Bill Hader makes a strong case for being the best actor to come out of SNL in years. Kristen Wiig is predictably Wiigish. A mostly forgettable affair--save one particular scene in a dentist office.

After a gay man (Bill Hader) attempts suicide, he moves in with his estranged, but formerly close sister (Kristen Wiig). MostAfter a gay man (Bill Hader) attempts suicide, he moves in with his estranged, but formerly close sister (Kristen Wiig). The majority of the film is spent trying to get the twosome back to the warm and loving relationship of their youth. Most of this story deals with drama and dysfunction in their lives, which becomes tiresome and repetitive. Luckily, this twosome brings their comic chops to the roles (especially Hader), which add to the appeal. While there's lots of promise and the performances are decent, the film's gloomy nature hobbles it's potential. Expand

The film has its moments, but it doesn't deserve 74/100. Its a bit predictable and to be blunt, a bit boring. I hate to say it but I feel like this site inflates the score by like 10-15 points if there is a gay protagonist or gay themes. TheThe film has its moments, but it doesn't deserve 74/100. The film is average, I certainly wouldn't recommend it. Its not very funny and despite being well acted, the characters and the dialogue are lame. Expand

Wiig's character is somewhat different from the methodical, repressed woman she played in "Hateship/Loveship," but she plays them pretty much the same. Hader seems to get every nuance of his tormented, sardonic character perfect. You go with the story because you really want these people to work things out and "be there" for each other. The film says several things about suicide, not all of which you'll agree with if you know much about the subject. The siblings illustrate the haunting effects of family dysfunction as people grow up ... but also imply that suicidal tendencies can be kind of whimsical and funny and there will always be someone there to provide an escape from the darkness. Not really true. Expand

This is a sad movie about what sometimes happens to kids who are raised in dysfunctional families. Even though grown up, they are still kids, and still dysfunctional, depressed and suicidal.

Good performances delivered by both leads. Many good jokes. This movie definitely has some potential. Unfortunately, creators of the movie tried to add some AMC-type drama at the end. Miraculous rescue at the very last moment is quite distasteful and disappointing.

Maybe I just didn't get it completely, who knows. Either way, the acting was really good and it had some funny moments added to the drama, which are the good parts. Still, the story to me seemed quite boring and at some moments I just wanted to fast forward it. Actually, the story could be retold quite easily and many parts of it actually are quite predictable. Anyway, if you want to watch BIll Hader and Kirsten Wiig play really good in a serious role, then you can watch it, but otherwise I thought it was too predictable and quite dull at moments. And actually nothing got solved at the end in my opinion Expand

crooked childhood, troubled twins..

A Skeleton Twins

A fascinating uptake with a newer perspective on dysfunctional family drama through a siblings' vision, is a smarter way to create a light but a deeply intense feature. The writing is smart, grippingly and thoroughly entertaining except for an issue on the structure of the script that follows a rudimentary process which undermines the feature as it grows predictable as it ages on screen. Craig Johnson; the screenwriter and the director, has done a marvellous work on executing the anticipated vision on screen along with amazing visuals as it is shot beautifully too. The performance by both the lead actors is stupendous but the highlight of it would be Kirsten Wiig who is the real game changer in here. Bill Hader and Kirsten Wiig's chemistry is the crucial point in here as all the connections and conversations among the "siblings" should come off believable and fortunately they are convincing too. Despite of raising fragile and dark topics, the feature is light and breezy for the most part of it which shows the awareness of the makers, as the core relation projected in here is of twins. A Skeleton Twins has a crooked childhood, troubled twins and justifying actions occurring on screen throughout its almost 90 minutes that is utterly palpable to its tone.
