up, the story. There's no point explaining, being that this is a true story about the creation of Facebook. However, the story-TELLING is what really makes this makes this a masterpiece. This remarkable tale of greed, power and trust is what draws the viewer in and makes them want more. Acting is where it starts to fall flat. As far as I rememeber, there was only one character I found that was actually interesting and likable. Justin Timberlake. The dude seriously needs to do this more often, he portrayed a great example of the everyday **** (unsurprisingly the creator of Napster) and showed lots of energy and personality in him. Everyone else probably had 1% enthusiasm. Overall, a great movie if you can look past its casting flaws. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. People kept telling me this movie was overrated... Maybe they were right. It was great. It was entertaining, interesting, and full of attractive people. I think the trailer somewhat misrepresented the film by making it seem like their Mark Zuckerberg's life leading up to Facebook was a total party when in actuality, he has 2 drunk teenage girls over as a result of Sean Parker in one scene.

Besides the trailer, the performance by Andrew Garfield was phenomenal. Watching his attempts to deal with his best friend slowly screwing him over makes you want to jump out of your seat. His expressions were perfect. Did I mention that he's extremely attractive?

For that matter, all of the performances were great. The scenes were well played. Some of my favorite scenes in the movie (possibly my favorite scenes in a movie ever) are when Eduardo slams Mark's laptop down in the end and says, "You better lawyer up because I'm not coming back for 30%, I'm coming back for everything.", the look on their faces when they both get blow jobs in a public restroom, and Eduardo walking in from the rain to see Sean Parker making the Facebook crew into a drunken joke.

I enjoyed it. It was memorable. The use of montage was awesome.

I loved the West Wing, and this was definitely an extended version of an episode. It did lack something, which is why I don't really think it's a 10 type movie (definitely not monumental except maybe for someone who hasn't seen a lot of movies?)---but it definitely tells a story that grabs you and keeps you there, even if you find the dialogue a little too precious/contrived--and some of the characters a little too over the top (which seems intended). But still, highly recommended given the dredge that's out there.

This said, this movie is pure fiction. I have worked in Silicon Valley, and yes, at Facebook as well. This is NOT how Mark Zuckerberg acts in real life. He is an extremely driven individual and he is focused entirely on changing the world.

The movie seems to make it seem bad that MZ gets annoyed at people that aren't as smart as he is, but honestly, this is the real world. If you're a CEO of any company that succeeds on a large scale, you have to manage your time INCREDIBLY judiciously. You do not have time to listen to whiners or complainers or people who just aren't going anywhere. It's harsh, but you don't get to the top by wasting time. Of course, the feel-good Hollywood types abhor this sort of reality, so they demonize Mark for it.

In short, the movie's good, but it's fiction.

The Social Network is as good a movie as you could ever make about the creation of Facebook. Well acted, memorable and pleasingly lightweight. Great stuff all the way around from David Fincher.

Highest recommendation. Fast-paced, intelligent, relevant, incisive. This'll be one of those movies that people will watch in years to come to understand what we and our lives were like at the beginning of the new millenium.

The first-rate dialogue is hawked out so robot-like that the viewer is left to listen intently, soley dependent on what is being said; not aided by any nonverbally generated nuances or suggestions. Besides the fleet of colloquy, the film shines by the creativity of Finscher and Sorkin who compensate and make up for the perpetual irksomeness that emanates from the stereotypical, hackneyed prepsters, who feel numb as they wallow under the guidance of cinematic grandeur. ----Verdict: Everything barring the characters themselves is abberantly special. Jesse Eisenberg deserves an Oscar, Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake, and Rooney Mara all deserve nominations and this film itself deserves induction into the American Film Institute. The thing about The Social Network is that with all the garbage released in the theaters worldwide, this one has the same flare of a wide release film, but the pure awesomeness of a limited release film. The writing is perfect. It had absolutely no flaws anywhere. Writing this good doesn't come around often, so if you love amazing films, you cannot call yourself a movie lover if you do not see this film. Go, run as fast as you can to the nearest video store and GET THIS FILM. I cannot even describe it well enough. That is how awesome this movie is; it is so good that my mind cannot put it in words. David Fincher, you have your name and style written all over this movie and you should be proud: it is by far the greatest American film to come out this year, maybe the best of the decade and one of the best of all time. THINGS ARE GOING SO FAST THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO BE LEFT BEHIND. SEE THIS MOVIE AT ALL COSTS! Expand

I saw the movie a day after it won Best Picture, Director and Screenplay at the Golden Globes, and while I tried to be fair I have to admit that I was skeptical. At no point since its release have I felt very compelled to see it. First, I don't care about Facebook and second, an uber-contemporary story about relatively mundane events that took place five or so years ago just seems like boring subject matter. Only after its appearance on year-end Top 10 lists and its Golden Globes run did my curiosity override my distaste.

The result is an entertaining and frequently funny recounting of the events and lawsuits surrounding Facebook's creation. It's a little too long and very much too Hollywood, but overall it was quite an enjoyable film. Jesse Eisenberg -- who severely annoyed me with his Michael Cera impersonation in "Zombieland" -- was much better here as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, and the dialogue was terrific.

But I'm still underwhelmed by the overall product. The fact that screenwriter Aaron Sorkin has admitted fabricating parts of the script in order to make it more interesting not only seems to contradict the entire point of a contemporary historical film, but it also corroborates my initial suspicion that the story was too boring to be made in the first place (major players in the history of Facebook have generally agreed with this opinion). A film cannot succeed on snappy conversations and glib cultural references alone. More confusing is the spate of comments I saw throughout the year-end lists talking about the importance of the movie as a documentation of the modern-day shift/revolution in social communication. I was certainly hoping to see some of this, as the social and moral/ethical implications of Facebook's emergence is a fascinating topic with a bottomless pit of opportunities for engaging exploration. Unfortunately, apart from highlighting the rapid explosion of popularity and the occasional scene-let of coeds emailing the link to their buddies, this theme was largely absent. The characters in the film talked a lot about how everyone wants to "connect" and how big this is going to be, but they spent very little time addressing the "why" of the matter. What explains Facebook's popularity? Why has it apparently filled this void of communication that nobody was aware existed? What does it say about us as a culture that this is the fastest-growing phenomenon since the Ipod? Are there any possible drawbacks? These are the questions that interest me and simultaneously did not seem to interest the filmmakers. Overall, I hoped for more from a director as talented as David Fincher ("The Game," "Se7en," "Fight Club"), but from the trailers and descriptions I didn't necessarily expect more. To be sure, the direction, editing and style are impeccable, and the choice of Trent Reznor to help score the film was a good touch too. I can only partly blame Fincher for the shallowness of the script, but I blame him wholly for not delving more deeply into what could have been a very thought-provoking topic.

I just wished that nobody made a movie of me while I was alive, Mark Zuckerberg has ever said so. But it was unbearable, they made it anyway. The next question is: who on earth is Zuckerberg? The Movie based on the 2009 book by Ben MezrichI just wished that nobody made a movie of me while I was alive, Mark Zuckerberg has ever said so. But it was unbearable, they made it anyway. The next question is: who on earth is Zuckerberg? The Movie based on the 2009 book by Ben Mezrich THE ACCIDENTAL BILLIONAIRES: THE FOUNDING OF FACEBOOK, A TALE OF SEX, MONEY, GENIOUS AND BETRAYAL. Yup, the movie is about people behind the birth of Facebook, the most massive social network in our generation. In the first half of movie depicts how Zuckerberg is blogging and programming and finally ends up with launching The Facebook from his Harvard dormitory room. Someone told me, thiz movie was all about suing. Well, I think she is right. Substantively, the second half of movie is emphasizing who is the real creator of Facebook through some legal processes. Anyone can sue anyone, the question is whether he would win. There are three important characters in thiz movie. First, Jesse Eisenberg who has been in ZOMBIELAND (2010), now played as Zuckerberg, fully equipped with his slipper. Personally, I think Eisenberg sometimes talks too fast and delivers a stiff mien. His performance is just apparently adequate. The second, The Pop Star Justin Timberlake brings a precise adept and dominant charisma into his character as Napster founder, Sean Parker. The last but not the least, actually it is the best performance for overall, comes from our next Spider-Man (2012), Andrew Garfield. Garfield gives a complete emotional package for his character, a friend and new enemy as well, Edurado Saverin. Subjectively, the book ACCIDENTAL BILLIONAIRES was advised by Eduardo Saverin himself, without any involvement from Zuckerberg side. So the point of view is fittingly one-sided. The ending of the movie itself is stagnant and flat which I am kind of surprised. Thiz movie comes from one of my favorite Directors, David Fincher. Almost half of Fincher masterpieces have a smart and twist ending, just like what we found in SE7EN (1995), THE GAME (1997), and one of my favorite movies of all-time, FIGHT CLUB (1999). But on second though, I think it is already maximized anyway, considering thiz is a biography. In the end, if you asked me: why Zuckerberg and his Facebook? Why not Bill Gates? Or anyone else? I think I can see something here. One vital element that they did not get and Zuckerberg had it. It was controversy. Controversy makes things more attractive. In these days of technologies era, whoever has the ability to conquer the internet, it is simply being God himself. Visit My Blog on JONNY'S MOVEE: http://jonnyfendi.blogspot.com Expand

Yes, it is a good drama about the founding of Facebook, but what is more important is what it says about today's culture of narcissism and self importance in our youth and that scares me. I immediately recognized Aaron Sorkin's writing style based on years of watching West Wing. It is the same here, very fast, witty at times, and with Fincher's direction the movie moves along at breakneck speed. Those things don't make a best picture nominee in my mind. I didn't care for Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal of Mark Zuckerbery, but not knowing the man, it might be spot on. He has the least dialogue of all and we are supposed to understand what he is thinking by the blank expression on his face through most of the movie. I did like Andrew Garfield's portrayal of co founder Eduardo Saverin and thought he did the best job in the film. The soundtrack annoyed me, sometimes so loud I couldn't hear what the cast was saying. I hope this film isn't a true representation of what really occurred, because if so, Mark Zuckerberg is one neurotic young man..It left me with too many questions at the end. Expand

Outsmarting the smartest in unconventional ways - ways older people would have deemed ridiculous -, driving on the force of young people and their inventiveness - it's just a few of the things that make this thriller-like business film as brilliant as a film could be.
An unlikely protagonist offers unlikely and interesting plot twists, but the story remains completely believable. It starts off slowly and slightly unappealing by all its nerdiness and talk of technology, but quickly advances into a intriguing game of chess with some players highly skilled, some absolutely worthless, some pointless, some believing themselves to be the best. Sharp cutouts to the lawsuits being discussed were what kept the film refreshing and puzzling - right from the start, the viewer ponders over what may have caused the betrayal that triggered one of the lawsuits, and even at the end of the film, viewers are left puzzled over the protagonists' true feelings about it, as he had been hiding them under the sheets of a Big Bang Theory-esque mentalness for most of the film. Summing it all up, The Social Network is the brightest and best fitting movie if it comes to the subject of the 21st century, ever since the world entered the year 2000.
