well the story goes bonkers very fast, and actually not much about the "life" of Pets. I felt the movie was random, used scrit blueprints with nothing new to watch, and the ending was so fast you can miss it on a piss break

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Such a complete mess of a movie. There must have been a dozen writers on it. The joke about dogs coming from wolves definitely did not come from the same brain that thought up the wiener factory dream sequence (so stupid and unnecessary). And suddenly the two dogs are driving a bus? WTH? They can talk, sure, but if they can drive, the whole first 90% of the movie makes no sense. Someone thought it'd be ironic/cute to have a blue-eyed bunny talk in ebonics, but it didn't work. Just... kind of offensive and I wish we were beyond this, but we're not. Duke's old owner dying, Duke flipping out on the family, WHY? The bad guys and good guys joining forces -- what? Why? So contrived and inventing scenes and side-stories that only confuse the plot, which should be simple, with lots of character interaction. instead, the story was utterly complicated -- I dare any person, child or adult, to retell this movie the next day -- and there are too many characters, so we invest in none of them, and...where'd the voiceover at the beginning go? Is it Max's movie or not? Very poorly done. Insulting.… Expand

What a total waste of Time and Money ... Bad Screenplay, terrible animations (sophomoric) ... I feel sorry for the actors who go sucked into this project. NOT Worthy ! Not going to be a reasonable rental either.

So disappointed in this movie. The beginning was okay, but the plot quickly takes a dark and almost violent turn with a "gang" of underground pets who talk about killing their owners (like it's a good, "cool" thing), initiation via a snakeSo disappointed in this movie. Beginning. VIOLENCE. Ending. Seemed to have to many storylines. Not for smaller or sensitive kids. I was disappointed and wanted to leave mid-movie. Glad we went to the $5 showing cause it wasnt worth full price.

The only merit this film has is not being either a reboot or a sequel.

The best parts of this movie were all in the trailer, just watch that and save your time. My 10 year old was bored and my 8 year old was not very interested. It is a shame, good start and then very boring.

Movie has plenty of plot holes, unfunny jokes, generic and confusing

may just be me and I'm an idiot and it's always been like this). Can't
wait for Sing which looks even worse trying to sell tickets with pop
songs years old. I know many people will give Kids films a pass because
they are kids films such as this one but that's quite silly, we'd be
letting them create generic content and make cash off it because it's
targeted towards a demographic who would enjoy most if not any movie
with talking cats and dogs. At least they tried.… Expand

Chris Renaud and Yarrow Cheney, the directors, are not the supervisor to have. But then I wouldn't just blame them. In fact, I wouldn't blame them at all. The writing is bizarrely dull. It almost looks like they went with the "first draft". In fact at a certain point, the character says, "Why is this mouse still on my paw?" while being annoyed by the mouse in her paw. And just as annoying and repetitive that sentence was, the film feels irrelevant plenty of times. And let me draw you attention to editing as well. For instance, take the confrontational scene of Duke (Eric Stonestreet) when it visits its previous owner's house.

The entire sequence is a big fumble, neither ready to land on any decision nor confident about what it has to say or act like. Addition to that, the editing is eerily uncomfortable to go through, none of the emotional scene tie up in one thread. As far as the content is concerned, it is exactly like Toy Story, a world within a world that feeds the same purpose and emotion concerning its equation with the human.

But it doesn't have big stars or funny material or three dimensional characters nor is emotionally complex nor nail-biting antics, so you have that to look forward to. The vocal cast is actually hilarious from Louis CK to Kevin Hart. And it would have been a lot better if they weren't in lease and were told to do or say what or how they feel like, at least the laughs would come in easy. The Secret Life Of Pets is no secret that it is a bad film- I am just going to say it- and it doesn't have any life in it, pets, yes, there are tons to drool over, the animation is all adorable and cuddly.… Expand
